an idea - 2 days on Castaway Cay

This is just an idea that we included in our cruise comments:

We noticed during the 4th day at sea that the ship pretty much just drifts off the coast of West Palm all day.

I know this is a day to enjoy the ship, and I expect DCL makes more money with a "captive audience", but I wondered how many cruisers might prefer:

The Wonder to stay overnight at CC and that there be a second beach day on the 4th day of the cruise.

There could certainly be an island dance party on the deck of the ship, or even perhaps limited night activities on the island such as a bonfire and dance party. It might take Disney adding some more facilities, but I just wanted to mention this idea for discussion.

They could even arrange a controlled camping night for the kids.

I think that is a great idea!!! I thought somebody mentioned on these boards one time that there is a serious bug problem on cc at night and that is why the ship never stays docked there at night but I could be wrong. Anyone know if this is true?

Yes.........the bug problem is why DCL hasn't had the ship stay overnight or put a resourt on the island. If you go a google search for abacos islands.....CC used to be called Gordo Cay. It explains the history of the islands and the bug problem.

I would have loved a second day on CC on our 4 night. But i could do without bugs also. We left so early, why not give us a later leave time. Especially in summer when it stays light till 8pm. It was so nice there!!!!

The reason the ships do not stay later at CC is because they need the ship back in port early the next morning so they can do the 4hr passenger turn around (and the extra time they have to off load the luggage and garbage and load up all the goodies for the next cruise). That takes care of the 3 and 7 night cruises, and that leaves the 4 night cruise.

It is a good question why they have all aboard at 4 or 4:30 on the 4 night cruise. Anyone know why?

I was told they want to take no chances of "bugs" entering the ship thru veranadhs etc. We became good "friends" with one of the cast members who has stayed on the island. He said it gets really bad just pre dusk......

What I would love is if they set it up so you went to castaway cay your first day, at sea the second day, and back to castaway cay your third day. That, to me, would be the perfect cruise!

well not meaning to brag...ok, I am bragging...:)
In 2 days we leave for our Western 7 day that goes to CC on Sunday, sea day, Grand Caymen, Cozumel, sea day and then...drum roll please...Castaway Cay on Friday again!! Can you tell I am excited or what?:)

I do agree the four day should include two days at CC. They could drift off the coast somewhere and then put into port in the morning after all the bugs go whereever they go during the day. LOL

No Key West on this one? Not that I wouldn't give up Key West for CC, I would in a heart beat. Lucky you.

Nope! They are having some sort of boat racing or something in KW. We went there last year and that was enough for me...I'd much rather go to CC twice!:)

How do the CMs who live in CC counteract the bug dilemna?

Yes, I am on the magical 11/22 cruise with 2 CC days, that is why we booked it. 8 of us total. We leave tomorrow to go to WDW and then on to Cc, GC, Coz, and CC again! I had no desire to go to Key West(not that I have ever been there) but I loved the Western stops so now i get both!

Is that the only week they do 2 CC days? We are getting ready to book another cruise and I would like to know!!!!!!!

Thanks!

what is so special about Castaway Cay? I was on a cruise many moons ago and dont think I was to CC. What is there to do there...? Everyone is always raving about it! :)
As I understand it, DCL is docked there from around 7 am til 5 pm..? is this correct?

Duh!

I know some mystery cruises that get redirected because of weather may go there twice and I know that there was a cruise earlier this year that I think was planned to go there twice, Feb I think. But I think it is mainly when another port is closed so very rare. The port at Key West isn't closed but a couple of days so we just happen to hit it on the right day/week.

The DVC Member Cruise stopped there for 2 days. It was a Sunday sailing. Monday at Castaway Cay, Tuesday at Nassau, Wednesday at Castaway Cay and then back home on Thursday. It was great. We've done Nassau 3 times already that's why my dream cruise would replace Nassau with a sea day.
