Amy's New Start : Comments Welcome!

I HATE tornadoes!!! But then again, I grew up in Iowa & lived in Kansas for a good while! Glad you are all ok.

I can't believe you are in WDW right now!! Hopefully having a WONDERFUL TIME!!!!!

Hi Amy,

I hope you're having a wonderful time in WDW now! Did you have a drink for me yet? Inquiring minds want to know. ;) :rolleyes1

Hope you're having a blast in the world! Tell Mickey we said hi!

oohhh i hope your having a fantastic time Amy, have a mai tai for me ;)
we go to WDW in August - hot, humid - love it :)
hope the hail & tornados are gone for when you get home!

Hi Amy

Sounds like you had a very busy week before vacation. I just got caught up with you. Glad you were able to get your sis to think on stuff for herself. Can't wait to hear about your DL trip with your nephew. He sounds like someone who will really appreciate it. Sounds like you are very relieved about your Step-Dad, that's a very good thing. Schools over, everyone passed and you are off to a great start for the summer. Minus the tornadoes.
BE CAREFUL!!!!

Hope you are having a great time in the World. You were getting there just as I was leaving. It wasn't too hot for us. Course we live in Southern MS and are used to it. But still it was cooler in Florida than in MS. Can't wait to hear all about it when you get back.

Thank you so much ladies for keeping me on page one! I am home, I never did log into disboards. Dh worked quite a bit but that meant that he was using the computer and I couldn't! We had a great time although we had some bumps with dh's family. Long story short, it was hot, one got sick, the other hurt her knee and I think that will be our last trip with them. Of course they'll still come here and we'll try to make it out there in the next couple of years or so, but as far as going on vacation together, I just think not. We travel very differently and going to WDW in the middle of a huge heat wave was hard on them and really kept them from having a good time. I wanted it to be a perfect family trip but it just didn't work out that way. BAsically his cousin did MK and about 1/10th of Epcot and his aunt did that plus the safari and Fiding Nemo at AK. I felt awful and somehow responsible since the trip was my idea and I invited them. Oh well, we did get to spend time together the first two days and then still had a few dinners and a movie the other days. But for them, I fear it was a total waste of money. I have to say, when they left it was good to be on our own. And the weather got better the last few days. Much better.

But we had a ball, in spite of the heat and humidity we enjoyed the parks, especially the waterparks. Dd and I did Sea World one day just the two of us which was very fun and then the four of us did Universal with our good friends on Friday which was a ball. I had never done Universal so it was nice to try something new. I did have to use the fat seat on Dueling Dragons which motivates me to get my butt back in gear with Weight Watchers! The DDP kept me eating too much the first week and the second week I managed to eat better in some ways but still not do very well. But it was vacation so I am not going to stress about it too much.

We did decide to try to go back for spring break. I am going to have to work the numbers but I am hopeful. Between the heat, crowds and the familly member with us, we never did get into our usual groove and somehow left feeling like we had missed out. So therein lies a great excuse to go back in 9 months!

My plan for tonight is to get started unpacking and then tomorrow, work out and grocery shop. Ds leaves early ins the morning to go to the Western Slope with friends for four nights so I need to get his stuff packed for that. I told dd she and I could see a movie. And come what may, I plan to go to WW on Friday. My scale today has me up 12 pounds. OMG! Of course that was after I had flown and eaten a rather large burrito, chips, salsa and two huge glasses of ice tea plus about 40 oz of water. But I had to get on the scale because I am insane. I am really hoping that by Friday, my gain is more like five pounds. That I can take, 12, not so much!

I will catch up with everyone later today or tomorrow!:grouphug:

Welcome Back Amy!

I'm glad that you and your family had a great time in Florida!:goodvibes That is so cool that you got to go to Sea World!:thumbsup2 We used to have one here in Ohio and I miss it sooo much. :( I've never been to the one in Orlando though. One day. ;)

It can be difficult to vacation with others since everyone can have such varied tastes and ideas on how to do a vacation. I bet your DH's family had a good time because they got to spend time with your family.:goodvibes

And planning your next vacation?!?!?! Way to go, girl!:cheer2:

No worries on the weight...I bet several pounds will come off in the next couple of days. :thumbsup2 Just be sure and drink your water and get some moderate exercise in. Those 12 pounds will be gone in no time! You CAN do it, Amy!!:cheer2:

I hope you have a great evening. Glad you're back!

Thanks Tracy.

Wow today has flown by. I got a good start on getting organized, unpacked and am just here with dd since ds is on his first trip without mom and dad! He did call to say he arrived safe and sound and said he'd call me every day to check in. We'll see.;) I have no food in the house, so took dd to Chick Fil A for lunch where I behaved very well, got a chick sal sandwich and fruit. But did eat about 1/4th of her sandwich after she got full. Have been slamming the water, and had a slim fast for breakfast. Dinner will hopefully be a turkey burger and a salad as long as I make it to the grocery store.

I am not doing a formal trip report but I will recap a few things quickly. Loved our stay at All Star Music. It was super clean, we had great mousekeeprs which was nice since so many people seem to be having horrible experiences with that lately. Go figure. We had nine nights there. I won a music trivia concert at the pool games that Friday and let dd pick out a prize (she got a HSM game). I got all the oldies right. I smoked the young group of bikini clad twentysomethings whom I might add worked as a team against littled old me! It pays to be old and an avid listener of 1980's music!:rotfl: Old Key West was also great, it was soooo nice to be in that one bedroom after that small value room. One afternoon it poured rain and the four of us just sat out on the balcony watching the storm chatting waiting it out, and then headed over to MGM for Fantasmic. I think that was my favorite moment of the trip. Somehow we didn't get on Expedition Everest, the day we did AK, dh's aunt was so tired and we just felt like we couldn't leave her to wait (it was also raining) while we road. We barely did a thing at AK, that park is huge and I found out hilly. At least it felt that way pushing that wheelchair.

We did the DDP the first 9 nights. Can I say I am sort of not wanting to do that again unless we can ever go when its free? The food was fine, but I felt like all we did was eat. We had to take cabs several times due to the fact dh's aunt even before she threw her knee out just couldn't keep up with the walking in that heat. With heat indexes of over 100 most days, it really took its toll. And given some of the stress I was having with them, the cocktails I kept ordering at dinner took their toll on my budget. I came in more over budget than any trip we have ever done to WDW. Major bummer. Too many cabs and drinks and of course the gratuities add up big time on the DDP. Once we were off the DDP we did much better with money. We did eat one full serve off the DDP at O'Hana. Our good friends from home were at the Poly (lucky them) so we met them at Blizzard Beach then met them at O'Hana for dinner. It was their 15th wedding anniversary and what would have been my mom's 74th birthday. So that was a really nice evening. But with tax and tip it was around $200. Just insane how expensive the food at WDW is. Universal is no better. And we misssed the one and only meal I was really looking forward to: Sci Fi. That day cousin was sick, aunt was exhuasted and I knew walking back into the park was just too much for her. So I cancelled it and we did Olivia's instead which was just an easy cab ride over to OKW and much easier for her. But I have to say, I won't be doing the DDP anytime soon. I love the food at WDW but need a break from running around from ADR to ADR. I think we'll do the Quick Serve plan next trip. And do Sci Fi!

My wacko highlight of the trip was when I took my swimsuit off after Blizzard Beach one afternoon to shower. I had been in the lazy river for hours with dd, sometimes out of the tube to get a bit of exercise, and at some point a visitor from the river made its way into my suit! When I took it off, something fell out, it was a dead frog! I guess it got in there and my big knockers suffocated the poor thing! I was howling for Dan to get in the bathroom and pick it up. Of course this got back to our friends and all evening it was the talk of the trip. Dead frog in Amy's bossom. I will add this thing was about the size of a large cricket. But very icky.

I could definitely tell all the walking, aquasize and biking at the gym helped with my stamina. But I felt fat and yucky the whole time. I am so sick of looking like a fat, out of shape, middle age hag. I only have one picture with me in it the whole trip. I wouldn't let anybody take my picture. Having to get in the fat seat on Hulk and Dueling Dragons was a total humiliation. I did the test seat on Dueling Dragons knowing that I'd need the bigger seat. I accidentally tried out the regular seat and it wouldn't snap, although dh said I gave up too quick before he could really get it in there. So I just walked off humilated and had our friends take the kids. Dan stayed with me, but then a few minutes later, I realized I had gotten into the regular seat, not the modified one. So I went back over, tested out the modified one and it fit fine with plenty of room to spare. So I got to ride. But it was embarrassing. My friend Jody fit fine, she's about 25-30 pounds less than me so I know that's what I need to lose to get out of the fat seat. I swear when I want to overeat, I'll remember the humiliation of needing a special seat. If that won't kill the craving, what will?

As of today I am at 8 pounds up so at least I lost 4 pounds of water last night. I realized I can't go back to WW until the 10th due to the holiday which is fine. I just have to do this.

And we are going back to WDW in March. We have the points, we can do 8 nights in a studio and still have plenty of points left to do a two bedroom with my nephew and his girlfriend in October of 2010. I have also decided we aren't taking my sister with us that trip. The week with dh's family made me realize that WDW is not a great trip for people with mobiity issues. She'd need a wheelchair due to her MS. She also hates crowds and hates Disney. So I think its best to just let that idea go. Someday, maybe she can come on a cruise with us. That is way more her style.

I love that you have started planning your next trip to WDW!:thumbsup2

Way to go on winning the music trivia contest!:dance3:

I'm sorry you had to skip out at Sci Fi. :( You'll have to make it a must do next March!:goodvibes

Congrats on dropping 4 pounds already!:cheer2: Keep drinking the water and getting some exercise in and the rest of those 12 pounds will be gone in no time!

Have a great Tuesday!

Tracy, Sci Fi is the one and only place we had done each and every trip. We love it there!

Today was good. I went to the rec center and walked for 50 minutes and biked for 10. Then I went grocery shopping and stocked up on a ton of healthy food. And saved over $100 with coupons which was good. Then I treated dd to Baskin Robbins (it was dollar a scoop day) and had a cup with their new low fat chocolate. Very yummy. Then I came home, balanced my checkbook, realized we are really in the hole post vacation and with our unexpected roofing expenses and got stressed and drank a pepsi and had some pringles. But I did have a lowfat turkey burger and some fruit for dinner. Food was actually pretty good today even with that junk I didn't need. So getting back on track slow but sure.

Please pray for my friend's sister Lisa. She's in her late 40's, has Stage IV breast cancer that is in both lungs. They have one more chemo left to try, if it doesn't work I guess its over. Her poor mom and sister, the dad just passed away in March, they just have the three of them and its so hard to imagine how they'll cope if things don't get better soon. She was just diagnosed in February, its amazing how quickly life can change. Very scary. And on that note, this family is really my sister's connection. The sister of the cancer patient is my sister's college roomate. Leslie (my sis' friend) is one of those people who gives the shirt off her back to anyone who needs it. Now she needs love and support and my sister doens't even return calls or emails. She's so consumed with her own drama, she doesn't have time for a friend whose life is coming apart at the seams. I get so disappointed with her. And worried. This is probably just part of her depression. But still, she could at least call Leslie and answer an email when she gets it. As my mom used to say "I'd like to shake her til her teeth rattle".:sad2:

Great job yesterday, Amy!!! And saving $100 with coupons?!?!?! That is AWESOME!:thumbsup2:cheer2:

I'm so sorry to hear about Lisa. :sad1: We will keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug: Sorry to hear about your sister too...I hope she chooses to respond to her friend soon.

I hope you have a great Wednesday!

Thanks Tracy. My Safeway and Kroger are in their usual war for business and they send out these coupons to people who have their store discount cards. So I had a lot of freebies, 10% off my total order before coupons, and my usual clipped coupons. So it added up!

I had a horrid day with food today. Ate crap and too much of it. I only got about 3 hours sleep last night. I am missing ds and couldn't stop thinking about my friend's sister. I am so scared for her and the rest of the family. It gets you to thinking about how precious life is. And of course my mammogram is this month and I always get nervous because of my mom before that. I am sure it will be fine though.

Dd was also wiped out today. I offered to take her to the pool but she is still getting over the cold she got from dh's cousin and just wanted to stay home. She never even got dressed. She and Daisy pretty much slept or read (well dd read, Daisy obviously didn't ;)). I think she needed some down time.

Oh well, tomorrow is a new day. I skipped dinner because I am not hungry, if I get hungry, I 'll either eat fruit or yogurt. I have some junk in my house that is for the 4th but of course sampled some of the chips today and drank more Pepsi. Which I have now thrown out.

I am going to book my DVC stay for March tomorrow. I have been crunching the numbers and its tight but I think we'll be fine. I just want to sleep on it one more night. Then on the 17th, I plan to get our airfare. I checked tonight and its very cheap but since dh and I no longer use credit I have to wait. Ahh, sometimes I miss the days when I just whipped out the old credit card!

Thanks for reading. Tomorrow I will be back on the wagon no excuses allowed!

 Amy,

No worries about yesterday. Today is a new day and you can get back on track today. You CAN do it!!!!:cheer2:

I know that you are worried for your friend. We'll keep her in our prayers.:grouphug:

I can't wait to hear all about your plans for your March trip! Where will you be staying?

I hope today is a wonderful day for you, my friend!

Thanks Tracy. I get these emails from my friend Leslie (its her sister that is sick) and they are so inspirational and uplifting. I am telling you, these three women are amazing.

Today will be good with food, tonight we are going over to a friend's for Mexican food. Now that could be tough. Then tomorrow we have a lot of work around here to do and no plans so I can control that pretty easily. Saturday, my sister is coming down for the day and night and I am making a very healthy lunch and dinner. However, I am making an old Texas standby, buttermilk pie. Pure fat! So I am also making a my slim chocolate cheesecake (loaded with protein and for a dessert very healthy) so I have something sweet to enjoy guilt free. I am just trying to plan better so I don't get into these food situations where I have no good choices to make. So tonight should be my only tough night for the weekend and since its just one meal, I am not going to stress!

Tracy: Right now the plan is to stay at SSR in a studio. But when my 7 month window comes up, I'll switch to OKW if they have avail. I can stay 10 nights for the price of 9 at SSR and the OKW studios have two beds vs. the one bed and sofa bed of an SSR studio. We will do the QSDP and Sci Fi. So its going to be very laid back. There's a slim chance my brother and his wife will be there that same time. Which would be very cool but I am not getting my hopes up.

Today's plan is to do an exercise video here at home or maybe walk at the track at the school. Also, ds is coming home! He has called me every day, I think he misses his old mom. He even talks to his sister daily which is very cute. This is a good dry run for when he's gone a whole week to South Dakota later this month. :scared1:

Got my reservation for SSR set at DVC. I normally wait for airfare to be bought and secured but since its Easter Week, I thought I had better book. Especially since we are going with a studio which are the first to sell out (one of our nights was "tight" on availability so I am glad its done). Hopefully airfare will still be so affordable two weeks from tomorrow when I book it.

So I guess its back to two trips a year to WDW. I had thought we'd just do one, two week trip per year, but after the heat and just sort of hating to be gone from home so long, we decided to go back to two. As long as airfare doesn't go up to some obscene kind of thing, the only thing that costs more doing two separate trips is that. We do AP's and 16 days worth of meals is the same price whether its one trip or two. Ditto with the pet sitter and airport parking. Sometimes I really wish we lived close enough to drive. I love having a car at WDW but won't pay to rent one anymore and with all the new fees of flying, it just adds up. I also hate to fly! But to see Mickey, I"ll do it.;)

For me, there is nothing like the feeling of having a Disney trip on the books! :cloud9:

Thanks for the frog story! Made my day!!

Praying for friend Lisa & family. So hard on all!

I know it is hard to get back on track, but you CAN and WILL do it!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend & the weather is good.

Welcome back!!! Sounds like you had a great time. I was absolutely cracking up about the frog! And secretly jealous - I wish mine were big enough to suffocate an amphibian! :lmao:

Great job getting back on track with exercising. The food will follow.

Cool that you are already planning your next trip! :cool1:

That's great that you got SSR booked for next year!:thumbsup2 I'm hoping that we can make it for two trips next year as well. I am so gonna miss WDW this December!

I bet your DS is glad to be home! :goodvibes: How was his trip?

I hope you have a safe and happy 4th of July!

Hi Amy. Welcome back. Sounds like you had a good trip over all. I hear you about traveling with others. I learned the hard way, make sure you are all on the same page, BEFORE TRAVELING.

Yay! for going back at Spring Break.:cool1: How was OKW? I get to stay there in January and that is why when my friend asked SSR or OKW, I chose it for two reasons. 1-two real beds & 2-neither of us have ever stayed there.

The frog made me laugh, but had it been me, I would have totally freaked out and probably been sick. At least you could laugh about it with your friends.

Don't worry too much about the extra lbs. You can get them off. You know you can do it. Vacation, even as much walking as one does at Disney, still encourages weight gain.

I will be praying for Lisa. and for you too. You have so much on your mind right now. Your mamo will be okay, but I'll keep praying just the same. I too get nervous before mine each year. Breast cancer is in my family also with the closes one being my mother.

Have a wonderful weekend and a great 4th.

PS - may I have the recipe for the slim chocolate cheesecake?

Thanks Ladies. Sorry I haven't been around. I haven't been behaving too well with food! And I have been so busy getting settled back in from vacation. We have to get a new roof and we have over 4K in hail damage to our car. Major bummer. And I finally got around to making hotel reservations for our trip out to see my brother. Then of course there was the 4th. Had a great time with my sister. I can't believe the 4th is over. And my 17th anniversary is this weekend. Where does time go?

I am very excited for our spring break trip. Of course before that however, I have a trip to DL to plan and look forward to!

Food over the 4th was bad. Got back on track yesterday and today should be fine. I did workout yesterday as well. My plan is to go back to WW thsi week. I hate to spend the money given all the expenses we have right now, but I need the accountablity. Because on my own, I aint' doin so good! I have lost about 8 or 9 of pounds of that 14 I gained so that is good. But given how long it takes me to lose weight, it could take me quite awhile to get all the way back to where I was and beyond. But I am ready to try!

Lisa: I really like OKW. Its sort of like SSR, spread out, laid back but of course themed totally different. The studios there are much better unless its a couple since they do have two beds. We did 15 nights in a studio there last June and it was very comfortable. The units aren't in as good a shape as SSR's (much older property) but they are very nice. I think you'll really like it! If you can, book the Hospitality House section. Its a bookable category when using points and much closer to the main areas. I will pm you the recipe! Its very good.

Amy: That frog may have been dead before he got stuck in my bossom! I saw lots of dead frogs in that lazy river. I hope so, if not, what a way to go! Don't envy my chest, its pure fat. I was a 36B until I got so heavy. They literally drive me nuts and cause me a lot of back pain.:sad2:

Tracy: Two trips to WDW is practically a necessity to me. I know you will miss WDW this December. But saving money is a good thing. Ds had a great time with his friend but I missed him!
