I bought my first lanyard last night at the disney store for myself and my daughter, but I thought I remembered reading somewhere that with the AMEX white glove treatment you get one free somewhere? Where is that and how do I get it? Thanks!

One more thing...Is it bad pin etiquette to say NO if someone wants a pin you don't want to give up???

Hi Sharon,

If you stay on Disney property (can someone confirm that this applies to DL as well as WDW?) and pay with your AMEX, they give you a lanyard with two AMEX pins on it. You also get discounts at DTD if you use your AMEX and charge over a certain amount..I think it is $75.

An NO, it is not bad etiquette to say no if you don't want to trade a particular pin. There is alot of debate as to whether you should put pins on your lanyard which you do not wish to trade. My lanyard always has pins on it that are not for trade, but I always tell people that right away. Usually I don't get any arguement from them...does that help?:)

I completely agree with Beauty about pin trading etiquette. I also wear pins on my lanyard that are for display only. If someone asks, I politely say the pin is for show, not for trading. I've only had one minor argument with someone and I just decided to walk away. If you have any problems, you can always ask a CM for help.

There is a minimum night stay in order to receive the pin and lanyard set. I think 3 nights? We weren't allowed to have one last stay cause we were only there 1 night. (I talked the CM out of one ofcourse, but we weren't 'supposed' to get when according to him)

So if my hotel will be paid in full prior to getting there, If I leave my AMEX for other future bills on the hotel room, will I still get the Lanyard? Do you have to ask for it, last time I think we got a fanny pack....
Thanks!

The past few times we've been to WDW, we've had to ask for the lanyards at check-in - even at Concierge. For a while, I believe there was a shortage of them, but I don't think that's the case anymore.

As for the trading question, I believe it's okay to so no to any trade, whether the pin is on your lanyard or not. The only time I feel badly is when it's a little kid trying to make the trade, and I usually end up giving/trading them a rack pin anyway.

Hi Sharon,

As for the AMEX lanyard at DLR, I see people in the parks with them on but I don't use AMEX so I don't know how they received them.

As for Saying NO, remember, they are YOUR pins, you are not a CM so if you do not want to trade, you don't have to.

BTW Wearing a lanyard for showing off your pins is called "peacocking"
(Mods, just because I said it, does not mean that it is obscene).

But always use these two words together ;)

Right now the hotel are giving the lanyards and pins instead of the white glove belly bag. When we checked into OKW last week the Cm told us she had to give us that instead of the belly bag, because Amex did not sign the contact with Disney to be the credit card of choice. It is going to be Vista. So that is why they are giving the lanyards instead of the belly bags. We were there only two nights.

From what I know about pin trading and I am one of them the only people who cannot say no to a trade are the CM'S. they must trade as long as the pin is a Disney approved pin. There are some knock offs out there and people do try to pass them off. If it is a private person they can say no. You can go up to any cm no matter what position they hold and ask to see the pin, and they must stop what they are doing and let you look. You can only do two trades with one cm at a time. It cannot be the same pin twice, it must be a different pin. Actually what they would like you to do, do one trade and then the other.

I hope this helps

Just wanted to add a little adive to webmomom's great advice:
If the CM is helping another guest, be polite and wait until they are done or free to speak with you. :D

In the past I have paid for my room in full in advance, but when I checked in and they asked if I wanted to leave a credit card for incidentals, I always use my Am-ex and I have always gotten the fanny pack and then the lanyard with the pins when they started that. It has not mattered how many nights my stay was for. Usually, we stay at the AllStars for 1 day before moving over to OKW, and it has never been a problem with a 1-night stay.

I want an AMEX lanyard, so I can add it to my lanyard collection...but Im not plannin' on staying on property anytime soon. Oh well...;)

I guess I had always thought that if you had a pin on your lanyard it meant it was available to trade. You may not always want the trade that is offered and can say no, but then the trader can up the ante. I had always understood that if the pin was not for trade, then it should be on your shirt collar or pocket, etc.

This is just the way that pin trading was explained to me by the CM's when I first started trading in 10/99. Sounds llike maybe the rules have changed since then.
