A silly one, I know, but has anyone taken a long distance train and had a shower in their sleeping quarters? If so, were towels provided?

I'm still trying to figure out how they get a shower in there, LOL!!

I've taken the Amtrack Autotrain...and had a delux cabin. I totally cracked up when I saw the SIZE of that shower! :p I'm sorry, but for me...personally, there was NO way I was going to attempt that on a moving train  As for towels, yes, there were plenty, and always plenty more for the asking....the cabin attendants were most friendly and accomodating :)

As I recall on the Auto-Train, the toilet and shower were one and the same! Unless you are claustrophobic or don't mind hitting your head against the shower/toilet wall, then yes you can shower!!:D

Thanks for the answers! We're taking the train from Baltimore to Albuquerque in March (a special treat for DH, LOL). I'm sure it will be an adventure!!

I Love the train!;) Never took a really long trip though, but it gets me to WDW!;)

We took the amtrak from Newark, NJ to Florida
they did provide towels and wash clothes
the shower is in the toilet which is about the size of a porta potty in case you've never been in one
so taking a show would be an adventure
we were only on 1 night so we did not shower
good luck

Thanks for the shower info.We are planning on taking the train from Springfield,Ma. to the Moab,Utah area next summer.Looooong trip,I know.I just don't think I can work up the courage to fly that far (flew to Reno once before, not thrilled to do it again).

Amtrak from Penn Station to Orlando Station SHOULD take about 20 hours (there are lots of stops in the South). However, it was my experience that there were a lot of hold ups and such. Our train ride (and this was back in Sept 2001, when the train was jam packed due to lack of plane transportation) was 29 hours. A LONG ride.

I took the train from Boston to Orlando once... just my youngest and myself.. I was afraid to fly.... My husband sent us first class.. I could not believe the size of the room, I did have a bathroom but no shower and all meals were included... Needless to say, I flew home...the train from Boston to NYC was great.. it was from NYC to Orlando that was not terrific.. although I will say that the attendants on the train were very kind and took very good care of my daughter and myself..

What an idea! I hate the drive up and back. I'll have to look into the train. :teeth: Just took DS to the station this morning. The scouts have a trip today.
