I suppose this could be considered off topic, but I know that someone on these boards will have the info I'm searching for. Does the Amtrak station in Philadelphia have a parking lot available? I've tried the Amtrak website, but I can't seem to find any info re the above. I'm planning a quick trip and hope to be able to park my car in a safe, secure location, but not knowing Philly very well, I don't want to arrive and have to scramble for somewhere to leave my car. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, here's what the website says about parking:

Underground Garage (Entrance on 30th Street)
No public parking as of September 19,2005.
Parking restricted absolutly to rental cars and authorized cars only.
unauthorized cars will be towed at owner's expense.

There are numerous parking lots in the vicinity. There are two major universities in the area, so there is an abundance of parking lots.

Those lots are goign to run $20-30 a day, and some don't allow overnigh parking. IMHO they are also not all that secure.

To the OP--WHERE in PA are you located? If you are in one of teh towns surrounding PA (Croydon, Ardmore, Fort Washington, etc.) it would probably be cheaper to take a cab or car service and leave your car home.

Another option might be to spend the night in one of the airport area hotels that offer a stay and fly package where parking is free, and then take a cab into Center City the next morning. For $100 in hotel costs and $25 in cab costs, it might still be less expensive.

How about long term parking at a commuter rail station and take one of those trains to the Amtrak station?

Thanks so very much for all the responses. I'm traveling from NE PA (about 2 hours in travel time) and am not looking forward to the city drive at all. I will take a look at each suggestion and discuss w DH when he gets home. My hometown is very, and I do mean very, small. We don't really have access to other rail service. Even the nearest small airport is probably at least an hour drive away. Well, now I have good info from the Disney experts. Thanks again so much. You folks really are the best!

If you are two hours away in northeast PA you Have to be close to a rail line, you may need to cross the river to Jersey but I'd leave my car out there and take a train to 30th Street. I think someone suggested driving to the airport and leaving your car in a lot there and then taking the train from the airport to 30th STR. this works well also the trains from the airport run about every 30 minutes and are easy to find and not expensive, In fact it may be cheaper to pay airport parking and the train fare back to the city than parking in a safe city garage.

Most commuter rail stations in NJ and PA don't allow long term (or even overnight) praking.

None of the NJ train stations offer long term/overnight parking except to those with a monthly permit. To get from a NJ commuter station (except Princeton Jctn and MetroPark where you can catch Amtrack) you would have to change planes in Trenton from NJT to SEPTA. It's not a fun process when you've got luggage.

Hi...If you live along the Septa line, you can take the Septa train to 30th st station and then get on Amtrak.

Hiya! I'm originally from NEPA, but now in SEPA/Phila 'burb. :)
There are plenty of lots in Center City Phila, try getting in touch with the Philadelphia Parking Authority. (philapark.org) I know there are a few garages around Market and Chestnut Sts. (Most convenient would probably be between 15th/City Hall, and 40th Streets.) You could then take a short cab ride from the parking garages to 30th Street Station. Also, philadelphiatransportation.com should help you out, too!

Good Luck!! HTH!!

Thanks again everyone. I really do appreciate the info. Now I just have to get my act together and make some decisions. LOL.

And Congratulations DisneyBride and fellow NEPAer (if there is such a thing). Funny, my wedding anniversary is Sept 22nd. Is there a pattern here? Anyway, best wishes for a long happy marriage.
