I was just reading in the UOG that to use your Amex in WDW you have to sign an agreement with Amex before arrival.

Does anyone know anything about this? I never heard of this before!

Forget it! It is to get cash from an ATM using your Amex!

We were just there and used our Amex card almost exclusively.....no problems!

The "UOG" is the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World - a tour book. It is a great guide for someone planning a trip.

I used my Amex for our first trip to disney and didn't have a problem. Even got a neat little pin for using it at check in. I did not let Amex know of our trip beforehand.
Now another one of my cards (Associates~now is CapOne) did stop my charging privelages in Orlando once, b/c we had used the CC there before and all of these charges started popping up and my CC company thought it was stolen. After being humilated in line at IOA and a call to the company we got it straigtened out. It was kind of reassuring to know that they were watching out for me, though. So I always let my CC company know before we go anywhere to expect charges from out of town to prevent any possible problems.

HayGan, can you let me know where in the Guide we say that? I use my AmEx card all the time in WDW, and have never had to do anything special.

Thanks!

Never had a problem in four years of using Amex to charge Disney visits. Is there perhaps some detail on the service this step is required for? Certainly not general usage.

Page 327 from the 2005 Guide (very first part of the Bare Necessities section) it states :

"Most Visa and MasterCards are accepted at ATM's in Disney World. To use an American Express card, you must sign an agreement with American Express before your trip."

I stated in my second post (which was right after my first), that I see it was meant in order to withdraw cash from an ATM. I was confused by this as I remember when my dad and I took a trip in the mid 80's that MasterCards (I think) were not accepted at some locations in WDW.

While I understand now the meaning. I would suggest a wording change that more specifically outlines that it is to receive cash at an ATM.

"In order to withdraw cash from an ATM using an American Express card, you must first sign an agreement with American Express prior to your trip."
