This story just broke on the radio. They say an American was killed. Does anyone know of or have more details?

I haven't heard yet.

But it makes sense because there are a lot of Muslims in the Philippines.

Thanks for the link.

It only confirmed my suspicions....:(

Theres a lot of everyone in the Phillipines... not just Muslims.

This is so weird for me. I have two people that I'm very close to, in the Philippines right now. I'm constantly worrying about them because it's so unstable. I'll have to keep following this, thanks! :(

Mostly Catholics and Muslims. But since we were talking about a terrorist act, I just mentioned the Muslims.

Remember Timothy McVeigh was an American...

The quick jump the gun, Muslims must be terrorists narrow thinking drives me nuts...

Muslims for the most part are peace loving people. There is a small percentage, but to go catergorize the whole group is wrong.

There are a few unbalanced Americans as well, Timothy McVeigh, and his accomplise who were cabable of having a terrorists attack as well.

To characterize others by beliefs are wrong...

Well its an early report on a story, a little early to draw conclusions on who is responsible as they do not know yet themselves. I'll say a prayer for the serviceman and his family that was lost in this bombing :( I do agree with Cindy as it is wrong to characterize an entire religion. There are radical factions in several religions and Nations.

Oh please...do we have to turn this into a debate? It seems disrespectful!

I know the most wonderful people from the Philippines. Yes, they do also have terrorist cells there too. I think thats all Steve meant!

minniepumpernickel, Its not a debate, nor will it turn into one. I believe it is disrespectful too. Thus my reasoning of trying to steer the tread into the opposite direction of where it started to head.

I didn't mean to turn it into a debate. But remember, we are at war with Muslim Extremism (which is not a small minority of Islam but I would venture to say a majority of those who are religious, but that's another issue).

If a serviceman was killed in the Philippines in WWII and I posted "well there are Japenese soldiers there", would that have made anybody upset?

I was not meaning to start a debate, but to correct broad based assumptions.

My father is a service member, that could have been him. I feel awful for the family and meant no disrespect.

Assumptions about religion, race, etc are wrong. Ineeded to correct the assumptions...they quick jump the gun is awful.. and it is a terrible reflection of misconceptions.

Its sad, but you realize 8 or 9 Fillipinos died as well.. do they deserve less attention, since they weren't american. People died, it was a shame, it doesn't matter who did it. It wasn't necessary no matter who or what nationality/religion the person who set the explosion off. It was a tragedy, no matter how you look at it.

Sad state of affairs this entire world is in. There are terrorists all over the world, so this should not suprise anyone.

I just want everyone on this thread to know that I like them, and respect their opinion very much! Sometimes I just get frustrated with some of the topics that I feel need compassion...or affect me personally, etc!

Very sorry about all of the deaths! I have Filipino relatives too!:D
