My students surprised me with an American Express Gift Card to use on my next trip. Has anyone ever used one of these at Disney? Did you run into any problems having it accepted?

Thanks!

You shouldn't have a problem using it any where just be sure if it is for $40 and the purhcase is $44 that you pay the $4 first and then use the card because it will not go through for $44.

Or you need to keep up with how much you have spent.

It acts exactly like a credit card... The only thing that you need to know is your balance. If you dont spend it all at once, you will have a balance that has to be used to the penny. For instance... if you received a $50 gift card and you spend something for $30, and you try and use it in the next store for another $30, you would have to tell them just charge 20 to the card and pay the difference of the 10.
Again because it acts like a credit card, they do not know what your balance is going to be and will just charge the amount in its entirity.. if its over it will not go thru (51.00 will be denied if you dont tell them its a $50 gift card) they cant go over the amount that the card is.

Thanks. I'll just make sure I keep up with the amount spent and the balance remaining. This was such an awesome treat from a terrific group of kids and parents!

Well, what I usually do with these is this.

I charge everything to my room (of course, this only works if you're staying on property) and when it's time to settle up the night before, I apply any/all Amex gift cards to the room. This way they're all used up and I don't have to worry about keeping track of how much is left on them.

Yes, keep track of the balance, as if the total is greater then the balance on the card, it will come back declined. So keep track of the balance to the penny. But remember, unlike other gift cards, the receipt will not tell you your balance after the sale so you will have to do the math yourself.

This can be used anywheres that take credit cards, so you should have no problem at all using this.

DisneyNutt made a very good suggestion. But if your not staying at a resort, maybe trade it in for Disney Dollars or a Disney Gift card (if you would like to spend it all at the parks of course!). This can be done at any Disney Store or a Guest Relations when you get to the parks.

My husband got one as a gift, too. We used it on our Jan. trip--no problems. As the other posters have said, try to keep track of the balance so you don't get a purchase refused.
