Have to admit I was prepared to not enjoy Amber singing Barbra....but it was good, not the best of the night.

Since the finals began, the contestants have been secretly writing/co-writing and recording original songs in preparation for their album on a nearly daily basis (should they win or still receive a recording contract). Sometime near the end of the season, original songs will be performed by the then-remaining finalists. It is expected that the winner's coronation single will be a song that she had a hand in writing. Unlike ever before, the winner's debut album will be released soon after the finale, rather than many months later, to better capitalize on the potential of the television exposure and winning momentum. The winner will support their album by performing their own songs on the summer tour.

I think Amber made a smart choice with her Diva song. It was different from all the others, and she sang it well. I am not a big Amber fan, but give her a few years to mature and learn not to be so self involved, and she could have a great career. The way Jimmy and the Judges rave about her, I am sure someone will pick her up even if she does not make the top two.

Loved Kree and Candice, as always, however, neither if their best nights. Just goes to show how good they both are that they are still good when not at their best.

Angie was good, but is still not doing it for me. I think it is the way she smiles and plays with the camera. Just kind of off putting.

Poor Janelle. I think her time has come. She made such a poor song choice with the Dolly song, especially with the number of songs she had to choose from. It was an OK performance, but not for competition. DH said it was not the song to end a set with, but a fun breather for the performer to rest before the show stealer. Just wrong if she was trying to outshine others. And I agree that Jolene (or the one about the coat) would have been better choices. More well known, and great chances to emote.

My order for last night:

2. Kree
3. Angie
4. Janelle
5. Amber

I thought while both Kree and Candice had their moments, they weren't as good as they usually are. I really liked Angie's first performance and then thought the second was ok. I didn't know either of the songs that Janelle did, but thought she did well on both of them. Amber I just don't get at all. I'm definitely not hearing what the judges are.
