I thought Clay did pretty well. There was just something about the way he sang that particular song that I wasn't blown away by, but I still love him.

Rickey- I just can't stand his voice. Sounds like someone has him by the boxers. :o

Carmen- For once I think she DID pick a song that was right for her voice. I still can't stand her voice, but I thought this song worked for her.

Kim Locke- She did great as usual, I just wished she had picked a song that wasn't so played out!

Kim C.- ICK ICK, tripple ICK! I thought she sounded horrid!

Josh- Adorable and sounded wonderful this week!! I was a little worried with the start of the song, but he pulled it off.

Trenyce- I thought she sounded beautiful! I think she has great potential and hope she gets to stick around long enough to show off her real talent.

Ruben- HE DIDN'T WEAR THAT 205 SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so glad. He looked very handsome tonight and of course sounded superb. Judging by the crowd, I seriously think Ruben will win it. He just seems to have a huge fan base.

So.....tell me your thoughts.

OH....my choice of bottom 3. Carmen, Kim C., Rickey.

I loved Josh tonight, I missed Kimberly Lock and Clay, but I wasn't too impressed with Clay when they did the little playback at the end. Kimberly C. was horrid, and I wasn't impressed with Trenyce. Rueben sounded very good tonight.

Bottom 3

Kimberly C
Trenyce
Carmen

DH seems to think that maybe Clay needs to ge a taste of being a part of the bottom 3 so he'll do something different.

i think most of them are lacking depth. Clay needs to get
quirky at least once and the blondes need to get voted off.
Ruben strutted his stuff and showed he had something
besides the area code for Alabama in his wardrobe which
was WAY over due. Josh can't do anything but country and
was screaming on his high notes - the marine "thing" is
carrying him so far. I'm way tired of Trenyce and Ricky!!!
Ruben gets my vote every week. I'm chagrined that I agree
with Simon. lol

Kim C. - did not like it. FINALLY she picks a ballad and proves that ballads are not her thing (she always seems to pick rocker songs which frankly even I could sing, lol.) hehehe

Ruben - nice. I'd like to see him sing something totally different though - a Britney Spears song, for instance, lol

Clay - nice - didn't like his version of that song though

Kim L. - nice, better than I could do hehehe

Carmen - I think Kim C. should have used this song. I didn't like Carmen's version of it

Trenyce (sp?) - she can sing. I wouldn't vote for her though because of her criminal history. Hey it's called American Idol, after all, and she's not my idol. I hope she gets the boot.

Ricky - he sings too high for my taste. Seems like a nice person though.

Josh - would make a great country singer

My least favorite--and the one I believe gets the boot tonight--it's a toss-up between Kim Caldwell and Carmen--if I must choose just one--Carmen. It's a tough choice for me because I really don't like Kim C. :) I am very hard pressed to pick a third person--but if I must I suppose it would be Trenyce. I actually thought Ricky did well tonight.

Clay and Ruben were, once again, the best! Neither of them seem to know how to sing anything other than songs of the ilk they sang last night though. I want to see both of them just break loose and sing! I enjoyed watching Josh tonight, too.

The judges all tell them they need to stretch their limits, push the envelope a bit. It appears that when one of them tries it--they get shot down e.g., Kim C. for example (although it just shows she's not got the pipes of some of the others).

What was up with Randy last night? Did he and Simon decide it was time for someone else to be the "bad" judge? I was very surprised to hear Simon telling Clay & Ruben they were "excellent" or "brilliant" and Carmen was was "dreadful". It's just a bit odd to me how 3 of the 4 always like the same performers while the 4th disses the performances. It all seems way too contrived.

I'll be anxious to see what happens tonight. Hopefully they won't steal an hour from me this evening as they did last night. The TV Guide says 1/2 hour--we'll see. . .

I missed Clays song.

Does anyone else think that Josh is trying to be too Garth Brookish? I like him and his voice is good though.

Kim Locke She has a great voice but she needs to pick different songs

My daughter thought Kim C and Carmen should of done each others songs.... i agree

Treynece- there 's just something i don't care for with her... since day 1 nothing to do with her criminal history

Ricky .. he did ok nothing great

Reeeebbbuuuunnn..... he is a master of his voice and will probably not win because of his size but should because of his talent.

Has anyone else noticed that the majority of them are doing ballads continueally? Why don't they pick up the beat a bit!

Josh is such a sweetie and I'm so happy to see he picked an appropriate song and just ran with it. I don't think he will win this show but I can bet that Nashville is fighting over him as we speak.

Ruben...I about passed out when I saw him in some normal, well fitted clothes. Did you notice when they did the Billboard tour he wasn't wearing any 205 either?! I wonder if something has been said or strongly advised against wearing anymore 205?

Clay...Still like him but he needs to break the mold he's created. I feel like he's singing the same type of song every week. He needs to just wow us with his choice.

Carmen...I didn't like her song choice but at least she picked a more upbeat song than everyone else. Maybe she should have tried a Christina or Brittney song! I'm afraid she's gone tonight but I would much rather it be Kim.

Tyrenyce...I was more impressed with her at the start of the competition. She's losing my interest right now.

Rickey...I can only say that I agree wholeheartedly with GoofieRuthie.

The two Kims...didn't do anything for me, but I seem to be in the minority, at least with Kim L.

They better not drag this out another hour. I probably won't tune in until the last 10 minutes anyhow. Too much fluff and it's no Friday DIS board!!!

Was not impressed with Ruben last night. I was very impressed with Clay. Thought Josh and Kim L did a very nice job.

Trenyce needs to stop winking at the camera during her performances.

Time for Kim C, Ricky or Carmen to be gone.

Personally, I didn't think Carmen was as bad as Simon thought.

This guy should win,he's wicked good. Clay can sing, but he sounds the same every week. Blonde Kim has the "package "but not the pipes.

Oh this is hard to write..........but I was bored with Ruben and Clay. They're my top two picks (with Clay getting the edge), but I'd like them both to do something different next week. Kim C. and and Carmen are definitely my bottom picks. It was painful watching both of them (and listening!). I'm having trouble picking my third for the bottom 3. I really like Trenyce and Kim L. Rickey did much better last night I thought. I guess I'd pick Josh. He did MUCH better than last week, but I thought he was trying to be too Garth-ish like someone mentioned above. Just my two cents!

My 3 favorites of the night were Josh, Reuben, and Clay! I enjoyed each one of them immensely. The rest were so-so. I'm hoping it comes down to these guys in the end - the girls did not impress me last night.

That Ruben and Clay, in particular, are very carefully playing the game? By that I mean--they aren't showing us all of their cards until they absolutely have to pull out all the stops. Let's face it, these two have to know they are the odds on favorites based upon judges' and audience feedback. Perhaps they feel it's in their best interests to do what they do best, sit back, and watch the others fall around them. Then, when it comes down to clinch time, they have to show more.

Another thought I have on this whole thing is why should they sing songs outside of the genre that fits their voices best. Most "pop" artists sing one type of song. Yeah, they venture into other realms, occasionally. For the most part however, Britney sings her "technosexpop", Christina does her "sexed up soulful songs", The Boy Bands perform their major dance moves with some "lovey dovey romantic" songs coupled with "she's hot pop", Aerosmith does some great "head bangin' rock" and even the ballads have a rockin' edge, Garth does "country" with the occasional cross-over hit, and on and on. . . Do you see what I'm sayin' here? I guess I don't think an "American Idol" has to necessarily be a 'pop' idol--why not a blues person, broadway stylist, balladeer, rocker, country singer. . . ?

Frankly, I don't see Luther VanDross (comparison to Ruben made before here) out there rockin' nor do I see Clay as a Steven Tyler wanna' be. What's wrong with an artist that does what he/she does best and sticking with it. Wasn't it the judges (Simon in particular) that said they needed to find a focus (the Josh statement about being confused re: rock or country). In fact, I think that's our whole issue with some of the singers--they aren't unique because they sound like someone else--no personal style.

Just some random thoughts--what do you all think?

I'm also disappointed that neither Ruben or Clay (my two favs) have really stepped up to the plate and batted a home run lately. They were good last night, not great and they are beginning to sound the same from week to week. They need to add to their range a bit.

Did not like Kimberly L as much as the judges - she is no Celine Dion and should have picked a different song.

I thought both Ricky and Trenyce showed great improvement and that Josh redeemed himself.

Carmen and Kimberly C struggled.

My bottom three: Carmen, Kimberly C and Trenyce (just because so many don't seem to like her or her criminal record). But, I've been wrong every week!

Get rid of Trenyce!!! She was horrible. Carmen and Kim C. also belong in the bottom three. I agreed with everything that Simon said last night, except that Clay did the same thing again. I love his voice but he needs to do something different. I can't stand Kim L. either, but unfortunately she wasn't booted early on when she could have been, now she's going to last awhile. Ruben definitely should win.

I think Ruben is great & should win but his song choices are getting a little repetitive like, the same type of Motownish music. I liked Clay, but there is just something about him (kinda Barry Manilowish to me, not that there's anything wrong with that). I thought Trenyce sounded beautiful last night.

I'm not crazy about Kim, Kim or Carmen & Josh was just okay.

I'm still undecided about Ricky, not sure I like that high pitched voice.

Worst: I've never been crazy about Carmen, but she can do a good job when she picks a country/pop kind of song that showcases her voice. Maybe a Fleetwood Mac song? NOT a Blondie song!!!! She's an alto, not a soprano. It was just AWFUL. Even Simon, her benefactor, said it was dreadful and that's the first time he's said anything bad about her.

Second Worst: Kimberly Caldwell is really starting to grate on my nerves too. She's a camera hog with a pretty face and an incredibly small vocal range. Even so, she has done okay in the past. Why in the world would she pick a Bryan Adams song?!!!

Third Worst: Trenyce! I used to think that she had "it," but she seems to just be screaming at the top of her lungs now.

Best: Ruben is so smooth and easy. Every week he picks a different kind of song and a different sound, and he makes it his own. He looked so nice last night too. I'm glad to see him trying to pull off a different look.

Second Best: Josh was certainly back to form. Although it's a country-specific sound, I think he'll come out of this with a country recording contract, even if he doesn't win the competition. I rank him above Clay this week. It hurts, because Clay has been my favorite.

Third Best: I hate that song that Clay sung and always have. Unfortunately, he didn't do anything to spice it up for me either. He needs to take a risk. Move around a little. Sing something other than a ballad. It's time to step up his game.

Rickey and Kimberly L. were "OK." Not the best. Not the worst. I think they'll be safe.

I think that a "blonde" will go tonight.

:smooth:

Wow, I'm surprised to see that so many people didn't like Trenyce's performance (regardless of what you think of her brush with the law). I thought she had one of the best performances of the night! I love that song, and I think she did a great job with it.

I love Clay's voice, but it seems like he's singing "same song, different words" every week.

Not at all impressed with Rickey. Hated Kim C's performance, and thought Carmen's was just slightly better.

I'm a fan of Kim L, but she didn't really "do it for me" last night.

Thought Josh "redeemed himself" somewhat after last week's horrid performance, but he still didn't blow me away.

LOVED Ruben's performance, and I was sooooo happy to see him wearing something other than a 205 shirt! I hope he continues to wear other things, and doesn't go right back to it again.

Does anyone else think that Ryan S has sort of created an unfair advantage for Ruben, with his "Roooooooooben Studdaaaaaaard" chant every week? That's been bugging me for a while. I love Ruben's voice -- he's definitely my top pick, but it almost seems like Ryan has turned Ruben into some kind of "cult hero" by getting the whole audience to chant his name that way. KWIM? I also noticed that last night, he barely did it, which makes me wonder if someone said something to him about it, so he tried not to do it, but then almost "slipped up" and did it anyway when introducing Ruben. Does this make sense to anyone? Maybe I'm over-analyzing!

I agree 100%! I've been wondering what the big fuss is about each of them singing what they do best. I do feel that Clay and Ruben need to step it up a bit though. They have great voices but they need to work on stage performance. I don't think I'd want to pay good money to see a show where the singer just stands in one spots moving his hand to and from his heart the whole time. I know the original version of the show IS Pop Idol. Is that what this is supposed to be. I don't think American equates Pop. I happen to loathe pop music, but to each his own.

AMEN!! I have been griping about this each week. It is so obvious who the judges and Ryans favorites are. I don't think it's fair. They have a right to have a favorite, but I don't think they should let it influence the audience.

Now......I don't know why, but even when Simon is being mean, I find him so darn adorable. I like when he's straight forward and not all fluff like Paula. She makes me wanna puke.

Here are my thoughts:

Clay--he has been my favorite all along and still is, but I think he really needs to branch out a bit and spice up his performances; I think he's got "it", he just needs to show it off

Kim L.--I thought she did a good job with a difficult song; her voice is nice and sultry, but I'm not sure she's star material for some reason

Ricky--I think his voice is much nicer when he doesn't sing at the very top of his range; when he sings so high it's too nasal for me

Kim C.--I didn't think she did well at all; I think she will be in the bottom 3 and might be the one to get "the boot"

Carmen--she really can't compete with the others; she needs to develop her voice more before competing like this; I think she will also be in the bottom 3

Ruben--I was so happy to see him not wearing a 205 shirt! he did very well, but I think he needs to spice things up too (same as Clay does)

Trenyce--I thought she started off well, but then she missed 2 of the high notes; she's just allright, IMHO

Josh--he picked a song that suited his voice very well; I'm just not sure how well country fits with American Idol; he seems like a GREAT guy though

I'm kind of a late comer to all this American Idol stuff, but it occurs to me that, just like a beauty pagent, it takes more than one aspect to be a winner. In other words, aren't we suppose to be looking at the total package and not just the voice? Some of the biggest American Idols (Cher as an example) have had some of the worst voices, but were original in their total performance.

What is an "American Idol"? From what I've seen, I don't think any of these match the description. They all appear too manufactured and not original enough. Maybe that's all you can expect in this forum though.

I have to agree that none of these performers jump out at me. They all seem to be of the caliber that you would find performing at WDW. They are all talented and it takes a lot of guts to stand up there and sing, but they are all a bit too polished ... nothing too spontaneous or risky. Not enough originality.

Yes, seeing them "perform" the same each week gets a bit old.

Is it Carmen that sang the Debra Harry song? Carmen looks like a little china doll and the voice I heard did not seem to match up with what was on my TV screen.

I guess she'd be the one I'd vote off based on what I saw last night.
