Tomorrow we are having debates in american history and it is going to be amazing! My partner and I have brillant ideas and we can't wait!!! We are having a debate about the British Taxes and Acts after the French and Idan war ,but we a have a little bit of a proble some of the teams we could possibly go against would have a huge advantage against us so if you have good strong debate info that supports the British to "diss" the amerians over these Britsh taxes and acts that you probally would not see in the text book we would be so happy and i would not know how to repay you!!!! :D

The fact that running a war is costly is big. The British needed money to fund an army. They were expanding their empire at this time, and that takes cash. The Americans, and their huge resourse pile that is North America, had plenty to give. Hence, taxes.

Not entirely sure if that's entirely true, but it might win over a few hearts.

Exactly. Use retoric to your advantage. Speak clearly and speak like you believe what you're saying. It doesn't have to be totally...accurate. But it does have to get the basic point across. Public speaking is a talent of mine. if you need anymore help, I'd be glad to give you a few wording pointers.

That's where your Squirrelly argument comes in.

Squirrelly arguments are usually something that doesn't neccessarily make sense, but sounds good in your debate.

I usually bombard people with pointless, confusing, stupid information when I'm tired of arguing. It'll confuse someone so bad that they just cant counter it.

Just remember, you don't have to be right, you just have to prove that the other side is wrong. ;)

No problem.

I just gave an oral report. I'd also like to say that its not just how you speak, its how you walk, how you move, how your body language works for you. If you're speaking well, but you look timid, you're not going to be taken as seriously as someone who's appearing strong and confident, and speaking well.

I sit in the back of the room and it was my turn to go, I had little cards that I was going to pass around the room, once I got up to the front, but I saw that I really didn't have the attention of the room, and I wanted it. So I started speaking from the back, and kept speaking as I moved through the room, and around it, handing out the cards as I reached that part of my report. Once I got to the front, I began moving back and forth, walking around, not saying in one place for too long. It adds interest. Speaking from a place in the room, not normally spoken from made everyone turn around, look at me, and I knew I had their attention.

Also, try to make eye contact with a few people. it really drives a point home.

I have a speech due monday, and i just got some really good advice

thanks.

One last tip, and I promise to stop posting (lol!)

if you're shy, try starting the speech with your back to the audience. once you get comfortable, turn around. It'll be interesting, and really grab their attention.
