Why would someone buy a Caroline doll on ebay when they could just get it for cheaper directly through americangirl.com? Just curious.

I've wondered the same thing myself. I guess some people must think everything is cheaper on ebay lol.

They could be buying from a country that AG doesn't ship to, if the seller is willing to ship internationally.

Some people don't do research before buying, some people live in countries that AG doesn't ship and some people may want a different shipping option than AG offers (AG shipping is really expensive and really slow).

International shipping.

That is the answer 99% of the time. People who use eBay tend to be savvy shoppers. Any consumer good slightly above U.S. retail is a bargain for a foreigner. Only the U.S., Japan and South Korea enjoy truly cheap, high quality consumer goods. We pay a fraction of what the rest of the world does for toys, electronics, furniture, cars, DVDs, etc.

Toys and the like are 20-30% cheaper in the U.S. than Canada, and, globally, Canada is still one of the cheaper consumer goods markets!

Maybe they had a discount code, or paid less than retail for an e-bay gift card, or built up a bunch of e-bay bucks that were about to expire, etc. In other words, maybe they got a better deal than you think they did.

I admit I've waited until the last minute to use my e-bay bucks and ended up spending more for something than I normally would because it was use 'em or lose 'em. My out of pocket cost was still good - but it wouldn't have looked that way to anyone else.

I've been wondering the same thing in regards to Ebay. I've noticed several things lately where you could buy it for less from the store than from a seller on Ebay. My guess was international shoppers also. Or people who do not want to use a credit card online or at all. You can pay with Paypal on Ebay.

The shipping for AG is like $16.95 on a doll, plus you likely pay tax, so even though the price is the same for the doll, they are probably saving a tiny bit. They also could have paypal funds built up, and not have a paypal debit card, and AG.com doesn't take paypal.
