What would be a good estimate for replacing one?

For just the unit or for labor to have it installed as well?

Sears has some good prices usually. Roughly between $200-250. Installation? I can get someone here for about $100. (Here being Orlando).

I just had a handy man in town replace one for us - I know it is not a chain drive so it must be a screw or belt drive. He left a note indicating it will be about $450 total for the opener and labor!

I think Jodi is looking some comparatives to see how that $450 seems to others.

Jodi, I am looking at a new one now. The top of the line Genie (I have had 2 over the past 32 years, so will again go with the brand) is $232 plus tax at Home Depot, $99 more to install it. So less than $350 for that model.

Thank you, again, Dan, for sticking up for me!

$450 seems high.

I know years ago, my hubby installed it himself. So our labor cost was ZERO!

My dh bought a Genie at Home Depot and installed it himself. He's a newspaper editor, not a handyman!

Our neighbors got one last week and used a professional. Somehow that surprised me since he is an electrical engineer!

I found the door opener at Home Depot today - it cost $150. I was ripped off, I believe!

We just put in three top of the line openers from Sears that are EXTREMEMLY quiet, and I think the openers were about $135 each. They were belt drive. DH installed them himself, but he is VERY handy, so would not recommend that for the average Joe. The installation takes about 6 hours, so figure out an hourly price and see if the cost makes sense to you.

I priced one at Home Depot a couple of weeks ago, it was $298.00 for the screw drive Genie 1/2 HP, installed. I was looking because I am buying a brand new TH and the option of an opener was priced at 575.00, which I thought was too high.

I will get either a Sears or Genie, we have had real good luch with Sears in the past. DH will NOT be installing it, he is the best flooring installer, but anything above ankle height, look out!

Diane, wanna send your DH out in June?

without the cost of an actual opener Sears will install (If you boght from them) the 1st at $90 and a second at $70
