An inexpensive character dinner in WDW.

I know that this is not for everyone but it was great for us:

Instead of eating from a buffet/family style (especially since DS4 and I are very small eaters) we decided to order from the menu at Gullivers (at the Swan). Total for 4 people (2 adults, 2 kids) was under $60 US for dinner including tax and tip. And this was with each of us ordering our own meal. We could have easily had the kids share the meals with us to save more but let them each order a meal (which my husband ended up eating most of).

This restaurant offers 2 characters each night (Goofy and Pluto, or Timon and Rafiki). I think it is the same CM who comes out first as Pluto (DS4's favourite) and then as Goofy.

I understand that this is not for everyone but since we were truly on a budget holiday it was the only way we could justify a character dining experience without blowing the budget.

DS also brought dog bones in a Christmas stocking for a present for Pluto and it was so touching to see him give the present to Pluto.

The restaurant was quite spectacular (the theming is that you are in a bird cage) and we loved it.

That's a great idea!

Another good alternative is to eat dinner at the Trail's End Buffet at FW ($16.99 adults/$7.99 kids), then go to the campfire program/singalong afterwards. Chip & Dale are there, wandering around meeting everyone, and the kids can roast marshmallows around a campfire while joining in a singalong! And, best of all, the campfire program is free! (except for the marshmallows).
