AmyT's Journal (Comments Definitely Welcome!)

Sounds like you did great last night. Fish is always low cal! We ate out tonight but we're grilling out chix for fajitas tomorrow. They're marinating in salsa as I write. If the hurricane hits and we lose electric at least our gas grill will work.

Wow, grilled fish tacos and only 10 chips at a Mexican restuarant, I am impressed! Good for you! I'd have to have my jaw wired shut to only eat 10 chips at a Mexican place.

I can’t believe it, I am still at 137. I was so frustrated and disappointed this morning, I thought for sure I’d have a loss. I was ready to throw in the towel. When I ate whatever I wanted and did minimal workouts, I weighed the same. Now I am eating healthy and working out like a fiend and I still weigh the same! I’m talking 2 months here! It’s not fair! Geez, I sound like one of my kids… Then I started thinking about how I can be so positive and encourage so many other people. I need to start taking my own advice! ::yes:: And on the way to work I did some soul searching. What is really my problem? The only thing I can think of is that the weekends are killing me. I am a social drinker and I don’t drink that often, but when I do, my body reacts by retaining water. Plus I tend to not stick to my eating/exercising plan too much on the weekends. So every weekend I tend to gain 1-2 lbs. It is gone by Wednesday, since it is mostly water, but if I can keep from gaining that 1-2 lbs over the weekend, I might have a fighting chance to lose some actual weight. I don’t know what else it could be, I’m really at a loss (or should I say NOT at a loss…). If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE share! I’m bummed, I could really use some :grouphug:

Enough with the pity party - I joined the Lighter by Halloween and Thanksgiving Challenge. They really go hand in hand. Unless I am totally blowing it on the Thanksgiving Challenge, I will be lighter by Halloween by default! Cool! I will try to get online this weekend and update my journal. I have to work out on both Sat and Sun in order to finish my August Exercise Challenge! I don’t want to miss my goal by a measly 50 minutes or so. That should motivate me to do something. If I don’t make it to the gym, I will have to at least go swimming or ride my bike or rollerblade or something… I need 50 minutes per day (except Tuesday, which I already know won’t happen) every day until (and including) Wednesday to make my goal. I’m all over it!

Jane, fajitas sound good! I've never marinated anything in salsa before, that is a great idea, I'll have to try it!

Amy, it was hard to restrict myself to 10 chips. I put them on my plate and when they were gone, they were gone. You should have seen how much iced tea I drank instead...

Girl, get rid of the scale!! I am feeling so much better since I stopped relying on what that stupid little (well, not so little) number on the scale was. How do your clothes fit? Do you feel better physically? If you stop journaling, you may start gaining weight. You don't want to do that!! Do you take a multivitamin? I have started taking the One-A-Day WeightSmart vitamins. Hey, if you have to take one everyday, you may as well take one that will increase your metabolism! It has helped with my energy level and I am starting to feel a difference. We are all in this with you. Boy, when you do start to lose, we are going to have a PARTY!!! :jumping1: Don't give in and don't give up.

Karyn, you are right, I need to have a scale bashing party. I have a sledge hammer in the garage. Maybe I get on it so much that it is stuck on 137...

I do take a multi-vitamin (I have for years) and I don't plan on giving up. My clothes fit better than they did 2 months ago, but the same as they have for the last few weeks. I think if I get the weekends back under control that will help (at least I hope so!). I am usually extremely impatient and I think this morning I just snapped. I am starting to feel better about things, thanks so much! And you are definitely invited to my party when that scale starts moving (if it is still in one piece, that is!)

Good luck this weekend with your plan Amy!! Maybe you could slice some lemons or limes to put in your glass of ice water to spruce it up a little. Not an alcoholic drink I know-but it might help.

You're right about giving encouragement to everyone and you deserve some of your own advice!! :flower:

Lets have a party next week!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Amy,

Good luck this weekend wit your plan. I am sure that it will work for you.

Hope you are having a great weekend. Keep up the good work

Good luck with your weekend Amy. They are so tough to get through but it can be done!

I actually made it online this weekend!!! Eating-wise I am doing VERY good so far! I didn't overeat yesterday and so far so good today. I didn't get a chance to work out yesterday, but I did my Pilates Sculpt DVD this morning (that is such a tough workout!)

S-Celery-n-Hummus
L-Grilled Ham-n-Cheese; Carrots; Pear; DC
S-Pineapple; Grande NF Chai Iced Latte :lovestruc
D-Meatloaf; Sherbet Bar (70 cal); 3 Creme Savers (60 cal)
WORKOUT-None (but I did clean ALL day!)

For Sun:
B-Egg Beaters; Pineapple; Toast-n-Butter
S-None!
L-Grilled Chicken-n-Cheese; 1 cup Lipton Noodle Soup; DC
S-4 Dried Papaya Spears; Pita Chips-n-Hummus (it's finally gone!); 1/2 cup Mango Lime Fiesta juice
D-Salmon; 2 Doritoes; 2 Baked Fries; Cauliflower; Mini Ice Cream Sand (100 cal); 1/4 cup Cocoa Puffs (40 cal)

WORKOUT-Pilates Sculpt (55 min)

You are really eating well. Good job on a GREAT WEEKEND!! :cool1:

This weekend went really well! I worked out Sun and I ate pretty much as I would have during the week. I will post my official end-of-Aug weight on Wednesday. Will I actually have a loss? We’ll have to wait and see… Since I didn’t get my workout in on Sat, I need to work out today, tomorrow and Wed. Today and Wed are no problem, I will be going to the gym right after work. Tuesday will be tough since I have to squeeze in Pilates between work and taking DD to tap. Maybe I can do ½ the Pilates Sculpt DVD before I take her and the other ½ after dinner. That just might work!

I made a vegetable soup in the crockpot this weekend to bring that to work for lunches this week. I’m getting burned out on salads but I want to continue to get several servings of veggies in at lunch time. Being an engineer, it is VERY hard for me to just throw things into a pot and cook it (I need precise measurements - none of this little-bit-of this, dash-of-that nonsense!). But I did it! I used stewed tomatoes (Italian recipe), carrots, celery, peas, zucchini and corn in a low sodium chicken broth. It tastes pretty good and it was SO easy to make (the only time consuming part was cutting up all the veggies). It’ll be a nice change for lunches this week!

B-Yogurt; ½ c. LF Granola; Banana
L- Veggie Soup; 10 Mini Rice Cakes; DC
S#1-Grapes
S#2-Strawberries; LF String Cheese; 3 Dried Papaya Spears
D-Pork Chop; Green Beans; Rice-A-Roni; Sherbet Bar (60 cal); 1/2 cup Granola
WORKOUT-Elliptical (40 min); Walking (10 min)

Wow, that soup sounds great!! We all have colds at my house, so soup for dinner might be pretty good. It seems that it tastes better the longer it sits!! Thanks for a great idea! :scratchin

Just got my soup on to cook. I took the easy way out...I used canned green beans, potatoes and corn with tomato sauce and beef broth. I don't like chunks of tomato in my soup!! What a great idea...thanks so much for sharing. It's a great way to get veggies in and it's a really low-point dinner. I can enjoy my lunch more today!! :flower:

You may be right about the alcohol. The last time I lost weight I did not drink any alcohol for 4 months and the weight flew off. I lost about 8-10lbs per month. This time its taking me a lot longer & thats the only difference I can think of. Weekends are really tough on me as you can tell by my journal! I keep thinking that if I would get serious for 2 months with no cheating at all I'd be in the mid140s. HOwever, life keeps getting in the way. Glad your weekend went so well!

I managed to stay pretty much on track last night! I did eat 3 (instead of 2) dried papaya spears and about 1/2 cup of granola, but other than that, I did great.

I HAVE to work out tonight! I am only 70 minutes away from my goal. I will make it, I will, I will! I am going to do my Pilates DVD that is broken up into 4-10 minute routines. That way I can do 2 before DD’s tap and 2 after. No excuses! I am not signing up for the 5 for Sept Challenge. It’s too depressing - I haven’t lost anything in 2 months and I am sick of showing 0/5! I am already doing the Thanksgiving Challenge, I’ll just post my progress (there WILL be progress) on that thread. I hope to be at my goal weight of 125 by then. I will “officially” weigh myself tomorrow, with the shred of hope that I lost something for the Aug challenge! Today was at 137. Big surprise… I am going to try my hardest in Sept to weigh myself only once a week. I will switch my day to Wed since that is the weigh-in day for the Thanksgiving Challenge. I am going to physically put the scale in the closet so I am not tempted. I tried to do it before but failed miserably. This time I will succeed!

B-Yogurt; 1/4 c. LF Granola (new kind = more calories = less amount, bummer!); Banana
L- Veggie Soup; LF String Cheese; 6 Wheat Crackers; DC
S#1-Apple
S#2-2 Dried Papaya Spears; Celery-n-PB; 2 bites Chocolate Graham Cracker; 2 Mini Rice Cakes
D-Chicken (in crockpot – chicken breast, cream of chicken soup, chipped beef, FF sour cream); Brown Rice; Chocolate Push Up (90 cal); 2 Butterscotch (40 cal)
WORKOUT-Pilates (30 min); Walking (10 min)

Karyn-Did you :lovestruc your veggie soup? That is going to be my lunch for the rest of the week - yummy!

Jane-I know what you mean. Obviously I am choosing to enjoy life over losing weight. I need to pick one or the other or else stop complaining about the scale!

I'm not doing the 5 for Sept. either. I know that I feel better, and that's all that matters to me right now. The soup was soooo good! I just knew that I would have plenty leftover to eat this week. That is, until DH got home. I have enough left for one meal and he will probably eat that for lunch! Oh well... :flower:

Amy, your workouts are amazing this month! You've got me beat! I didn't even make 900 this month but it does motivate me to do some sort of a workout knowing that I have that challenge hanging over me. Your veggie soup sounds delicious. Whenever I make it no one else will eat it around here. I end up with a huge pot of veggie soup all to myself. Good luck with the scale - thats why I don't keep one. Do you have a friend who can "borrow" it for a month?

Well, well well, GUESS WHAT?!? I still haven’t lost a single pound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes 2 months in a row. I kicked that stupid scale into the closet and I am not going to look at it again until next Wed morning. If I don’t show a loss next week, I swear, I will lose my mind!!!!! At least I will make my exercise goal (I’m hitting the gym after work today) - that is 2 months in a row. I am going to have to totally revamp what I am eating. Maybe I’ll start counting calories, I am probably eating way more than I think. I have to figure out what the problem is!

Maybe I should give up my daily Diet Coke? I could drink a Minute Maid Light drink instead. I’ll have to think about that one. I’m at the point where I have to be creative. There has to be something that is hindering my weight loss efforts. It must be in my diet because I’m pretty sure I exercise enough. I just wish I knew what it was so I could fix it!!!!! I will start tracking calories today on FitDay.

B-Yogurt; 1/4 c. LF Granola; Banana

WORKOUT-Elliptical (40 min); Walking (10 min)

I am hosting the September Exercise Challenge. Hope to see you guys there! At least that is one thing I can succeed in... :goodvibes

I honestly don't see where one Diet Coke a day would make a difference. The Minute Maid Light would have as many calories, right? Maybe you do need to tweak a little and see what works. You eat such healthy food already. What are your portions like? Do you measure out your servings? Hey, we will lick this yet! Just keep doing what you are doing. We are in this with you!! :grouphug:

I just put today's meals into FitDay and it said I am at 1575 calories!!! So THAT might be the problem! I think that is fine for maintaining, but I probably need to be around 1200-1300 to lose. I don't know how accurate it is for things like veggie soup (there was a selection for homemade veggie soup, so I put that in there even though my ingredients differed a little) and other dishes like that, but I think I am onto something here... I will put in the next couple days of planned meals and see where I can cut some things out! I am also going to start measuring portions and weighing things again. I probably eat too much for one serving (especially meat). I'm excited, I think September is going to be my month!!! :goodvibes

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Well, after checking FitDay again, I realized that my calories were so high because I had celery and peanut butter, which is a 200 calorie snack! Take that away and I am at 1375, which is what I would be on an average day. I think that is OK, I probably could get a little lower (that 1375 includes a 70 calorie glass of wine). I am just going to have to start measuring stuff again, I think that is where I have been too lax... :rolleyes1
