"Oil is still cheaper than Coca-Cola: Eni CEO"
http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=businessNews&storyid=2006-10-07T151400Z_01_L07728340_RTRUKOC_0_US-ENERGY-ENI-CEO.xml&src=rss&rpc=23
Yep - even though gas around here is "down" to under $2 a gallon, I still don't like paying that much.
But, according to this article, at $60 a barrel (for crude), it costs HALF of Coca-Cola!
Hey, I love Coke, but really how hard is it to make? Some sugar, some carbonated water, stick it in a bottle, ship it to 7-Eleven.
Oil, on the other hand, takes hundreds of millions of dollars just to explore to FIND the oil, then hundreds of millions of dollars in equipment to get it out of the ground. And that's before any sort of transportation, processing, etc.
What can you do with Coke? Well, you can quench your thirst.
What can you do with oil? Fuel my car, heat my house, etc.
No contest, oil is much more important to daily life than Coke.
Makes you think.
Remember a few months ago when many were ripping the oil companies apart for "record profits?" Where's the outrage when Coke or Pepsi makes a profit?
Next time I'm filling up my tank, I think I'll take a pause before cursing under my breath how expensive it is.
