American Idol Season 13 Official Thread

Who's keeping Sam and Alex there? IMO, they both should have been gone long ago.

I agree. I see both of them as filler. Honestly, I don't wait for anyone's song at this point but Caleb. And even then I'm just okay. Not because of talent - he's extremely talented. There is just something that I'm tiring of with him - don't know. I think Jena is most hungry to win but it's not a *must see* for me regardless. It's been quite the season.

We don't have Canadian Idol anymore. But there is a band called Hedley. It's lead singer Jacob Hoggard was top three in one of our years. Every week you were on the absolute edge of your seat, just waiting for his turn. Always a show.

Many were the same for me re: American Idol of course. I was thinking about Chris Daughtry the other night and I do agree with the poster that said that maybe the age limit shouldn't have been lowered. I do indeed prefer singers with life experience in them. Of course there is always the exception, an old soul etc but older often works better for me.

ewwwwwwww. Jacob Hoggard. Just yuck. Couldn't stand him then. Can't stand him now. I wonder what Ryan Seacrest would think if one of the contestants stuck their finger in their mouth and then put it in Ryan's ear like Jacob did to Ben Mulroney?

I like his style of music/singing but never have been blown away or overly intrigued.

What is it for you? Just a je ne sais quoi feeling about him?

He's got his own sense of style. I don't even like many of the songs he has chosen to sing, but his voice is unique and you just never know where he's going to go with the notes he sings. I find him mesmerizing. And his look is growing on me too.

Dare I say, he's a bit sexy to me? :scared1:

Boy you're easy on a dare. ;) And then there's the weather boy.

I do think he's unique. :thumbsup2

His look is bringing you back to Maple Leaf Gardens circa a long time ago. ;) I'm going Flock of Seagulls, Thompson Twins or Tears For Fears. :rotfl:

I wasn't going with the yuck factor. I was going with the singing/show.

I wonder. ;)

I never thought of this until now, but Alex does remind me a bit of the leads of all those bands.

Btw.......Flock of Seagulls - Danforth Music Hall - circa 82/83 - good show :jumping1:

Pick Up Sticks for the Top Six!

There's a 1 in 20 chance of winning AI after this week and with the Donny and Marie themed show on offer, who'll be marching on with their drum sticks next week?

Sadly, I'm behind the beat and even though the results are known, here's my take on the lil' bit of country and a little bit of rock and roll show tonight.

Jena/Gina The Wildcard

I really thought Barracuda was more a Guitar Hero song than SingStar.
Having said that, I thought this was a Wild vocal ride tonight. But I'd really like to see her sing this in a couple of years when she’s more comfortable in her skin and she cuts loose.
From the Barracuda to the Small. Nothing small about her voice. She's definitely a wild card for me.

Sam The Heartthrob

No heart in the pop 'rock' song for me. It's Time Sam. If not this week, then definitely maybe next week.....

....But wait....there is a heartbeat throb with your country side. You might have redeemed yourself with Still the One. Just. Only just.

Alex The Troubadour

Go geeky foot tapping into that inner Animal, Alex. Uh Oh....you need to do more than tap that foot in rock n roll!

All I can say is thank goodness you had second chance in the soft country side to keep You Always on our Minds.

CJ The Roots Rocker

You may have sang in tune tonight for the American Woman song but you're really not a rocker.
.....And you're back to offkey in the country. Whatever It Is, your sharps and flats are definitely not It.

CJ, I think you’re 'roo-ted'. (Can I say that on the Dis??)

Caleb The Hard Rocker

Give me a moment whilst I savour his moment.

No surprises in the rock section from Caleb. It’s almost an unfair advantage....

....which balanced out the country side. The country is meant to be all about fresh air and being able to breathe. You're not meant to rock the heck out of a Carrie Underwood song. It’s all hard igneous rock from Caleb.

Jessica The Rebel

This somebody is over loving you, Jessica. You sing pretty well; but you just don't connect with me.....

....And it was the same again in the countryside. Well sung but no connection.

ps. I miss me some Adam Lambert and Bo Bice as well.

:thumbsup2 Agree again...especially the last line!! :cheer2:

Who's keeping Sam and Alex there? IMO, they both should have been gone long ago. Everyone loves Caleb, but I was kind of disappointed that his Country song wasn't more "country" and not as "rock-y". Each week I like Jena more and more. I just wish she'd do something about those bangs.

I didn't think she was attractive till she wore the bangs! Love them!

Every one has their own taste. I think Sam and Alex can sing circles around Caleb and especially Jena. I am not saying that Caleb and Jena are horrible singers to everyone but they are to me. I can't stand singers who try to pass shouting off as music. I understand that some people like to hear that, just not me.

The one thing that I get so tired of is when fans of one type of music keep insisting that only singers who sing in their preferred style can sing. To me it seems like fans of big belters always try to say that someone can't sing if they aren't belting it out. That is so not true! It is just a different style.

I am voting to keep Sam in the competition. I have zero interest in a show with only Caleb and Jena. Just my taste, doesn't have to be yours.

The only ones I've seen even suggest that are the ones who hate "screaming" and they say it a LOT.

I don't care for Sam but I know he can sing. I actually think Alex is VERY talented just not my style. I literally GAG at Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry but they CAN sing.

On the other hand, my favorite performers of all time are Tom Jones and James Brown. Do they scream? Hell Yeah. It may not be something someone wants to hear but it doesn't take away from the entertainment value to the listener...who's preference is ONLY theirs.

My Mom and I had this argument the entire time she was alive. Her favorite singers were Perry Como and Don Ho.:crazy2::crazy2: Imagine the two of us in a car for a 17 hour drive to NY:lmao:

I don't mean to imply that they can't sing. I know some people like that style. I think that I have read too many of the posts on MJ and Slezak's sites. Those folks are like a broken record about only belters being able to sing. I don't want to sound like them so sorry if I offended. I also think there is a world of difference between someone who can sing loud with a full voice vs one that sounds shrill to me. I think Tom Jones and James Brown ( to a lesser degree) come closer to that.

I don't know all of the technical terms so I am probably not stating this right. I think Sam has a beautiful voice and I hope either he or Alex wins.

I have voted for both Sam and Alex every week. I like the way they sound and that is the kind of music I will listen to. I did not vote for Caleb this week..I am over the rock star sound. I think he is a great showman and could front a band right now. I just would never listen to him on a regular basis and would never buy anything he recorded.

Jena reminds me a Katy Perry (which I've said a lot on here) and I love the bangs on her.

Raising my hand and lowering my head in shame at the same time. :duck:

I just realized I did it again in my last post with Caleb and I actually like his voice and he doesn't really scream...he is just loud. LOL.

Tom Jones  I actually saw him and Englebert in concert together. That was interesting. Tom all tight pants and gyrating and Engie baby all prim and proper.

I also like listening to Perry Como..but not for any length of time...I lump him in with Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra when I'm playing that music.

See, to me Alex is the "shrill" one still left in the competition. I think he consistently sings sharp, ESPECIALLY on higher notes. But again, I cannot stand that particular genre of music, so that taints my opinion somewhat.

Sam I believe has far & away the most raw potential. His voice is phenomenal & if he can figure out how to inject some emotion into his performances and choose a style that suits, I think he can go a long way. But for NOW, he is not among my favorites.

Have to add..that picture of Alex is cracking me up. Whenever I see it I just remember a scene from Friends where Joey was talking about a trick to use when you are trying to remember a line. He called it the "smell the fart" look! :lmao:
