Amtrak in Anaheim Question

So we are taking the Amtrak from Oregon for our trip. I know that ART has transportation from the Amtrak station to our hotel, however, we are not going to be getting in until 11pm. Would it be wiser for us to plan on calling a cab at that time of night vs. trying to get on ART. Will there be a lot of other people trying to get to DLR at that time from the Amtrak station? Not sure if any of you have done this trip before. Any info would be appreciated. :confused3

What fun!

Just in case you don't often take Amtrak, know that you will be getting in later than expected. An hour, 3 hours, I actually have friends who were TWELVE hours late going from SF to Seattle on Amtrak. You'll be late. Know it, plan for it, make a fun time by betting on it. :)

I know that at the Seattle station, there is a line-up of cabs waiting when the Coast Starlight (and the other one) get in. I don't know if it's the same in Anaheim, but I would bet that cabs are easy to come by just about any time of night, when a train gets in.

Like a previous poster said...Amtrak is pretty much always at least a couple of hours late, so be sure to plan for that & let the reservation desk at the hotel you're staying at know that you will be checking in late!

Also, like everyone else has said...go with a taxi when you get there. You probably won't feel up to dealing with the multiple stops that ART makes once you're done with the rail portion of your trip. There are PLENTY of taxis waiting around at the Anaheim station; if I remember correctly, cab fare was about $12 from the station to DL.

Have fun on your trip!

Thank you all, That is what I figured, but my DH thought well ART is there. I think it will be better and more relaxing all around to just take a cab!

I'd program a few numbers into your phone and call ahead for a cab from the train. They might not be waiting there for you if you get in too late. The time I took the train, cell coverage was good the whole way.

On my trip from Sonoma County to Anaheim, last month, the train was on time, matter of fact, the bus connection from Bakersfield to LA, made for great timing from the stand point, that I was able to board Amtrak in LA for Anaheim, one hour earlier from the estimated time of departure, that was wonderful, when I departed from the train in Anaheim, there was a nice row of cabs, all lined up, ah, I felt like they were just waiting for little o'l me to arrive, and in a way, they were, I knew that ART had a bus that goes from this station to your property, however, I did not know what the schedule was like, how long it may take, and the fact that I was hot, sweaty and tired, for various reasons, the last thing that I felt like doing was dealing with a bus at this venture of my trip, so I could not walk fast enough to the first cab that I saw, ah, relief, a/c, and no b.s. (best I can tell anyway) I loved just being able to get into a cab, departing, and then when it was time to return, taking a cab back to the station, it was fast, easy, and again, A/C! ah.......

Have a wonderful train ride, and a great and fantabulous visit to Disneyland! :flower3: :) I very much enjoyed my ride on Amtrak, and will be traveling with them again.

Take a cab.
I took the train from Klamath Falls to Anaheim. It was on time. I really wish I'd had a sleeper, I'm not good sleeping sitting. If you are sleeping in your seat try to get a car away from the diner/club car and a seat behind the stairs, less disturbance of people walking to the club/diner car.
Hope you enjoy.

We have came in via Amtrak from Fort Worth to LA on several different occasions. Probably at least 5 times. We were late on all of them except one. That being the case, it makes it tricky to make arrangements for pickup in advance. We gave up and decided taking a cab was the easiest option.

If this is your first train trip I bet your son will have a fun time. Travel is slow but it's one of those "everyone should do it once" experiences.
