Quick thoughts -
Paula is overpaid

David C is amazing (duh)

Jason - Starting to feel like he's doing this show as a dare from his friends

David A - no no no, that was all so terribly wrong.

I liked David Cook and Brookes second song. Everything else was blah to me
And Paula is just way out there.

Paula was hysterical :happytv: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2: :happytv:

Jason- I didn't think it was so bad. It was just what I kind of expect from him for now. He is just biding his time until he gets voted off and can do the music he likes.

Brooke- I thought the first song was ok. She is trying to stay in this and she picked a well-known song. Not too dumb.....her second song was better, definitely agree with Randy that that is her niche.

David C- I thought he sounded not quite right on the first song, like his voice was all scratchy from a cold or something. I liked the arrangement though, his were the only songs of the night that sounded contemporary and something that could be on the radio. His second song was great. I think in his case it helped to pick lesser known songs.

David A- Wow, he just pushed me over the top tonight with America. This kid (well his father) is pulling out every trick in the book. I really cannot stand it anymore, he needs to go. He is a nice singer, just not ready to be an American Idol.

Sayesha- She looked beautiful and sounded great. That said, I didn't like her songs, and agree they are old-fashioned. I think she is playing for the Broadway vote and hopefully some Broadway producers are watching because she would be fantastic there.

:worship: :rotfl2: :lmao:

WAAAAAAY overPAID!!! :lmao: Considering she's a better dancer than she'll EVER be a singer.. she needs to pass the job on to a real singer.

No review of Brooke and Sy, ckay??? Or did we ALL forget about them??:rotfl2:

Who?:confused3 :confused3

 No, I do have a new respect for Syesha (THAT took me a while) and I don't completely hate her anymore. She's not AS boring anymore. I was PEEVED that she was doing Hello Again, but it wasn't terrible. In fact she changed it up a little and it was good.

And I've been a Brooke fan for a long time. I DESPISED her first song (Simon was right) and loved her second. I just love Brooke at the piano - she should never stand up:rotfl:

What a night!

Paula's "flub....I'm guessing that since the judges sit through the rehearsal, she already had notes scribbled down about the songs (particularly since they were doing that weird judge-them-all-together thing after the first round). So that half-baked whack-job started reading ALL her notes.

Speaking of which, I HATED them judging them at warp speed all together at the end of round 1. It was like watching a firing squad! Just painful. 10 songs is too much for a one hour show. They should've either extended the show or cut down to one song with filler.

The contestents:

Jason: That was an abomination. I 've never seen a more disconnected and disinterested performer or performance. I have never gotten the vibe from him that he cares tht he's on the show or really even wants to be there (or possibly even KNOWS where he is...maybe he and Paula have the same "friends"). Both songs were painful to listen to and watch.

David C: His first song started out weak but as always finished strong. He looked terrific! Song number two was concert quality, and he could make a mint selling that single right now.

Brooke: She looked terrified during song number one. Total deer-in-the-headlights. I honestly thought she might vomit at any moment...plus she was just plain lousy as far as the performance goes. Song two was better, since she could hide behind the piano, but I still thought it was goddawful.

David A: Both songs sounded just like one another which in turn sounded like every other pageanty song he's belted. He sang well, but who cares? Oh, and PS..."America" is NOT supposed to be an upbeat pop type song. It's one of my favorite songs and he just didn't do it justice at all.

Syesha: Song one was really really good! I ike the softer look she had. Song number two fell flat for me. It's a shame too since I think she might've been keptout of the bottom if she nailed her second song.

Best:
David C

Didn't suck eggs:
David A
Syesha

Bottom of the food chain:
Brooke
Jason

Going home...who knows. I'd liek to see either of my bottom two O-U-T!

David A might be annoying, but his voice is one of the best in the competition. I agree with Neil Diamond in that he is a prodigy. I can't wait 'til the competition is over to see what the Clive Davis types do with him. With the right songwriters, producers, etc., David A has the potential to be great. But that's JMO.

Really? Most prodigies lose their luster as they age into their skills, and then beyond their skills. I have a feeling that David A will fit this mold. I expect to see him singing the lead at some show at WDW in five or six years.

Sigh...David Cook! I can't wait until he puts out a CD!! He's the only other contestant (besides Chris Daughtry) that I really loved hearing. I absolutely LOVE his voice and the arrangements he sings. I'm still undecided though if I want him to actually win and be stuck with the Idol contract.

As for the rest...ugh, I'm really not a fan of any of them. Syesha has been doing very well and I think she really has found her niche with the Broadway stuff.

Jason Castro acts like such a stoner that I can't get past it. I loved his "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" number, but that was about it.

I used to love Brooke White, of course that was before the whole instability thing kicked in.

And last but not least...David Archuleta. Eeek! :scared1: I really don't understand the hype w/ him. All of his songs sound exactly the same and I'm not entertained by any of them. He has a voice, but he really lacks charisma and personality. I'd love to see him get the boot, but think he'll be in the final two w/ David Cook.

My first thought on Paula last night...SCRIPTED!!!!

You could see the look of shock in everyone's eyes. They were thinking, "WTH is she doing?".

I did think it was kind of mean of Ryan to point out that Brooke had the one lyric written on her hand. Noone made a big deal about it the night(s) that she goofed, why rub her nose in it now?

The Brooke thing was scripted. They did the exact same thing in the rehersal. People who were at the rehersal talked about it. It wasn't about rubbing her nose in it but getting sympathy votes.

David A: Both songs sounded just like one another which in turn sounded like every other pageanty song he's belted. He sang well, but who cares? Oh, and PS..."America" is NOT supposed to be an upbeat pop type song. It's one of my favorite songs and he just didn't do it justice at all.

Thank you! Through his entire *rendition* of that song I sat there saying "no no no that is WRONG." And it is beyond me why not one judge had anything negative to say about that performance. It is a ROCK song from start to finish and there is no other way to sing it without sounding entirely dopey. I do NOT think the sun rises and sets on David A as the judges seem to.

After Paula's BLUNDER last night, I have lost what little respect I had for the show.

I hope Jason gets out of there tonight, he's a lot better off without Idol.

WHAT A JOKE!!!

I'm not sure Paula's blunder really reflects on the show, overall, much. The singers sing. That's real. That's all that needs to be real.

At least you had a little respect to LOSE!!! Mine has BEEN gone but goes below zero every time Randy calls David A "the bomb", Paula rambles insaniities, Simon rails some people and makes excuses for others and SYESHA IS STILL THERE...???? :confused3 and Michael and Carly are GONE? :scared:

To tell the truth I was a little shocked...nay offended when Paula called David A "my little savant". I KNOW what the word really means, but right out of the gate it conjured up images of Rain Man.

Here are Paula's comments about last night from the Insider:

Just in: PAULA ABDUL talks exclusively to "The Insider" about her misunderstanding on Tuesday night's "American Idol" performance show!

Discussing the small slip of the tongue she experienced while assessing finalist JASON CASTRO's first performance, Paula explains: "It got very confusing ... the producers come up to us in the dark and said, 'We are not going to have you guys judge after each performer, we are going to have all the performers go once, then twice and at the end critique them.'"

Surprised by the last minute switch in judging procedures, Paula recounts, "I am feverishly trying to write notes for every performance."

And when host RYAN SEACREST asked the judges to quickly sum up the performances, Paula explains that she was trying organize her notes, saying, "I was trying to give my critique for Jason Castro, and scribbled Jason's name, and that was DAVID [COOK]'s! ... We all just screwed up everything." She adds with a laugh: "This is live television. This is fun!"

She really needs to make up a better excuse. Her critique of Jason's second song was very negative. How could she have been reading what she wrote about David Cook? Her critique of him was positive????? :confused3

Yep, she's totally lying. I watched it again and after she was corrected, she said (exact quote): "....really? I thought you sang twice." So she wasn't reading the wrong set of notes, she "thought" he "sang twice."

I thought that was a fairly simple exercise in note-taking. My 5th grader can do it for American history, a grown woman should be able to do it for 5 songs.

I think she DID take hre notes...just on the dress rehearsal, and was reading her pre-written notes from then. Still a blunder and will likely cause Idol to no longer be "live" in the future.

The whole show was just a mess last night. The producers and director need to be smacked.

That was what I said too, she said his second perfomance lacked charm and charisma, then she says wait that's Davids notes, then she tells David his fantastic?!?!?!
