my mom, my dad, my brother (15) and i (18) arived at the port at 10:30. since we were there so early, there were barely any other ppl checking in. we didnt have to wait at all, checked in, and went to sit down. at this point a spotted a woman with the name "barb" on her shirt....
i pointed her out to my mom and said "mommy! mommy! those are the ppl that have been on 20 something cruises!" my ever-so-friendly mom (disneyholicfamily) went over to say hi, and so we got to talking with barb, tony, katie (camcolt - who we also met at this point) and another family sitting near us. time zipped by, and at around 12:30 we started boarding (while apriciating how early we came, becuase of the LOOOOOOONG line that had formed in the meantime for check in).
our name was anounced as we walked aboard the ship. what can i say....im easily pleased....i started blushing
and felt very important. lol. we were takin straight to Parrot Cey. we thought it was the cutest thing. i loved the birds on the chandaleer
. since we keep kosher, ussually when we eat in the states we have to eat these TV dinner meals, which are wrapped with plastic. its imberrasing (everyone looks at us like we're freaks
) and its also not very good. so we were prepared to eat those meals whilest on the cruise. luckily, the head waiter in parrot cey that day was P.J. he spent about 20 minutes with us, telling us what on the regular menua we can eat. he knows all of the ingrediants by heart. if you have any special needs where food is concered, such as diets or allergies, he's the guy to see. also, our surver unwrapped our kosher meals for us, so we looked like normal ppl when we were eating. and as you all know, the food doesnt make the vacation, but it certanly matters. after meeting P.J. we knew that this cruise was going to be something else.
we got to our room (cat. 3). it was beautiful!!!!
after what i had read on the boards, i was expecting to be sleeping in this tiny closet. it was huge! our verandah was amazing
i was busy admiring our room when my mom says "guys, there are presents for you in here". it turned out my mom had pre-ordered gifts for all three of us. it added a very special tuch. i was nervous about the cruise (i get car sick, so i was scared i'd spend most of the vacation puking in the bathroom
), and finding things in the room that were especialy for us and made me feel more comfertable.
our luggage came right away. my brother and i went to the common ground open house, and checked out the beautiful and wonder-ful
wonder. we went back to the room to get our parents and show them around, and then it was time for the mandatory emergancy drill. you know what? it was fun! the cast member who was the head of our section was keeping us entertained and taking care of buisness at the same time. a big crowd of ppl had gathered on the other ship, and was watching us during the drill (with our "cute", "little" life jackets on....lol). our guy yelled at them through his megaphone: "our ships prettier than you ship! our ships prettier than your ship!"
obviously we all joined in...and he had us all wave at the nice ppl on the other ship
.
the farewell sail off party was in the lobby instead of on deck bcuz of lightning. it was very crowded, so we went outside, on the veranda. there were disney ppl standing on shore, wearing big mickey hand gloves and waving goodbye to the ship. as i said, im very easily pleased....i thought that added such a special disney touch to the whole thing. i mean, you cant find any other cruise line where giant mickey hands wave goodbye during your sail off!
hercules the muse-ical - amazing! amazing! amazing!!!!
its everything you expect to find in a good show; funny, witty, great staging and costumes, beautiful music and of course - amazingly talented performers. every performer on that stage is broadway quality. do not miss this show!
the walt diseny theater is beatiful and cofertable.
tritons - after a very cute game show in studio sea, it was 8:30 PM and time for our second seating dinner. ppl were really dressed up, we're talking the most expensive looking dresses i have ever seen in real life
so i felt kind of underdressed with my cool pants and t-shirt. tritons is the most elegant of the 3 restaurants. its lovely and peacful. the lighting changes ever so slightly through out dinner.
at this point i would like to regard the movement of the ship. we noticed that in some places on the ship you feel it moving and in others you dont notice it at all. for some reason, the only place we felt the ship moving was in the 3 restaurants, the most in parrot cey, the least in animators pallate. it wasnt disturbing, and it in no way ruined our dinner, we were just aware of the ship moving. no where else onboard did i feel the ship moving.
dueling pianos (or - what i did every single night! lol) - after dinner we went over to dueling pianos. i loved it! matt and larry are extremely talented, and they make their club (barrel of laughs) a fun place to be. i liked it so much i went to every one of their "shows", including the family dueling pianos (which i definately recomend for parents with younger children. the kids in there were simply glowing with excitment. if your kid enjoys a sing along - family dueling pianos is the place for you!). dueling pianos was one of my favorite things during the entire cruise.
i went over to wavebands to check out the "singles mingle" but everyone in there was a lot older than me and drinking from the bar. i felt uncomfertable to begin with, bcuz-single? me? im just a kid! whats the rush?!
lol
common grounds 411 (or - the big disapointment) - i went up to the common grounds with my brother. he was so excited!
i was really happy to see him so excited. sadly, the 411 was at the same time as the 70's party, so i missed that
it looked very cool. oh well, next cruise!
the second we entered common grounds i realized the average age was 15-16. but i decided to stay cuz hwo knows, maybe ill like it. the counselors were very nice and funny. the kids were nice and everyone was just looking to meet new ppl and have a good time. i met another girl my age and thought "hey, maybe ill make some friends after all!" wrong! she introduced me to 2 of her friends who she had come with, and they didnt make too much of an effort to make me feel comfortable to be with them. they actually made me feel very unwanted and made no attempt to befriend me or talk to me. there were, i think, also 2 guys my age (my brother later told me that the girls and guys my age were "all over each other", which wasnt the sort of social activity i had in mind...lol). i was not enjoying myself in the first activity that we did that night. i felt old and out of place, since most of those kids were my campers' age (also my brothers age). i asked my brother if its ok if i leave and when he said it was fine, i went roaming the ship by my lonesome
. i then returned to my room very upset, since i was the one who had been pushing for this vacation and was looking forward to meeting other kids my age and making new friends. no such luck.....my mom said "chani, things here arent like in israel". tell me about it.......
common grounds was great for my brother. he did make a lot of new friends, and spent most of the cruise participating in the teen activities. I think that common grounds is great, if youre the right age for it. its been said before on the boards that
18-20 year olds kind of fall between the lines. we're too old for the common ground crowd, but too young to hang out with the drinking crowd. there were other kids my age who just stayed with their parents the entire time and ive read many posts of kids my age saying the same thing. the last day of our cruise we met a woman who has a son my age. she said he too couldnt fit into the common ground crowd, and so was hanging out with his parents the whole cruise. I wish disney would have a get together for 18-20 year olds, that way we could meet each other and then we'd go to the clubs, activities and shows together. theres no need for special activities for us, just a way for us to meet each other.
