American Girl Dolls, for what age?

I suggest the OP go to AGPNY & choose a doll with her child. If said child takes care of her toys she might be OK with an 18" doll at age 5. Personally, though, I'd choose a bitty baby for her.

The hair is the biggest problem with AG dolls. If you don't use a wire wig brush & mist the hair with water you end up with a brittle icky mess! We bought a dog brush with wire bristles & it's perfect for me. I like a brush with a larger handle but the AG brushes are better for smaller hands.

The OP can also keep an eye on ebay for a gently played with doll; that way she's not out big bucks for new & she can see how her child takes care of it. The holidays are coming & I bet there's gonna be lots of dolls listed.

Don't worry about any with a small x on their bottoms. It just means the doll was purchased at a benefit sale & can't be returned to American Girl for a refund or exchange.

Oh, I love AGP! I suggest a mini DIS meet at AGPNYC sometime before Christmas after the window displays are up. We could all have lunch together in the cafe, then maybe defect down the street to DS if it's still open for a little mouse laden atmosphere too. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to coordinate...

You know what made me super happy about the cafe? DD has a peanut allergy and we NEVER go out to eat (only Italian restaurants my dad supplies b/c he knows the cooks and what they buy) and of course we feel super safe in Disney. On the computer menu it said they should be able to accommodate the food allergy :thumbsup2

OP I suggest reading a few of the "Meet (name of AG Doll)" with your daughter. You should be able to check them out at the library. Then she will be able to decide which girl she might want.

They were incredibly accommodating and attentive when we celebrated DD8's belated birthday in Feb. It'd be awesome if she could have the cake. Definitely worth the extra for the celebration pckg IMO as long as there aren't a lot of people in your group dining. Here are a few food pics from our visit ---
