Can I buy one online and will they deliver to Canada. How much does it cost extra?? Anyone done this before?? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the world of american girl! its an expensive habit but very gratifying. Yes you can get it shipped to Canada and it is relatively inexpensive. One of the girls at work did it last christmas and it didn't cost too much

As the mom of an AG addict...YES you can..... (we have 8 dolls and counting...).
It costs $10 over and above the US shipping, and for a $100 order the duty/taxes are about $15 on it.
If you watch for free shipping (sign up to get their emails or go to www.agplaythings.com message board), then you will get the free US shipping and only pay the $10 extra to Canada.

I looked into it and they ship USPS, which is great cuz UPS often dings you with a huge brokerage fee. I'm thinking about ordering one for my daughter for XMAS. She would be over the moon!!! Not that I want to hijack, but do your girls really play with them? I don't mind spending the money, but it bugs me when toys sit and collect dust. Thanks for the free shipping tip, Lollipop's Mom!

Lollipop's Mom is correct. The shipping charge is minimal. I ordered some extremely cheap activity books, story books, and doll clothes for my 2 DDs last Christmas. I subscribe to AG online, and I was privy to a shipping code that really helped. You may also want to wander over to the Budget boards as I sometimes find discount codes there too.

My DDs are 9 and 12. They both got their dolls 4 years ago when they were 5 and 8, and we travelled to New York City. My DD9 still plays regularly with her doll. My DD12 would only play on occasion with her little sister. But she treasures that doll even though she doesn't always play with it. She changes the doll's clothes every week, and displays it. When we head to LA every summer, we would stop by the AG store at the Grove and buy clothes for the dolls. I love the quality of the dolls and the clothes are really well made.

ahhh....mmmm...uh am I missing something?

Heehee... when I read the first post, I was thinking the same thing! It wasn't until I read the other the responses that I realized that the OP was refering to the doll, not an actual human:rotfl2:

My friend just ordered and received one for her daughter and she said with all the shipping/duty charges the total was around $250:scared1:
That includes the doll an extra outfit and some other extra accessory.

Thats what I get for having a mind in the gutter and no girls of my own to know what an american girl is...lol. It all makes so much sense now.

We are AG addicted in our house. My DD has 6 dolls and counting. I order online 4x a year usually and try to do it when there is free shipping so there is only an additional $10 charge for shipping. My order in July was pretty big but they split it into 3 boxes so when it arrived I had to pay $5 handling fee plus GST on each box. We also loved hitting The Grove this year and seeing the AG store.

My daughter is 12 and loves her dolls (but shhhhhh dont tell anyone, because its not 'cool' to like dolls anymore).
She doesn't 'play' with them in the sense of dolls talking to one another - she makes videos with them! If you go to youtube and put in american girl, you will find tons of tweens that all make vids and contests with their dolls. My daughter is in a huge online group of tweens that share vids and photos and do fashion shows and stuff. She loves it, and I love that she loves it. I will keep buying this stuff as long as she wants, as it makes me happy to know my 12 yr old is not out on a street corner smoking pot or getting pregnant, but at home making doll videos!

That's great! My DD is 12 too and as long as she likes them I'll keep buying them :D

Umm $250!! What does this doll do? Why are they so popular?

It's funny, but I was going to post some questions about ordering AG dolls today. This thread just popped up!

For those who have ordered, is it delivered by UPS? I ordered a bunch of stuff from an ebay seller of Disney merch a few months ago and about two weeks after it all arrived we got a letter stating we had to pay $25.oo for duty! Will this happen with the AG stuff?

I plan to order a lot for Christmas this year as we have several girls to buy for ( this is a pre planned out gift for both Christmas and birthdays which just happen to fall at the end of December as well.) I want to save what I can on the shipping so I will check out the above suggestions. How often do they usually offer the free shipping? Also, how long did does it take for an order to arrive? I thought I should order by the begining of October to be safe for Christmas.

TIA, Suz
