Amtrak question

I've got my confirmed ressies (YEAH!!! POR Dec. 4, 4 nights, Wonder 4 nights, back to POR 1 night!).

We're three adults (me, DH and DGrandpa). Grandpa won't fly. If he had been meant to fly he would have been born with wings. SO, we're arriving by Amtrak, which is incredibly convenient for us at this end, and a wonderful way to travel.

How do I get from the station in Orlando to WDW?

I've gotten so much information from these boards in planning my trip last year and in getting excited for my upcoming trip. I know somebody can help me!

Beth :D

GET OFF AT KISSIMMEE!! It is a LOT closer! If you do, ask the transportaion company for a FLAT rate! It should be 30.00 from Kissimmee to your resort. I have used ABC transportaion and Celebration Airport Transportation. (407)-465-1100. If you have a cell phone, you can call from Train an Hour before arrival and they will be there! Ask for Tony or Chris.:D

Hi Beth! My son and I love to go to Orlando by train (we're also in New Jersey). At the Amtrak station in Orlando you can simply get a cab to WDW. Even a car service like Tiffany's will pick you up there if you prearrange that (I've done that too). I don't remember seeing Mears at the train station, but there are plenty of cabs, so you will have no trouble whatsoever getting from the station to WDW!
.
We're going down by train in 16 days and are looking forward to it!

Have a great time!:)

I agree with Poohbear about getting off at Kissimmee--it is much closer to WDW. I usually have Tiffany pick me up, but the suggestion of the cab for only $30 sounds good. I may have to look into this next trip. Thanks, Poohbear! :D

No problem MdmMiM!;) I am using them again in June!:D

Thanks, everybody!

I hadn't thought of getting off in Kissimmee. Any idea what it would cost for Tiffany Town Car (from either place...I have to check train fares and stuff like that? We're having Grandpa picked up at his house by limo to get to the train station in Newark, and might like to do the same at the other end. He's 75 years old, and this will be his first vacation EVER! He's never been more than 100 miles from home.

Last year I got off in Orlando and Tiffany Towncar met us there. They charged us $80 round trip, pre-paid in advance. I just might go to Kissimee Station this year, but I think it costs more on Amtrak, anyone know?

Just a thought..........in my experiences twice with Amtrak from Newark to Kissimmee, the 12 noon train was never on time and on average 2-3 hours late. Just looking at the recent arrival times seems that the noon out of Newark is more on time than the 7PM, don't know if they changed something. Don't know if this affects the limo company waiting for your arrival..........Also, the station in Kissimmee is a throwback to the late 1800's. Last time I was there the status board is on a chalkboard, and is manned by only 1 person. Walking around inside is really neat, you could still see where the cast iron stove used to be. With Amtrak planning/making cutbacks I would not be that surprised if the station was not manned, recent article in train's industry magazine pointed that out. If any of that has you concerned, use Orlando even though it is farther...

I have used Tiffany in the past--$80 round trip. The last time I checked, the price on Amtrak was the same for Orlando and Kissimmee. The ride is only 15-20 minutes more--Kissimmee is the next stop after Orlando and way less crowded. :) I was last there in Feb., and the station was manned by two people. I've traveled on Amtrak from NYC to Kissimmee at least 12 times during the past few years and just love it! :)

Thanks, everybody!

We've pretty much decided to go to Kissimmee and take Tiffany Town Car from there. We're trying to give Grandpa the experience of a lifetime. We've already arranged a limo to pick him up at his house and take him to Penn Station in Newark (a family member!). Of course, we still have a little while to decide, since we're not going until after Thanksgiving!
