American Girl Doll - Exchange

My daughter has a just like you doll. Now that she is starting to read more and more, she is interested in getting a historical doll. Since I think she would enjoy the historical a lot more than the just like me doll, I thought about exchanging her doll for a new one. I called American Girl customer service and the person I spoke with was super nice. I told her we are looking at exhchanging our doll and getting a historical doll so my daughter can read the books that go along with the doll. The customer service rep said "of course, that isn't a problem at all, just bring the doll into the store if you live by one or mail it in if you don't, and we will exchange it for you."

Has anyone ever done this? She made it seem so simple. I am just nervous that I will get to the store and the cashier will look at me like I am nuts and tell me that I had to do the exchange within 30 days or purchase or something...
 
I'm not sure the rep understood you. Did you tell her you've owned the doll for a while and are now tired of it? AG has a great exchange/return policy but I don't think it extends to exchanging dolls when you are tired of one style. That's a pretty bad business model. LOL
Maybe call back and double check before going into the store?
 
I'm assuming and think she is also that it is new and not played with? Do you not have the receipt? If it is new then yes I can see no problem because they are the only ones who sell them so new in box would equal an even exchange no problem.

I am quite sure you cannot exchange an old doll for a new doll. I am sure the CS rep thought you has just gotten the doll(perhaps as a gift) and wanted to exchange it for a historical doll.
