Hi all, my husband and I are going to Amsterdam in early July for an adults only trip. We have been before (as have I a couple of other times) so we have been to the major attractions/things to do/see. Does anyone have any suggestions on things that we may not have done before. (previously been to the main museums, Ann Frank Haus, canal tour). Also any food or market suggestions. Just trying to think outside of the box a bit. Thank you.

Fun fact, three USA players have played for the club in the past (it might be a trivia question on the tour 🤷‍♂️) :

Sergiño Dest
Defender
11.09.2019 to 30.09.2020

John O'Brien
Midfield
30.06.1999 to 31.12.2004

Eddy Hamel
Attack
31.08.1922 to 30.06.1930

When my husband and I did a long weekend in Amsterdam a few years ago, we used the i Amsterdam City Card to get free admission to a bunch of places. Even if you don't get the card, you can use the website to get a list of interesting places: https://www.iamsterdam.com/en/tickets

On our first day, when we needed something mindless due to the jet lag, we went to this tourist spot which is similar to Soarin' at Disneyland/Walt Disney World: https://www.thisisholland.com/en/

Did you try Rijsttafel the last time you were there? That was one of my favorite things that we did. I think we went to Tujuh Maret if my iPhoto location is accurate. Also kind of silly but we rented a car to check out the beach and windmills and visited the Brederode Castle ruins on the way, which I thought were really cool. Unfortunately my niece slept through the visit, because she would have loved it. Not worth renting a car just for that, but if you happen to have one they are worth seeing.

Yes we did and I agree. We will be visiting a friend that lives in Haarlem one day.

Lots of options:

As part of our river cruise we took several years ago, we did an afternoon bike tour through the country north of Amsterdam. It was very interesting, and although we loved Amsterdam it was nice to do something outside the city.

If you are car renting perhaps a visit to the Nord Zee? You can also hop a train to Rotterdam and take in the incredible modern architecture. I love the buildings that look like they are tipping into water and of course the “pencil” building.

These are great suggestions. Have you done any of these? Too many options. :) need to weed through them.
We've been to Kinderdijk on a river cruise.

I've looked at the various food tours and I'm intrigued, but we haven't been back to the Netherlands since that trip.

I don't know if you are interested in only staying around Amsterdam, but the Delta Works is very interesting. However, you'd probably need to look into at least an overnight trip to check that out, since it's about a 4 1/2 trip to even get there.

Also any food or market suggestions.
Have you been to Albert Cuyp Market in De Pijp? It’s has a great neighborhood vibe, not as touristy as some other spots. Foodhallen is also fun with lots of international options to try. It’s in Amsterdam West.

The Pancake Bakery on Prinsengraght had the best Dutch pancakes in my opinion. Winkel 43 in the Jordaan for the best Dutch apple pie.

We just got back from Amsterdam recently and I miss it already. I wish I was sitting on a bench in Vondelpark right now.

One more… I guess since you have been several times to Amsterdam you’ve tried the viral Fabel Friet fries that everyone is bonkers over. We were just wandering around the 9 Streets district one day and literally ran into the place. The line wasn’t very long so we decided to have a snack. It wasn’t until we came home that we were told that they were some kind of viral sensation. Lol. We just knew we were hungry and it was right in front of us. The truffle mayo Parmesan fries were insanely delicious.

I have not as most of my trips were years ago. I travel with my stomach so this is a wonderful suggestion. :) Thank you.

We do as well, and we ate our way through Amsterdam. De Silveran Spiegel is a very elegant spot with amazing food for a fancy dining experience. Black and Blue was more laid back but excellent as well.

Amsterdam really is a foodie town. We’re going back next year and I already have a long list of restaurants I want to try. You can only eat so much in a week! I tried my best to fit them all in. :)
