We are thinking of taking the girls to Amish Country today, but don't really know WHERE to go. Are there any little towns or farms or something that have nice little shops, or anything like that? I will need the name of the town / area, or address or something so I can plug it into the GPS.

TIA

TONS of tons with little shops. Many have interesting names for you to put into your GPS: Intercourse, Blue Ball, etc. If you search 'Dutch Country PA" on google you'll get the tourism website.

I highly recommend eating at Good and Plenty restaurant, which I think is officially in Smoketown. There are also good outlet malls.

I really want to take my girls to maybe a working farm or something like that. Something that they can learn something at, while still having fun. Plus maybe another area for the shopping for me!! LOL

I found a really neat looking place - http://www.amishfarmandhouse.com/Home_Page.html

Anyone ever been? We may have to wait till tomorrow to go since according to mapquest it will take 2.5 hours to get there, they close at 5pm, and DH won't be home from softball till at least 11.30am. I'm excited I found a place that looks fun and educational, but if anyone knows of any others, let me know!!!

TIA

The places that mentioned are great. However, many of the actual Amish places will be closed today, since it is Sunday:guilty:

Outlet malls and a few restaurants might be all you can do. I know Good and Plenty is closed on Sunday.

It looks like your girls are young. Dutch Wonderland is a nice little amusement park for little ones. We took our kids, years ago for an overnight trip and did Dutch Wonderland, toured a farmhouse and rode the train at the Strassburg Railroad. It was a nice trip. Have fun!

Check out Cherry Crest Farm...lots of fun activities for the kids. Also check out the Disney Outlet in the Rockvale Outlet Center;)

ETA: The Amish farm & house is pretty cool, as is Strasburg RR. You can even have lunch in the dining car! There is also a cool Children's Museum called the Hands On House...you might want to google that before you just go...I'm not sure if they will be open on Labor Day.

I went there (the farm) when my children were little, and it was fun. We also love the Strasberg railroad, dutch wonderland, kitcken kettle village for shops. You will see Amish on any back road you take. Oh- and the Hands on House Museum. Sights and Sounds theater is pricey but AMAZING.
