American Girl Questions..help please!

Is there a better way to search for them on ebay? I'm just wading through pages of clothes with a random doll here and there.

We bought a Target doll for dd as a trial. She's only 4 and thus far hasn't taken very good care of her dolls. If I can find a gently used AG doll for about the same price though, I'll go that route. Craigslist has been no good.

For the dolls - I would sort by price, highest to lowest. I think that would get the dolls to the "top of the list"

Yes, I will return the new one if I can't sell the used one I got. At first, that was going to be my plan right away....but I think I'd rather give dd the new one if I can pull it off (it's her gift from the big guy). My dd fell in love with Julie right away. I think this is why my niece decided she wanted Julie as well. I'm loving Julie's accessories, since that's what I grew up with:) At least I have a back up plan...but I do hope someone around here would be interested so I don't have to go through the trouble. Thanks!!

I agree.. Julie's accessories are groovy!!! She was my DD's Christmas gift a couple of years ago, and I have to control myself not to buy all that great 70s stuff. This year Julie has a banana seat bike with a white basket with flowers on it. My bike was just like it, but yellow! Unfortunately my daughter is much more interested in the new Rebecca doll than in getting anything for her Julie doll.

To the OP and others looking, keep an eye on childrens consigment stores for the dolls. A good one will only accept toys that are gently used.

How did youfind her for less than 60.00? I have been looking and can't find anything for less than what they are new
Michele

I literally took the steps that I did in the post and there she was!

Of course
I'm sure as the bidding war goes on she'll increase in price as will the other dolls but Usually there is a "buy now" option.

Good luck!

make sure you type in the words "american girl" "doll" and the name of the doll
AKA Kirsten, Samantha, Molly etc..

The word Doll is very important.

Do this all in the general search..

Then on the left when it lists categories that contain matches click "dolls"

I've had my American Girl since I was 8. I had been droolling over the American girls for months but had just happened to be in Target and saw their dolls. They were cheaper and I bought one with my own money less than 2 weeks before christmas. My mom and dad had bought me my own American Girl Doll and they decied to wait, and just buy clothes for her for me at christmas. needless to say, the target doll fell apart within weeks" (I live on a farm, that doll went everywhere with me.)

My american girl doll is now 11 years old and she's still in great condition. I did have to have her sent back and her redone about 3 years ago, but she is still in great shape. She was my original and I can't imagine my childhood without her.

Try doing -outfit and hopefully that will get rid of some of the clothes. It can be a lot to sort through because many sellers when only selling shoes or clothes or what have you, also say "to fit American Girl dolls" which then brings it up when you don't want that.

This thread reminds me that I have a brand new AG doll that I should get listed on ebay. Got her at the Benefit Sale for Madison children's museum and it was really at the end of DDs doll thing so I didn't end up giving it to her.

I'm of the original group to get an American Girl Doll. And yes, she's still in good condition. That is minus me cutting the knots out of her hair years ago. I'm all about the cost per use, so after 19 years my original Felicity has paid for her self over and over.

That and I still buy myself accessories and outfits. I dress manikins at work, it's nice to play with a normal size doll at home. I still change the outfit on a bi-weekly basis. :cutie:

I am not sure there are any dolls out there that rival the quality of AG but a friend recently bought some dolls from Avon and said they were nice quality and she was able to get 2 dolls, 2 outfits, and 2 matching outfits for her dds all for less than one AG doll. Maybe someone else on here will be able to tell you if the hair is good quality. Also, my dds first doll came from a thrift store. Cost $2 and then I purchased a new head and clothes for her. Total cost was around $30. Of course, this was nearly 10 years ago.

Is there some secret that having an older doll is better than a new one? I had some Julie's on my watch list on ebay, and just happened to look to see what they sold for. Now, I got my new Julie for $95, and she is still available at American Girl.com. Why is that that some of these used dolls are selling for more than that? One just sold for $96...no box, no book, no extras, plus the cost of shipping. What am I missing???? Are people just that willing to think they are getting a deal that they don't do some research first? Or are the older models worth more? There wasn't anything mentioned in the description about it being extra special. I saw this with a couple other AG dolls I was watching a while back. The used ones sold for more than I could have paid for the new one.:confused3

To the original poster. I wasn't sure about spending that much money either, so my daughter saved her money (for a long time) and bought the doll with her own money. She is almost 7. She has Julie and LOVES her. I think it meant even more because she earned the money herself to get her.
