Hey Guys! I have an allergy question. I am allergic to kiwi to the point if other foods are prepared in the same place as the kiwi I can have a reaction. I know kiwi isn’t a major ingredient in most dishes, so do you think I need to inform Disney Dining of this allergy? Most people laugh when I tell them I have a kiwi allergy (though it is not funny to me!!!), and say “do you think we use a lot of kiwi here?”. What do you think?

If you have a reaction to kiwi, then by all means tell everyone. You just never know and it's better to be chuckled at than rushed to the hospital, right?
I would mention your allergy to Disney Dining so it can be added to your reservation.

BTW- My sister insists that I am allergic to kiwi too. Since I've never eaten kiwi in my life, I wonder how she can tell? :rotfl:

Always inform someone that you have a food allergy. Granted you are less likely to come in contact with many foods being prepared near or with kiwi, but you never know.

Always, always tell about food allergies. That isn't something to make light of and those who may laugh have probably never seen an allergic reaction or someone going into Anaphylactic shock (depending upon the severity of the allergy.)

Cross contamination is an easy thing to have happen in a kitchen and especially in buffet areas. Even if the kitchen staff don't cross contaminate on the buffet, the patrons very well might. How often do you see people using serving utensils, etc., in multiple dishes?

Disney is great about allergies. Tell them about the allergy when you make ADR's and they will make a note of it on your ressie. Typically, the chef will then speak to you when you get to the restaurant, but if they don't, just ask.

If it happens they don't serve kiwis, then great, once you find out there are no kiwis on site, then you'll relax and have a much better experience. And, if they do, then great again, you'll be informed and be taking the care you need to avoid them. Win-win, either way and no big deal to have taken the time to make sure. :thumbsup2

Have a wonderful trip!

I would inform Disney when you make ADRs, particularly since you are very sensitive to kiwi. At Sunshine Seasons in EPCOT I had a fruit tart with kiwi, so they definitely have kiwi at Disney. Many things are prepared in central kitchens or come from outside vendors, so even if a particular restaurant doesn't serve items with kiwi, there may be some contact issues. If you go to the FAQ thread on the disAbilities! board, there's an email address for Disney Special Diets. When you contact them, they'll email you a form to fill out with your ADRs, allergies, members of your party, etc. We did this for our May trip and it made dining out a stress-free pleasure.

Yes put it on your ADR's. DH also has a food allergy. Last year, at each TS meal the chef came to our table (even buffets) to make sure we were taken care of. IMO Disney did all they could to accommodate us with very little hassle.

Thanks Guys! When I call on SaturdayI will make sure I let them know about my Allergy. I thought I would feel silly making a big deal out of it but you're right. Better safe then sorry! I really don't want to spend any part of my Disney Vaca in the ER!
