My daughter is asking for her first American Girl doll for her birthday. Where is the best place to purchase one of these dolls? Can they be found in stores?

I just tried Americangirl.com BUT DO NOT TRY THIS!!!!! It came up as an adult only site!!!! I have a copy of a catalog here if you want one. If you want PM me and I can send one to you.

So far, the only place I know of in the Philly area is to order over the Internet or from their catalog. However, I just saw that the Hallmark store in the mall is going to carry "American Girl things." (Not sure what that means, though.)

We ordered in October or November two years ago & we had it in plenty of time.

I don't know what happened for Tony-NJ, but this URL will take you to the first page of products.

If you go back to the Home page, you'll be able to ask for a catalog - but be aware that not every catalog has every product! We usually shop on-line, although DD loves it when the catalog comes. She reads it at night before falling asleep. ;)

It is really easy to order over the internet. You can't buy the dolls except at the store in downtown Chicago, unless you order them via phone or internet. They are wonderful dolls. There are so many different outfits to customize to your daughter's interests. My DD has three. She saved her money for one of them. We bought the others for Christmas or birthdays.

I've ordered from them about 3 times and have never had a problem. They've been good.

Even though I live in the Chicago area, I ordered DGD's American Girl doll over the internet plus an extra outfit.

I ordered on a Saturday, and it was delivered UPS that following Tuesday.

She brought a catalog with her last weekend and we had so much fun going through it and "picking out" at least 75 different things she "just has to have!" LOL

I also noticed they sell them new on EBAY. I was thinking about that perhaps. I knew I could order from their web site, I just thought that I could get a better deal or save on shipping if I went somewhere else. I have also never seen them in person and wanted to see them for myself.

Tony-NJ, thanks but I did request a catalog over the internet from their WEB site.

. . . have any of you gotten any AG Mini stuff for your daughters?

The first year they came out with it, my DD asked for a room & the whole family got things for it. She absolutely loves it & despite the cost, we thought it was worth it because she played with it so often.

The reason I asked, though, is that before a year was out the electric stopped working. I wondered if it was a fluke or if anyone else had the same problem. She absolutely drools over that stuff, but I'm hesitant to let anyone get her more if it isn't going to work.

Thanks!

did you contact the company? They usually stand behind their products. Give them a call and see.

I love the American Girls! I've collected them since I was 9 years old and own 5 of the dolls. In fact, I'm expecting a package from them soon as mom has ordered my birthday presents. :) As others have said, you can only get the dolls through americangirl.com or through the catalogue. The dolls that appear on ebay are sold by individual people, not the company itself.

Yes, piratemates, call them about the electric stuff not working! They are *excellent* at costumer service! They've replaced things for free for me on many occassions!

Just gotta say that we really like their products and service. I think I read that Mattel bought them out or something. I hope the service and quality of the product doesn't change!

The stuff ar Hallmark is very nice. Party goods, stationary, book marks, stickers stamps, a charm bracelet with the dolls, Christmas ornaments etc. DD really liked seeing it all!

I don't follow the auctions religiously but from what I have seen on ebay you won't save much money. I have even seen people more than retail for a doll that was still currently available through Pleasant Company. So be sure to do your research and check the seller's feedback if you decide to go the ebay route.

We haven't had too much experience with the traditional AG dolls (stepdaughter had one at her mom's house that we bought a few things for) but we have purchased quite a few of the Bitty Baby items. I have been impressed with their quality and their customer service as well.

Good luck!

I work at a Hallmark store and we have the American Girl product. It is a VERY good seller! We even had the newest doll, Kaya, to give away. Ha, ha, it's the only time that I wish I DIDN'T work at the store so I could enter!! Check your local Hallmark store for nice American Girl gifts.:)
