My daughter got Rebecca for Christmas and I had read on her people suggesting picking up clothes at Michaels, AC Moore, etc to help save money. Well, she got a ton from AC Moore and one pair of black leggings seems to have dyed poor Rebecca's legs. It's not an all over dye job, but more like dark marks, almost like scratches or like it has drawn marker lines on it. We have tried water/soap, baking soda, and a magic eraser (some of the things we read about online). My daughter is beside herself and demanding we send her to the American Girl hospital. From the description on their website, they'd probably have to replace her legs and I'd really rather not spend all that! Anyone have any magic solutions? Please?! And if you have any non American Girl clothes, don't use the dark ones!

send her off to the hospital to get fixed, they should be able to fix her.

Oh, I am so sorry that happened to your DD's doll.:sad2:

I don't think we have ever had anything that didn't come off with a baking soda paste...

I'm not sure if I can link to another board, so google AG Playthings and ask there-- they are the American Girl experts!

Best of luck-

If all else fails how about fingernail polish remover?? I would try it on a little spot just to see. I hope it works...Ive never tried this so Im not sure if it will work or hurt the doll in anyway.

but it worked on ink for us after several attempts at other remedies, i googled and found it, to get ink off, which i think would be the same as what you need to get off, we put benzoyl peroxide acne cream on and put the doll under a direct light bulb, lolol, but it worked! it had to sit for a long time, if you google it i am sure you can find it, but it saved a trip to the doll hospital.
good luck and hopefully you the simpler baking soda will work, but if all else fails, try this.

Alcohol Wipes clean pen marks off of desks. Maybe it will work on dolls legs.

I've heard good things about this method, too. My DD made a cast out of some scrap fabric for her doll and then proceeded to sign it. Of course it was with a perm. marker and it bled through. I need to try this myself!

I would try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. That works on just about everything and I bet it wouldn't damage the doll either like some of the other chemicals might.

Seconding (or thirding) the OXY. It works best if it's put in the sun, so put her in a window or other sunny spot. Replace the oxy daily. It may take a few days. It only took an afternoon to get ballpoint pen off our Kaya's face.

OXY is the way to go. Yes it may take a few days. And watch her in the sun. But Oxy works wonders on AG dolls.

i started wiht the sun and it was taking too long, so right under the lamp worked much faster, lol. older daughter walked in and found the doll on the counter under a lamp and looked at me like i was nuts, lol.

I suggest Mr Clean Magic Erasers (the white sponges). Get it really wet and rub gently for several minutes. The hairspray or alcohol suggestion sounds good. After that, if she isn't better, send her to the dolly hospital. Good luck!

Hairspray contains alcohol which is why it works. So, hairspray or alcohol might help. They both remove ink pen and sharpie on most surfaces.

This is good to know since my DD10 got permanent marker on my countertops this weekend.:scared1:

This is nice to know. I was just getting ready to send Bitty Baby to the hospital for the same thing (except they are pen marks on the face). My daughter just got it for Christmas, so it's relatively new.
