It's late but I can't sleep so I'm working on our plans for the January trip. Mostly, I've been working on how to make my DD's 6th birthday really special (since she won't be home to have a traditional birthday party).

This daughter is a total girly-girl so I'm going to try my HARDEST to get in to Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner with the family. She'll definately dress up as a princess and I've just been struck by an idea that's just making me chuckle.

I wonder if I could get the entire family to dress in costume for DD's special birthday dinner. Like I said, my DD5 would not have it any other way. You can tell just by looking at her:

My DD3 will be on board, too. She's more tomboyish but likes the novelty of costumes.

Now HERE is where it gets tough.
My "DD"18 (my sister in my custody) will probably be okay with the idea if maybe she could find something cute like Tinkerbell in her size.

My DS9 might be on board if I can convince him how cool he'd look in the pirate costume (and I could remind him that he'd get to carry a sword). I think he'd make a CUTE pirate!!

And HERE is where it gets pretty much impossible.
My husband. Kid at heart but...professional firefighter. Sgt. (soon-to-be Lt.) in the Army Reserves. "Manly man," you know? I'm not sure even the coolest pirate costume in the world could get him on board.

And...of course, marching my big family around the park in full costume (even if only for a couple of hours) might gain slightly more attention than we'd be comfortable with.

Oh, well. Maybe I'll just let the kids go in costume if/as they choose. The thought of my Giant Birthday Costume Extravaganza is pretty funny...at least to me. Probably not to the Sarge.

Holy cow! Those pictures are BIG!!! Sorry. I resized them before posting them to Photobucket but apparently that didn't "stick."

I just ran my fun idea by Sgt. He said some words, most of which contained four letters, and the last one was "no."

I have no idea how you would get dad to go along. My husband wouldn't. I don't even have to ask.

If you do get them to go along with the plan, I don't think you can have dinner in any of the parks dressed up. As far as I know, adults can't go in the parks in costume, unless its during the MNSSHP.

...asking him yourself. Never send a 'Mom' to do what a 'daughter' can do much better. If the little DD's (especially the one whose turning 6) catches him at a relaxed moment and goes up and very sweetly asks... 'Daddy, all I really really REALLY want for my birthday is for you to dress up like my Prince for our dinner with Cinderella' - he won't be able to say no. Trust me.

Just a word of caution if parents dress up they will be thrown out of the parks. This happened not to long ago when a parent dressed as one of the Princesses.

I say have everyone under 4 feet tall (ie. your son he would look so cute as a pirate, and you're (youngest) two daughters...beautiful) :goodvibes

Adults aren't allowed to wear a costume anyway. This is from the DW site about attire that is not permissable:

Adult costumes or clothing that can be viewed as a costume

Earlier posters are correct about adults not being allowed to dress up. They don't want children to think a visitor is one of the characters.

What about having the littler ones dress up and then make t-shirts for the adults that say something like "I'm a mom/dad/big sis to two princesses and a pirate"? Adults are also allowed to wear crowns/pirate hats with regular clothes, so maybe you could convince DH to go that far?

I saw several groups wearing matching shirts that said things like...
Celebrating Ryan's 15th Birthday!

Just remember, they take your picture at the castle.

Have fun!!! :goodvibes

First of all your kids are so adorable!!
We have a ressie for CRT this year & I convinced DS6 & DS4 to take a pic w/ Cinderella by telling them you get a sword if you do. Maybe you can tell DS all the pirates get a sword! Nothing would get my husband to dress up, not even on Halloween & he is Dad of the year!!

Thanks for all the responses. It was just a funny, off-the-wall idea I thought I would share. The alternate ideas you provided are really good!!

That being said, now that you mention it, I can totally see and understand why adults should not be allowed to dress up. First and foremost, it would create a very real danger for children by allowing them to place undue trust in a grown-up who was not a CM but would certainly be able to pretend to be one. (Shudder.)

This is true only for regular park hours. If you are going to a "hard ticket event" like pirate and princess party dressing up is allowed for adults.

Instead of booking dinner at CRT do a breakfast or lunch so the princesses will be there. Dinner does not have that. I was on the phone last night with 407-wdw-dine and she told me dinner does not have all the characters. I think only Fairy godmother. We took our dd there for lunch for bday and she loved it and she got extra attention from the princesses. :) Have a wonderful trip and I know your dd will love her bday there!

Thanks for the clarification... I've seen TONS of pictures with adults dressed up - especially for MNSSHP - and we're planning on doing that as a family. Two princesses and two pirates.

Have you considered taking your daughter to the BBB? They have many packages and you can get one that lets her choose a princess costume then have a photo shoot...it is a bit pricey, but may be a fun thing for her to do! Have fun!

Here's an idea. I bought my family of 8 matching shirts for the guys and dresses for the gals at Disneyshopping.com that year it was Hawaii Mickey. We all went to 1900 Park Fare for dinner that night and Cinderella loved that we were all dressed a like. We had so many comments on the buses, on walk ways, from the CMs. It was so much fun. :rotfl: You can check out Disney Shopping. I'm not sure if they still have matching stuff for everyone but it would be worth a shot. We ranged in age from 3DS to 69Grandma.
