Have you ever felt bad about the amount of bids an item you have up for auction is getting?? I have something listed and I was very honest in the description, saying this item is in used condition. Not "good used", not "excellent used", but "used". I listed the item low, but it is now up to $25! It is clothing, so nothing collectible and not something of which I'm unaware of the value. I don't feel like I'm scamming the buyer, but I'd never pay that kind of money for this item which is "used"!

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about the $$. But I really don't think my item is worth that!

I have had that feeling. I had a pair of childrens train pajamas that I purchased from Kmart. There was a bidding war on them and they sold for almost $15. The buyer could have gone to Kmart and got 3 pairs. and then there are items I thought would sell well and ended with no bids.

Go figure....

I have felt bad. I usually enclose something else in the package, if it really gets bad. I have something I sell for $18.00. I have a buy it now on them for $20. They sometimes go up to $35 or $40. I have the ability to enclose matching items, so I do. Funny part is, no one ever says anything to me..guess they think it's part of the win LOL.

Nope-- I am very honest in my auctions. If people want to bid that high then really it's there fault for going way beyond what it's worth. I sell 97% clothing. There have been many times that I have bought something at the start of the season wore it a few times and decided I don't like it. List it on ebay-- then the bidding goes pretty well. I have actually gone to the mall that same week and seen the same exact used item I'm selling on clearance for less than it sold in my auction. It is crazy.

I just had a lot of 9 shirts -- all used but in good condition. They went for just a hair under $100. These were mostly Fashion Bug-- so nothing real special. I was really hoping the auction would hit $30-35. Guess I got that huh.....

I've also enclosed extra items, and I've even shipped things for free because I felt like I was being overpaid. Stupid, I know. I don't think anyone ever even thanked me. :confused3

I've received extra little items before as a buyer and am always thrilled, even if it's something the seller probably got free such as a bumper sticker. I think that would be a good solution. The buyer obviously wants the item or they wouldn't bid so much. I wouldn't feel badly about the price.

I sometimes feel bad about it, but most of the time the price goes "too high" because of a bidding war between two buyers. It's hard for me to feel bad for buyers who will pay any amount just to win. :cool1:

Once we had a small free giveaway litho (8.5" x 5.5") on card stock that we put up. We described it as a free item and the circumstances when it was obtainable, although it was a 25th Anniversary item no longer available. We accurately described it, and the size, and put the word "signed" in quotes as it was not an actual signature. The item went for $67.50, which shocked us. If the purchaser would have complained we were prepared to refund about $50.00 as we thought it went for too high a price. However, not only did we get positive feedback, but the buy said she loved it and it fit properly in her collection.

Good timing
Very recently I had one of those emails asking me to end a Haunted Mansion watch auction early. Offered Buy it now instead and the bidder jumped at a price that to me was 5 times its max value on ebay which is already inflated. Now as a whole HM collectors are the most price is no object group I have ever come across. That is not the word I wanted to use but you never know who reads this.
Did I feel bad not really but since most of the watches I sell have sat for years I did put in a new battery to make sure it runs. 3 days and a positive feedback later I had payed for half of my Dec WDW 8 day trip.
Never have done clothing yet but it is coming soon. I collect/wear Aloha shirts which is now well over 150 . The ones I will auction will all be very large mens sizes like 4x and 5x that seem to be scarce on ebay.

That happened to me twice.

Once I bought a box set of Alias DVD's from Target, just so I could watch them, not own them. When I was done I sold them on Ebay.

Someone paid MORE for the set on ebay than what I had bought them for at Target the week before. And they had to pay shipping on top of that.

I guess some people like the convienence of shopping from home? I don't know what to think about that auction.

Another time I sold a Coach bag that I literally wore EVERYDAY for over three years. I said that in my auction and started the bidding at like 99cents. I got over $50 for the bag and I felt a little guilty about it, but the buyer didn't seem to mind.

I have won a handful of items on Ebay and ALWAYS I get something extra. I always thank the person who sent it to me! How rude not to.

I too have sold clothing that went higher than purchased new price. Perhaps some of these people live so rurally getting to a mall/Gap/Old Navy store is just not possible?

I'm getting ready to list my first items on E-bay (all clothing - Ann Taylor, Tommy jeans...) and all of your e-mails are very encouraging. I have seen a lot of items that get no bids and was beginning to be doubtful about E-bay's benefits, yet I've heard so many success stories. We'll see what happens! :flower:

Just a word to the wise... I don't think putting the word in quotes is enough indication that the signature is not a real signature. Many people use quotes to draw attention to something. Incorrectly, I might addl. ;) Drives me crazy. To you and I, seeing something labelled as "new" might mean "not really new," but to others, it means *NEW*!

I think some people are ebay Junkies. And others may not be able to find the certian item you have listed and they may really really want it. As a buyer, I have bought things that I could have gotten cheaper new, but the problem is that I couldn't find the item new. I have to wear stretch size 20 jeans. Because 20 is too tight and 22 is too big. Go figure!! So I bought them on ebay until I realized Old Navy had the perfect jeans for me. It is hard to find cool plus size clothes, and at times I will pay the extra dollar just to have something fit. It evens itself out. I got a sweater jacket on ebay once for a penny. You win some you loose some!! Don't feel bad if you are not misleading it is their problemo.

I found this purse at a garage sale that I had seen not too long ago on QVC.
The lady didn't like the purse, but she told me she was too lazy to send it back. Then her 30 days was up, so she was stuck with it.
So, she sold it to me for $5.

I resold the purse on ebay. I got about $12 more for that purse than what QVC still sells that purse for brand new. Their shipping was also cheaper than my actual priority shipping was.

Funny thing is another auction for that same purse was on last week. It only got 1/2 of what I got.

You just never know with ebay.

I sometimes don't understand people on ebay. I was looking up a stroller bag on ebay to try and get it cheap. It ended up selling for $49 plus shipping :confused3 and if you just typed it into google you could have found it all over the place for $24.99. I don't think that some people even check any other place than ebay sometimes.

It has happened to me twice. i bought an American Girl Dress (Samantha's Dress for my daughter) at a twins benefit sale for $5. It was new, my daughter wore it once. I put it on ebay and it went for $112.00. I flipped! I took it had it dry-cleaned, wrapped it in pretty tissue paper and didn't charge her shipping. It still frekas me out. Just yesterday I sold a pair of my daughter's pants, she wore them once and I paid $12.00 on clearance at Hot Topic, they went for $36.99! You never know what is going to sell. :cool1:

Nope! Noo ne is making them bid but themselves.

I bought 2 high chairs for $16.00 on a store. I sold one for $85 and one for $112.

If that is what people want to pay who am I to argue.

I have actually felt this way before when selling something on ebay. I thought it was just me. Sometimes I can't believe the number of bids I'll get for one item but then the higher quality/cost item doesn't sell for much. I don't get it!

I just sold a PAPERBACK for $16.00!!! Bought it for $6.99, daughter read it once, figure if I get $3.00 back, it's better than nothing. When it got up to
$7.00, checked my description to make sure I didn't mess up, then it hit $14.00, thought for sure the sale would never complete. It ended at $16.00 and seller auto paid with Paypal..go figure???? $16.00 for a paperpack? I will send Priority instead of media mail!!
