an embarrassing question

This will be our first trip to USO and IOA. I remember reading somewhere that the rides there are are not as "friendly" to overweight people as they are at WDW. I am dieting like crazy but still at this point am 5'8" and weigh in at about 240. I am very concerned about being embarrassed on the rides by not fitting into them. I think I read that there were seats for some of the rides where you could try and see if you fit before standing in the queue but I just kind of wanted to get an opinion from experiences USO goers before we leave.
I am a huge roller coaster fan and will be very disappointed to not be able to ride. Thanks in advance for your help

yes outside most of the rides entrances are coaster seats, also i think all of the coasters have a row with larger seats on them. I know the Hulk and Dueling Dragons does.

Dont feel embarssed!
Yes there are seats outside the ride to try out, but not every ride.
I'm pretty sure you wont have a problem riding them!
Have fun :)

The only rides where that is an issue are Hulk and Dueling Dragons. Otherwise you should fit. I'm fairly large (6'2" 290) and the 2 coasters were the only problems.

Many people have asked this question in the past, don't be embarrased!! If you do a search, I'm sure you'll find old threads with lots of info. The only other ride I have heard of people having problems on is the Mummy, but I have seen many people who are larger have no problem at all.

Hulk and DD each have some modified seats if you don't feel comfortable in a regular seat. DD has the rows with the modified seats identified before you enter the row (look for a plaque that says Modified seating). I never remember correctly, but I think they might be rows 3 & 6? Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

On Hulk, I think there are little plaques on the dividers as you enter lanes as well. Row 6 there too? The TMs are very nice and will tell you which rows have them once you get ready to pick a row on Hulk.

I have seen a few people not be able to ride The Mummy. Please make sure you try the seat outside and make sure you can click the bar down comfortably. I think the back row allows for more room (is that right? or is that just for those with long legs?). That can be a little uncomfortable if you're asked to leave the Mummy because you can't fit. The whole car is held up while the TMs try to force their weight on the lap bar to get it down, and then if they can't they have to quietly tell you that you can't ride. Both sides of the loading dock can see you leave the ride, and I've always felt terrible for the person when they have to do that.

I saw one poor woman who was pretty thin except for an exceptionally large chest who was unable to ride The Hulk. I think a lot of it depends upon where you carry your weight.

Don't be embarrassed. Just try the seats out front before you bother to wait in line. :goodvibes

The only coaster I have an issue with is Hulk...Dueling Dragons is fine. Make sure you sit in the third or sixth row in the third seat over. The seat has two seat belts and you should be fine.

the one ride that seems to cause some problem is jimmy neutron, they gave the person several attempts to adjust so the bar would come down; finally he just sat in the front in the stationary seats.

wasn't that big of a dude, just had a big beer belly...fyi, i'm no lightweight myself; haven't had any issues.;)

I watched a woman go through some embarrassment on the Jimmy Nuetron ride because the lap bar couldn't come down and there is no seat to try out outside. I was only one click away from not making it on the Mummy. My kids tore me up about that.

Don't be embarrassed. My husband isn't overweight but he is a "big" guy. I'm glad you asked this question. I didn't even think about it. Thanks~

Reiteration:
Rows 3 & 6 on Hulk & Dueling Dragons have larger seats.
Rows 3 & 4 on Mummy are slightly higher/have more legroom.
Doctor Doom does not have any different seats.

All of the above have test seats near the attraction entrance. For the other rides, you should have no worries.

Thanks for the welcome as well as the info :) . I am hoping to have lost more weight by then and am pretty toned as it is not too big a belly, the behind is another issue :scared1: ,but shouldn't keep the stuff from fastening. I am really looking forward to our trip and having surfed the board and read Kelly's book I am prepared to have a fantastic time!

I'm 6'3" and about 220 and had a heck of a time getting out of the very front seat on Dudley Do-Right because of the new lap bar. Which sucks cause I love sitting in the front but the lap bar made it too uncomfortable for me to ride up there again.

I wouldn't worry too much about it cause I am 6ft and I weight about 285 and the only coaster I had trouble with was the hulk and they got the harness down but it was tight but still was able to ride though and found I had no trouble with the mummy fit in just fine and just like other posters said when you see the test seat just try it out and don't be embarresed cause your there on vacation to have fun not to worry about what others think.
Have a great time:thumbsup2

Well said, Lawrence! Don't be embarrassed Vanessa, just remember you are on vacation and you are there for you and your family to have a good time. If any of your family says anything, just punch them and go on and don't mind what anyone else thinks!

My DS is a larger guy. He uses the double harnesses on the Hulk and DD. Once he had problems on the Mummy, but he got it fastened. I did see a teenager removed from the Mummy because he didn't fit, and I felt so bad for him.

If you carry your weight "behind" I don't think you'll have a problem. I think the weight in front is what makes the harnesses tight.
