American Idol Top 4 Idol Chatter and Idle Chatter

:

In 4 hours I managed to get through maybe 50 times and I was on the West Coast. Adam fans has loads of problems getting through. We kept getting dead air, or no message, or a busy signal. There's got to be a better way than forcing that kind of frustration and time waste on fans .

However, let's not take anything away from Kris. His sales are doing extremely well and that speaks louder than any votes. From today's reports:

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert have nine combined tracks on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. Week Ending 05/24/09:

Tataina

First off, I think the busy lines are based on where you are calling in from. Land line phones are routed through different switches. I live in MD, when I call out on my Verizon line it will not just go to a phone line in California to be counted. I have no idea how the phone companies (not just ATT who is only associated with the texting) route all those calls, but it stands to reason that some areas will be overloaded while others wont. The AK people had to compete with the East Coast and Central time zones all at the same time. Therefore AK actually was at a much bigger disadvantage than say California who had three of their hours completely to share with the sparce west area. Although CA is high in population the rest of the west time zone is not. However the East with the Northeast, Washington DC area, Carolina all the way down to Florida had to compete with the Central time zone who saw the show at the same time. So clearly Kris was at a disadvantage if we are going by local boy areas.

I called for 4 hours straight for Kris. I got through 21 times in 2.5 hours. At about 11:45 EST the lines opened up and got through every time until 1am. I also got lots of dead air and a ton of fast busy signals which meant I wasn't even getting into the switch with the actual phone numbers. I hated those when you think you got through but never heard the "thanks for voting". I hated hanging up!

And I cannot believe you posted those ITunes figures. I could have sworn that the die hard Adam fans are convinced that Kris is another Rueben or Taylor and Kris can't possibly be doing that well on the charts to actually have more purchases than Adam. It just has to be a system flaw those numbers.... Time will tell, but I think people are making a big mistake to think Kris will be a flop. He has to find his niche and I think he will be successful. Adam will also be and I wish them both great success. You definitely can't fault either one of these boys. They have both been extremely classy guys!

Remember that those numbers are just from last week and don't include anything sold before that. Winning is important. At least in the short term.

I think that a lot of people don't even vote because they figure there is no point when some people are voting 1000 times. If everyone was allowed only a certain number, it would probably encourage others to actually vote.

Yeah that's why I vote in general elections  because my one vote counts. That's the system that is really flawed!!

I totally disagree because the only way Adam could have won was if people were allowed to vote more than once. Do you really believe that everybody liked Adam. God bless him, but he is wayyyyyy out there. I did not enjoy looking at him or at the end even listening to him. His fan base was way smaller than some of the other bases, but I believe he had die hard fans and they called avidly to keep him in. When it gets to the final two the one who is "out there" is always at a disadvantage.

I think Adam did a great job of staying true to himself and I think he might have had a better shot at beating Danny, but I still say that Danny and Kris are more mainstream and therefore are always at an advantage whether it is one vote per person or not. They just appeal to a larger base. Sorry!

Didn't you say you lived in Canada? I thought you weren't allowed to vote at all. :confused3

I had posted a couple times that any Canadians who wanted to vote could download Gizmo5 - make the home country USA - and vote. My opinion is, since the show was broadcast here, darn right we should be allowed to vote too.

I think CmBar's observations about how you vote determining how sucessfully you got through are very good. I think text messages and land lines got priority over VOIP. Like Cmbar, I got lots of dead air, lots of fast busy signals and lots of getting through where thephone was picked up but I never heard: "thanks for voting for Contestant 1". I got through all the time in the last 30 minutes but seldom before that. I won't waste time voting next year unless there's another Adam.

Adam has said the very same thing in interviews. About Danny - according to Howard Benson, who has worked with Chris Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson, he doesn't think Gokey has a future in the industry.

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1612120/20090526/story.jhtml

"Howard Benson, who has worked with Chris Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson, doesn't think Gokey has a future in the industry. "The hardest record to make is Gokey's record, which is why I don't think he's going to make one," Benson told MTV News. "It would be very tough to make a record with him.

"I don't think he established who he was at all," Benson continued, citing a prevailing worry among record execs. "He has this great, soulful voice. But he dresses like some guy that's in a bar somewhere. He doesn't look the part."

Benson is much more confident — and excited — about Iraheta's prospects. "I think she's an easy record to make," he said, suggesting she might benefit from forming a band, as Daughtry did. "I think you could get all the great rock writers and you make a kickass album with her that's a great active rock record that crosses into hot AC [adult contemporary] with the softer stuff. I think it's probably the easiest record to make out of all of them. In some ways it reminds me of Chris.

"I think she was the greatest gainer [over the course of the season]," Benson continued. "I would love to work with her. I think I could make a huge record with that girl."

One other artist in whom Benson sees potential is tattooed crooner Megan Joy. "There was something about her," he said, before adding, "She kind of spun out of control a little bit at the end.

Not sure what you mean by your first line since I live in Canada and my vote counts in our elections.

Actually, I said that I figured Kris would win and was speaking in generalized terms for each season. I don't think changing the voting would have changed the results of this season, as I said before. I do however, think more people would vote if the voting was limited. There would be a better cross section of voting.

I think Kris was the only contestant that could have beaten Adam.

As for the wayyyyyyyy out there. I know several young people just like Adam but without the talent. I don't think he is way out there at all. I think the "boy next door" is looking more and more like Adam Lambert.

Danny might have a career just won't be mainstream, he'll go Ruben, Phil Stacey, Mandisa's route and do Gospel/Christian

Danny said he doesn't want to do Christian. He wants to go mainstream with a latin vibe.

"I can just be a Christian who sings mainstream music instead of having to be a Christian who has to somehow just sing Christian music," he said.

Where HAVE you been????

Watching videos of Adam! duh ;)

So, now that I know Kris Allen hasn't REALLY won, I declare Adam to be the winner in my own little world :p

And now I find that I could've voted for Adam? Man, I would've voted like 46 million times. :)

This whole unfair voting uproar is annoying as all get out! I like Adam and Kris and I think it does a disservice to both to continue this ridiculous argument. Arkansas did not cast 38 million votes. That has been debunked. Kris' fanbase was not the only one that knew how to text and send out 10 at a time and use "go phones". Adam and Danny fansites promoted the exact same things! How is it wrong now just because Kris won?

Adam was definitely a "love him or hate him" contestant. That never bodes well in a voting setting. Think about politicians--the polarizing candidate rarely wins an election. Kris appealed to more people even if he didn't attract the rabid fanbase that some people on here are looking for. He is selling well on Itunes-just like Adam.

Every year the contestant with the most votes wins and every year there are complaints. There can only be one winner and every viewer is not going to be happy with the results. Unfortunately this year the judges' favorite and media darling didn't win so it's now being brought up about the multiple voting and texts?

What she said. :thumbsup2

I'm honestly sick of the whole voting drama. What's done is done and we can't go back in time and change it. Both of the guys are talented in their own ways, if 19e didn't think they were talented they wouldn't be giving the top 4 record deals. Each of them appeals to a different type of musical taste. You can't really tell who will do good and who won't in the industry anymore. It's changing to much to fast. Adam and Kris are going to do their own things, remain friends and appeal to their own fan base.

what she said too!

Just think, what if Adam had never made it to the top ten? Then his name wouldn't even be out there anymore. NOT winning Idol is not the kiss of death for him. I just hope that all those people that have been praising him all over the place put their money where their mouths are...***DISCLAIMER: THIS COMMENT IS NOT AIMED AT ANYONE HERE AND IS NOT TO BE TAKEN PERSONALLY, IT IS A "PEOPLE" IN GENERAL*** and buy his music when it comes out. I hope they continue to support him if the stuff he does is more "tracks of my tears" then his rock god stuff.

I personally would buy a CD of his if he did more Tracks type music or even Broadway tunes. Some of the songs I've watched on Youtube were really good.

You had me to right about there! If this guy sees Meghan as a potential then he is whacked. Daughtry has a niche for sure. I don't listen to Daughtry, don't care to listen because I don't like his music. He has done well in that genre. Kelly simply did well because she was number one and was in the pop genre. Carrie smashed the Country music world with outdoing everything possible that could be done. So each of them had a niche. I tend to agree that Allison and Adam will do well in their niche. Kris will do well in crossover pop but Danny will struggle to identify himself. But once he does, he has the good to do well. He is a hard worker, competitor and has a really great voice. He alse felt the music more than the others. At least I felt that he felt it. That makes a difference too.

:rotfl: Michael Slezak says something to that affect in the final Idolatry round-up. The way Ryan introduced the finale as "The Guy Next Door" versus "The Guyliner" begs the question: Why is Adam NOT the guy next door? As Michael then says: "it's because the guy next door couldn't possibly be gay! Your next door neighbour cannot POSSIBLY be THAT!". :lmao: :lmao:

What she said. :thumbsup2

I downloaded both of Adam's versions of Mad World. :thumbsup2 I still stand by the one vote per phone line. It doesn't matter which season, I just think it is the most accurate, fair way to vote. Can you imagine if we elected a president by texting 2000 times in 4 hours? :rotfl:

And no, I did not vote. There was no way I was going to spend 4 hours voting when other people have hundreds of votes. If it was just one vote per phone, it would have been worth it to me.

But Kris is the winner and he deserves to be able to feel proud for it. I'm sure his fans will support him the way we are supporting Adam. :goodvibes It's a win-win.

Do they expect a complete recovery?

Little Adam quote I heard that I thought was funny.

A Revlon spokesperson said, "We believe he will be the hip new face that would appeal to the young and fabulous and artistic emo boys alike." Several church groups are calling for a boycott of American Idol and Revlon. One Alabama pastor was quoted as saying, "If we allow our young people to idolize this man, he will turn them all homosexual and our country will die out in a generation or two!"

When sought for response by reporters, Lambert said, "Oh honey, I ain’t that good!"

:sad2:

Yeesh.

Just Yeesh.

Some church groups are such bloomin' hypocrites...... :sad2:

:lmao: OMG, that is the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. :confused3 I have more that I could put, but I may turn it into a post that isn't allowed, so I will refrain. But I will say, man that would be some kind of power.

He WOULD be the next Elvis... worshiped like some sort of god or something..... :lmao:

Aaahh.....Eeewww.

You must've missed the first few episodes because he did do his "signature" crotch grab...so not appropriate for a family show.

And I'm sorry to say that I believe that adorning ones crotch with shiny zippers is the young mans equivalent of a middle aged guy buying a sports car

Well... there was a heavy metal band who used to have a saw coming out of the crotch area and one time even accidentally scorched the area when pyrotechnics went awry.... Sounds like a band who were aiming for Darwin Awards....

I agree with all of this, especially that they tried to get rid of Kris on Top 4 night. They were really hoping Allison would knock Kris off. You could see that by them introducing the new "duets" on ROCK night, yeah! It was really bad. They were really hoping for Allison to get through that. But she didn't because she was in direct competition with Adam fans. They appealed to the same crowd and the Adam fans had been scared the week before by Adam landing in the bottom two.

The reason for the duets had nothing to do with trying to "get ride of Kris" It was because they couldn't fit 8 songs in the hour show like they used to do for the top 4. They barely fit the 6 in that were sung that night.

And Kris probably has Adam's fans to thank for making it as far as the finals. Plenty of times during the season people vote split in an effort to keep Kris on the show. Dial Idol scared them, so they voted for Kris in addition to or instead of Adam.

:rotfl: Michael Slezak says something to that affect in the final Idolatry round-up. As Michael then says: "it's because the guy next door couldn't possibly be gay! Your next door neighbour cannot POSSIBLY be THAT!". :lmao: :lmao:

Around here, most guys do not look like Adam. I know plenty of gay people and some of them have their own thing going on but not so glam as Adam is. Adam stood out because he is NOT the norm in America. I don't get why people think he was voted against because he's gay. I don't care about someone's sexuality as long as they are good. I also don't care if someone is gay in real life. I'm for equal rights for everyone (another topic for another time) and find it a bit insulting that people (not you, just people in general) think that I am homophobic because I didn't care much for Adam. I don't care for his music. I'm sure he is a delightful person and he seems to be a fun guy.

People just need to accept that Adam is NOT mainstream. Elton John, an openly gay man, is one of the most celebrated musicians of all time. That obviously hasn't stopped people from buying his music. Know why? Because Tiny Dancer, Your Song and Candle in the Wind (one of the best songs EVER, IMO) are a heck of a lot more mainstream than Adam's style of music.

I don't think the results are skewed or fake and I don't think Adam "really" won. Kris won and that's all there is to it. If the situation were reversed I would move on and accept that more people voted for him than Kris.

The only place Adam touched himself during AI was down the side of his abdomen. The Bible Belt would have had a meltdown if it was anything more risque. :scared:
I can never figure out why American viewers are OK with seeing tons of gruesome murders, serial killing, rape, torture etc. on 100s of evening TV shows, yet they freak when any nudity or sexually sugestive behaviour is shown. I'd rather see Adam's video on repeat loop than seeing people get shot, thrown off a buildings, carved up, poisoned, etc.

TOTALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yippee for the person who says her news has cleaned up and doesn't show all these things anymore. It's ont just the news. It's the whole culture of celebrating murder in it's many forms (CSI to SAW). Blech.

:lmao:
I love Adam, but I have to agree... I think there was some enhancement going on! :rotfl2:

Definitely. Cotton balls?

:rotfl2:
