Hey fellow Canadians,

I was wondering where you get your pennies and quarters for pressing? Could I just stop at any bank in the US and exchange bills for rolls of coins?

Just go to any front desk at any of the resorts or parks and they will exchange for you, or give you the change.

Yes, pennies work but you need American quaters. I have been hoarding pennies since they stopped making them ;)

I've got a ton of pennies too! I'm going to bring them for us and use them. I know I have to use US quarters. That's okay though, any left overs we can use at home after.

Thank you for the replies. I wasn't sure if Canadian pennies would work. I have a ton of them so that's great :) Guess I can ask for quarters at guest services at the park.

Thanks a lot!

I don't know a whole lot about Canadian pennies, but if they've switched from pure copper to a zinc core with copper coating, you might want to hunt for pennies that are solid copper - they press prettier, without streaks of silver showing up from the zinc.

Canadian pennies were nearly pure copper until 1996. Those pennies up to 1996 press very nicely in the machines. From 1997 - 1999 the pennies were mostly zinc - they press nicely but show a silver streak. From 2000 to the end of production in 2012, Canadian pennies were mostly steel. From my experience, these don't press as well in a number of machines and they have the silver streaks. So 1996 and earlier for CDN pennies if you can.

For American pennies, try for 1981 or earlier. After that, U.S. pennies were mostly zinc. I've been collecting pressed pennies a long time and it's getting harder to find coins that old in the US. I may have to switch to Canadian pennies since we've still got a few kicking around in jars somewhere.

My kids LOVED the pressed pennies! Each night before bed they would look over the one's made that day and put it in the sleeves/ penny holder we bought. It was a great way for them to settle down before bed.

We found the shinny pennies were the best and used Canadian pennies.

M&m containers store the quarters and pennies nicely. One of the best tips I got from Dis!
