an Independence Air update

I agree with you Carol, I'm often paying half of what I did 20 years ago to fly from ALB to MCO.
But with current fares so low, I hardly think we need any more low fare competition out of ALB like a PP mentioned! All the major airlines fly from ALB.
Now SWF - that's a different story! JMHO.

The prices in and out of SWF are absurd lately. I fly out of there ALOT and usually get the least expensive flights on NWA but they are still alot higher than flights into the city on Delta or other carriers. SWA doesn't fly anywhere near my home airport (CHS) so my choices are pretty limited.

As far as FlyI goes, their business plan seemed to have alot of "wishful thinking" involved. I am sorry to see them go but am not surprised at all. I am just hoping that Delta holds on for awhile since I just hit Gold with them.

We had return tickets on Braniff Airlines back when they filed for bankruptcy (we were at Disneyland on vacation and lived in Orlando). Eastern flew us back standby on the same day of our Braniff tickets with no fees.

I belive it. Most of the flights I have been on in the past few months have been FULL. Orlando flights are normally full and I expect that we have lots of folks with Independence tickets for those upcoming BIG weeks like President's Day. If there aren't seats, standby does you no good. I figure this priority is right there with the Non Revs... LOW!

Im with you Carol!! I've been on some NWA flights from Detroit and Flint, and they have been solid full flights and some have been overbooked. Take this for example. I was on a Detroit to Flint flight (take off to touch down 18 minutes) and the flight was OVERBOOKED!! The last time I flew this flight, there was about 10 passengers and 4 crew members! I talked to a Spirit ticket agent, and she said on average Spirit overbooks all flights to Florida by 45 people! After studying Flyi's route map, I can easily see why they went under. They are flying into some of the most competitve markets in the country (i.e. Logan, Dulles, Orlando) and are going up against some of the industries leaders (Southwest, Song, JetBlue) in low cost flights. Maybe Flyi should have started off a little smaller
