Amy's Journal: Comments Welcome!

Hi Amy,

Congrats on getting the exercise in....and resisting the tator tots!!!!

You are doing a great job....keep up the good work!!!

Hope you had a great Mother's Day!

Happy Monday :)

Wow, really tough weekend and I didn't journal at all. Here is my recap:

Friday: Had chocolate oatmeal for breakfast and a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich (no mayo, no fries) for lunch. That was it. I ran around all day shopping for Mother's Day and running errands and had a doctor's appt. Then that night I had Alz. Support Group at church. I needed to eat but I needed to work out so I worked out for 40 minutes, showered and got to my meeting in the nick of time, STARVING. Resisted all but maybe one tablespoon of cashew halves at the meeting. Got home, I had Dan grill chicken breasts I had been marninating all day. He did, but the dumb dog got a hold of them and ate all four! I was literally shaking I was so hungry (9;00 p.m. by now) so I ate 2 pieces of flatbread frozen pizza, one light beer and a few nachos. Not great. Stupid dog and stupid me for not eating properly and being beyond hungry! Drank 100 oz. of water.

Sat: Had chocolate oatmeal for breakfast. Cooked stuff for Mother's Day all day. Had a few cheeto's during the day but skipped lunch. Then went to a friend's for dinner had one taco and half a soft taco plus one and half light beers. Drank 4 oz. of Dr. Pepper. Drank 100 oz. of water. No exercise.

Sunday, cleaned all day for my Mother's Day gathering. Had chocolate oatmeal for breakfast, skipped lunch, then seafood spread, crackers, chips, salsa, half a turkey burger (no bun) half a brat (no bun), one deviled egg half, half cup of pasta salad and five bites of chocolate pound cake with whipped cream. Also had two light beers and one rum and coke. Not a great day, too much salt, no exercise except I did clean all day long.

Monday:
Chicken breast for breakfast, half a hamburger with 2% cheese (no bun) for a snack, Southbeach diet pizza for lunch, Southbeach diet pb cookies (2) for snack, 3 cups spinach and romaine plus half a chicken breast with 2 TB Italian dressing for dinner. Exercised a total of 50 minutes. Drank 96 oz of water and 24 oz of herbal iced tea. Better day today.

I have been craving salt and junk, and I did cave but not as bad as I could have. I tried to eat as sensibly as I could given the multitude of bad choices I had available. Glad last weekend is behind me. Highlight of the last couple days was when my sister (who compliments me very rarely) noticed I had lost weight and commented about it. It was nice somebody noticed, she's about the first, when you have 100 pounds total to lose, 21 isn't such a big deal! Feel more on track tonight, really glad I exercised after a two day break. Alhtough with all the cleaning and cooking I did on Sat. and Sun. , I truly did not have the energy! So I am caught up on my journaling now, I can go to bed with a clear conscience!

Hi Amy~

It sounds like you had a good weekend! :goodvibes Happy Mother's Day!

That is great that your sister complimented you on your weight loss! :thumbsup2

Keep on keeping on Amy! You are doing great! :cheer2:

That's awesome that your sister gave you that compliment! You must really be making some progress. And 21 lbs, is 21 lbs, no matter how much you have to lose. You are doing GREAT! :woohoo:

I have learned to never skip meals. It just sets me up for disaster. If I am going to be out and about, I always throw a Balance Bar in my purse (I love the chocolate Trail Mix ones). That way I can at least have a healthy choice and not be starving when I get around food.

You got right back on track yesterday, way to go! :cheer2:  :cool1:

Gotta love those beagles! They do love to eat don't they? Buckley's newest trick is getting in the trash. He has some paper towel fetish... :confused3 We finally got a childproof lock on the cupboard door where the kitchen trash is and we have to keep all the bathroom doors shut. He's lucky he's so darn cute - I don't know how long I could put up with his behavior if he wasn't!

Hi Amy - WTG on the compliment! Doesn't that feel so good to hear it?

And EVERY pound is a big deal. One pound at a time, it's just in looking back that they all add up. You're hitting those mini goals and doing good!! :thumbsup2

I agree with the other Amy about not getting too hungry. I do that too often and it is never good. Usually when that happens, I do a huge binge of completely bad stuff, and that sabatoges any good that I've done all week - the mental games we put ourselves through!!

But keep on, you're working hard. :sunny:

Thanks Tracy, Kate and Amy! Oh and Amy, it was actually my dalmation that ate the chicken. Ben the beagle totally would have but he's too short to reach the counter!

Today was pretty good. I had a busy day but kept pretty much on track.

Breakfast: chocolate oatmeal
Lunch: Lean cuisine
Dinner: Hamburger Helper
Snack: cheese its

Didn't have enough veggies, the Lean Cuisine had two and half servings but that was it. I walked 40 minutes on the treadmill but am missing my usual doggie walk as my daughter isn't feeling well and my dh isn't home yet so I don't want to leave her alone. I drank 96 oz. of water and 32 oz. of herbal iced tea. I am not going to get to weigh in tomorrow, my usual day at WW because I have to take my mom to the doctor. So I'll go on Thrusday instead. Kind of a bummer, I love my leader and I am creature of habit so going Thursday rocks my boat! My goal is to lose 9 pounds by June 15 when we leave for Disneyland. That may be aiming too high, we'll see.

Thanks for visiting my journal!

Edited: I got my dog walk in tonight. Several hours late but got another 20 minutes of exercise in. For a total of 60 minutes today which makes me very happy. And the dog is happy too!

Hi Amy~

Way to go getting your exercise in yesterday! :yay: Keep up the good work! :cheer2:

How is your DD feeling today? I hope she is feeling much better! :goodvibes

Have a wonderful Wednesday! :sunny:

Great job getting that walk in! That is a bummer that you have to miss your usual meeting, but at least you have the option of going to a different one.

Don't be discouraged or disappointed if you don't make your goal by the time you leave. However much weight you lose will be awesome and if it is 9+lbs, that's even better! :thumbsup2

Keep it up! I hope DD feels better soon. :wizard:

Thanks Tracy and Amy! Maria felt much better yesterday, she had gotten her braces tightened on Tuesday and the taste of rubber gloves, the glue they use for the bands, plus the pain of sore teeth made for a miserable evening!

I had a crazy, hectic day on Wednesday. I took my mom to the hospital for her test. She griped, moaned, complained and was just a pill the whole time. They finally took her back and then I got to chat with some crazy old woman waiting for her neighbor to get her test done! I felt surrounded by crazy geriatrics, and was tempted to escape to the hospital cafeteria for chocolate creme pie which is what I usually do when my mom is there. But I resisted and camped out in the waiting area with my water bottle and the old lady from Hell. Then I rushed to get my hair cut, then rushed to Maria's music program, then rushed to get Matthew's hair cut, then the library and finally came home and felt like collapsing. I decided I had to walk so I did, 45 minutes on the treadmill. I was so tired and so not into it but I did it. Food was good, I let myself get too hungry before dinner but still managed.

Breakfast: Chocolate oatmeal
Lunch: squash soup, eaten in 30 seconds between gigs
Snack: Balance Bar
Dinner: 3 cups green leaf lettuce, 1/2 chicken breast, 1/4 cup 2% milk cheese, 3TB 1000 Island Dressing. High fat salad but I was so hungry and had hadn't had much fat or protein so I "beefed" it up!
Snack: ff pudding
96 oz.water, 16 oz. herbal iced tea.

Will journal today later as it unfolds and visit others journals then. Thanks so much everybody!

Whoa, that's a lot of running around. AND you still got your workout in? That is amazing, I would have caved... :worship:

Sorry to hear about the experience at the hospital. I remember a couple years ago when DS10 spent 13 hours in the ER (they thought he had appendicitis) and we were the only ones under 70 in there... And of course they all wanted to talk!

You are doing great with your eating, keep it up! :cheer2:

Hi Amy,

Sorry to hear that the dog got a hold of the chicken. Hopefully she is alright...
Glad to hear that DD is feeling better too.

You are doing a great job with eating and exercise. Keep up the great work...

Have a wonderful weekend, take time for Amy...reading your journal..you need it!!!

Wow, the last few days have been insane. Here is a recap of the past three:

Thursday:
Breakfast: Chocolate oatmeal, small orange
Lunch: Southbeach Diet Pizza
Dinner: chips and salsa, one Coors Light, turkey burger with 2% milk American cheese, lettuce and tomatoe

Friday:
Denver omlette from Village Inn, side of fruit. Skipped the hashbrowns and toast. I didn't even miss them. Good thing because dinner is still to come and it ain't too good.
Lunch: ff pudding
Dinner: 4 small pieces of fried shrimp, 2/3 cup mac and cheese, 2 cups salad greens with 1 tb 1000 island dressing, about 4 bites of clam chowder, 1 small baby back rib, 1 small piece lemon cake, a few bites of bread pudding. Dinner was Country Buffet, my parents and children's favorite restaurant that is IMPOSSIBLE to eat healthy at. I hate that place.

Saturday:
Breakfast: Kashi with skim milk
Lunch: McDonald's Big Kids meal with double cheeseburger and Mr. Pibb and small fry. Why did I get a regular soda? :guilty:
Dinner: 6 oz. lean grilled steak, small salad with lowfat ranch dressing. Chips and salsa and one Coors Light beer.

Not so good the past few days. I am really struggling, I feel exhausted and just tired of worrying about life in general. I could have done better, I could have done worse. Not weighing in this week due to taking my mom to the dr. and missing my WW meeting was not good. I really need that accountablility and it just sort of makes me feel rejuvenated when I go. So no more skipping meetings. I should have gone Thursday but I got the morning time wrong and couldn't make the later meeting. Also need to lay off the Coors light and chips and salsa. I only had one each time and didn't eat that many chips but I don't need to be doing that! Hoping for a better day tomorrow, I need to schedule in one hour of exercise. I did exercise all three of those days but not long enough. Oh well, something is better than nothing!

Isn't it amazing how something as little as a change in routine can get you all out of whack? We are really creatures of habit. This week you will get back on track. Treat your WW meeting as a MUST. Schedule things around it. I've found that is the only way I can get to the gym, etc. It has to be a priority. Your food doesn't look all that bad! If you hate the buffet, maybe next time you could smuggle in a salad or something. I've done that when my kids want to go to a pizza place. I feel really devious, but we still buy pizza, so they never say anything...

You are still doing great, keep it up! Today starts a brand new week.

:grouphug: Amy~

Today is clean slate day! :Pinkbounc Everything from the weekend is gone and forgotten and today is a brand new day! :sunny:

Please be sure and do something special for you today: read a book, take a quiet walk, listen to music, e.t.c..... :cloud9: I hope today is a wonderful day for you! :sunny:

Take care, Amy. :grouphug:

Thanks Amy and Tracy. I do need to schedule time for me and make my meetings! Actually when I neglect myself I end up not being as good to my kids as I should because I am worn out and stressed. So if I look at it that way, I dont' feel so guilty when I take some "me" time!

I tried to log on last night to post the day's eating/exercise but the server was down so I'll do yesterday and today.

Monday, May 22:

Breakfast: Carb Control Shake
Lunch: Southbeach diet pizza
Dinner: Mandarin Chicken Salad from Wendy's
Snack: ff pudding
Exercise: 45 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minute doggy walk so 60 minutes total. The exercise challenge is helping me, when I don't feel like exercising, I think about it and don't want to not make my goal of 800 minutes. So thanks Amy for doing this month's challenge!

Tuesday, May 23:
Breakfast: Chocolate oatmeal
Lunch: 6 oz. of steak, 1 cup steamed broccoli with lowfat cheese sauce.
Snacks: small helping of pretzels, small helping of Goldfish. Can we say TOM makes me a carb crazed woman?
Dinner: Healthy choice meatloaf with mashed potatoes, greenbeans and apple crisp.
Drank 64 oz. of water, 16 oz. of Diet Dr. Pepper and 10 oz. of iced herbal tea. I may have some watermelon pretty quick as I had an early dinner and can tell I need a little something else. Weigh in at WW tomorrow, we'll see, TOM might make this weigh in less than stellar. I hate hormones!
Exercise for today: 30 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minute doggy walk.

Hi Amy!

Sending you some :wizard: for weigh-in tomorrow. Thanks for your encouragement in my journal! :goodvibes

Have a great Wednesday! :sunny:

Hi Amy,

Hope your WI goes well tomorrow.... :wizard: I am sure that it will.

You are doing a great job...keep up the good work!!!

Have a great day :)

How did your weigh-in go? I hear ya on the hormones - I used to easily gain 5 lbs the week before TOM. I hated it! The only good thing is that you know it will go away soon...

I'm glad the exercise challenge is motivating you! I know it really helps me get to the gym sometimes.

Looks like your eating is back on track, way to go! :cheer2:  :cool1:

Weigh in was good, I was down 3 pounds for a total of 24 pounds. I love my meeting and my leader and I always feel so totally back on track when I come out of there. I told my stepdad to please not schedule anything for my mom on Wednesday's if he expects me to help out. He seemed to understand. I reminded him he gave me a book called Self Matters by Dr. Phil so I just practiced what good old Dr. Phil preached and put my meeting first! I was surprised with the loss given my snacking over the weekend and TOM. But then I realized that my snacking now is no way like it used to be so I guess its all relative! Thanks sooo much for all the support everybody!

Today's food:
Breakfast: Weight Watchers eclair. I ate this on the way home from Wal Mart after my meeting. I never eat before my 9:00 a.m. meeting and I always wear the same thing so that I can't blame any gain on breakfast or clothes. So I treated myself to one of WW's frozen snacks. Not bad but I missed my oatmeal!

Lunch: Lean Cuisine, salad with lowfat soutwest ranch.
Snack: Bowl of Shredded Wheat.
Dinner: I need to eat now, I worked out at 6:30 and wanted to wait and eat after that and with my husband who is just now getting home.

Question for anybody who might know: How much time should you allow in between working out and eating? I heard once you shouldn't eat for two hours before or after a workout but that is hard to do. I can usually do an hour but I typically walk either after breakfast or before dinner and sometimes I can't wait to hours to eat or walk! Anybody know about this? Thanks!

Congrats on the loss!! You are doing great! I'm glad the meetings are so motivational for you and I'm glad you are determined to make them a priority in your schedule. :cheer2:

As for the eating after working out, listen to your body. Some people (like me) are starving after exercising and others don't eat for a couple hours. I know it is best to eat some protein after a workout to help your body recover. What works for one person might not work for another. I don't think there is a right or wrong way, just whatever works best for YOU. You are losing weight, so whatever you are currently doing is working! :thumbsup2
