American Idol Experience...

Anyone been inside yet or auditioned? I know it's officially opening on the 14th, but with CM and AP previews I was just wondering.

I went through the audition process last week and it was lots of fun. Ended up performing in two shows...the regular one and the finale. If you enjoy singing, don't mind performing in front of lights and people (can be up to 1000 people in the theater) and want to devote several hours of your day @ DHS to doing it, it's worth it. The stage is unbelievable. The shows, themselves, only last 30 minutes or so. As far as quality of the performances, I guess it would vary from show to show depending on who auditions that day. Most of the people I heard were really very good (or at least really entertaining). If you are interested in auditioning during this testing period, just look for someone next to the "auditions today" sign near park opening time and I would guess you could walk in. If you get selected, your family gets VIP seating during the show. Hope this helps!

If I auditioned, would I... Oh I don't know how to put this.

I'm going to be the only adult in my party. I'm taking my two kids down there in March (dd6 and ds5) and when I was talking to a CM about it on the phone, she said someone would watch them, but I was just wondering about it, and I'd like to hear it from someone who was actually there.

Should I just forget the idea of auditioning, because if I can be in a show or two, what will I do with my kids? Push my double stroller up on stage with me? LOL

Tough call...The audition process, itself, was approx. 45 minutes. My dd10 was with me the entire time for that. If you are put into a show, you have to be there 70 minutes beforehand for vocal coaching/hair&makeup/stage run through. There were LOTS of CMs around, though, and all so friendly. I would guess that only the vocal coach time (approx 10-15 minutes) would be the completely without kids part. I guess your stage run through would be, too.

It was SOOO much fun, I'd say go for it. You can always do the audition and then feel out the CM's for their attitude toward keeping an eye on the kiddos. I found the other performers to be incredibly nice and friendly, too. Good luck and have fun!!

It's not just AP and CM previews. It's been in soft opening for a while now. Click here for my experience at one of the early finale shows. I'm NOT an Idol fan and only went to see it because I know someone who works the show, but I have to admit that I enjoyed it.

I would NEVER in a million years audition for this, but I cannot wait to see this attraction!

Out of curiousity, do they let you choose whatever song you want for the shows, or do they have a list? The audition is acappella, right? But are the songs in the show also? Or do they have a karaoke backup? A Band?

there's a list of songs to choose from.. i believe the magic number is 113, but i'm not going to count, I'll just type them all for you instead.
