An INCREDIBLY stupid, meaningless tragedy..........

Friday night, one of my co-workers (we are all firefighters) was giving a birthday party for her fiance' (who is a deputy sheriff). I was working and could not attend.

There was fun, laughs, food ................. and alcohol.

During the course of the evening, my co-workers fiance' decided to show off a couple of pistols he has. Another person present suggested he put them away, but he said it was ok, they were not loaded.

He then pulled the trigger of the first pistol......... click, click. He than pulled the trigger of the second pistol.

Tragically, the pistol was pointing at his face, and in an instant he fatally shot himself in front of several witnesses. Resuscitation was attempted, Fire/rescue was called, but it was no use. His injury was too severe.

Did I mention my co-worker had just picked out her wedding dress?

Not only is he dead, but several other lives are in shambles right now. His fiance', my other co-workers that tried to save him, 2 sets of families, the wife of another of my friends that attended literally got his brain matter sprayed on her (and she is a basket case still, 4 days later).

It's just so ******* stupid & tragic that I can't understand this. A cop plays with a loaded gun???!!!!

So now we all get to go to a funeral thursday that should NOT be happening.

Why..................... ?

I just don't get it. I'm normally a pretty grounded guy, but this is just........... #*/($^@#/*($ !!!!!!! I'm angry at the guy and I feel so badly for those involved.

??????????

I guess there is no point to this post. Just venting.....................

I cannot express how senseless and stupid that was. How horrible for his fiance and his family.

God bless them.

Holy crap! That's awful! :sad2:

Drinking too much alcohol can cause people to do stupid things.

A cop of all people.

There is a great point to your post.

Don't play with guns.

I'm sorry for everyone involved. It is indeed a senseless tragedy. :sad2:

This is so sad for everyone involved.

I had my 15 year old DD read the article and after she finished, I asked her if she knew the first rule of handling firearms. Without hesitation she replied, "Treat all guns as if they are loaded." That was a lesson my Dad taught me when I was young, so I passed it on to my kids even though they are rarely around weapons of any type.

If only more people would remember this. . .

I heard this on the news and thought the same thing - what cop would show off his gun - they should be well trained in gun safety and know how to handle the guns they carry. How awful!

Oh how awful....and yet another reason why I HATE guns.....

Stupid and senseless but at least he didn't kill somone else with his stupidity.

How very sad. :sad1:

When will people learn that parties and guns do not mix??? :confused3

So very tragic and yes, senseless. I can see why you'd need to vent! My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of those involved.

I am so sorry, it is very tragic.
