Think that is what it is called. Has anyone used this card in DLP? My sil asked about this in the travel agents and they said DLP is not set up for it. I thought I read someone on here had used it. We don't have a credit cards, so thats not an option.

Maureen

Edited to say - It's called the American Express travellers cheque card.

I've never used one but I thought the idea of it was the same as travellers cheques except it is in the form of a pre payment card.

DLRP took travellers cheques so I can't see why they don't take this instead.

According to Amex the card is accepted anywhere that takes Amex. Disney does.

Here is some more info http://www.americanexpress.com/uk/tcc/index.shtml

HLH.

My DD has been touring Europe and went to DLP on Sat. We had gotten her a Visa Travel Card from AAA and it has worked everywhere. You upload it at AAA and can use it just like an ATM Card or Credit Card. If you do get this card make sure you have enough money on it because we had to go to AAA twice to give her more funds (these get put on the card right away). You can do it though the computer but that takes a couple of days.

That's good to know as when I had company Amex card it was less excepted than Visa/Mastercard :)

I hear what your saying. More shops are coming round to accepting Amex though. In New York it is accepted practically everywhere, even small bakeries.

Amex used to be the official credit card for Disney and they used to do the Service Magique deal. Then the sponsorship went to Visa.

According to the guidebooks for France that I've been reading, this is still the case.

Hi there,

I used the American Express Travellers Cheque Card last year and am again this year and I had no problems with it, in fact, I used it for every meal and every shop and it so took the hassle out of signing travellers cheques every time.

I just made sure that all my money was pre loaded onto it so that I didn't have to worry.

Never had a problem with it and actually thank god for it now! :thumbsup2

Thank you for al the replies. Good to hear that pixiepower04 has used it, so I will be getting 1 of these.

Can I just clarify something, is it used just like a credit/debit card with the exception it has to have money on it beforehand?

Hi there,

Yes, you need to have your money already pre-loaded onto it and then you just use it as you would a debit card, if the money isn't there you can't use it!

There are some other things you can do with it like put more money on or something but I just fill it up before I go and know that I can't over spend.:lmao:

Although I have no issue with the card itself the only disadvantage to getting it is that Thomas Cook can't price match for currency as Amex set the exchange rate but the difference is not that much!

This card def sounds good to me, but. SIL who is coming on trip with us spoke to her friend who works at the exchange desk in the travel agants and she told her it cannot be used in DLP(second person to tell her). I have told sil about pixiepower04 using it, but she says her friend won't sell her 1 as she is going to DLP, but will give her a good rate on travellers cheques.

Absolute rubbish, I used it for all of my trip last year and am going next week and have loaded it up again. Who's the travel agent because they sound like they don't know what they are talking about?

I live in Dundee so it's not a Scottish thing and I went to Thomas Cook, if your SIL's friend isn't at Thomas Cook I would go to them.

I went to a different exchange place to ask if they did the same thing and they said it was a Thomas Cook thing, I don't know how true this is but seriously, either the Travel Agent doesn't know anything about it or they are trying to get her to have a different rate!

Seriously though, if it's not Thomas Cook go to them first, there is no loyalty for your money and I usually go where the rate is best but because they work so well without any problems I always go back to Thomas Cook.

Also, it's not up to your SIL's friend to determine who gets the card and who doesn't and quite frankly it's none of her business. You can upload I don't know how many different types of currency and it's just a straight swap from Travellers Cheques to the card, you still have to sign it like a debit card. I don't think she can legally stop you from getting one and I would challenge it!

You can always get the phone mumber of the Travel Agent for me and I will quite happily phone them and tell them!!

Hi Paula, I think it is First Choice/travel choice she works for. I have told my sil that I will be going to Thomas Cook to get a card and she can do what she wants. If I had not read that someone had used it I would have believed the travel agents and went for cheques. Thanks.

Maureen

Hi Maureen,

Please let me know how you get on with Thomas Cook and if you tell them about First Choice see what their reaction is.

Also, when are you going? I am going from 11th to the 16th.

To resurrect an old thread.

DH got one of these this time and we found it really useful. Cost £20 to issue but then put money on with no commision and exchange rate often better than banks. Done through internet.
Used at several places including Planet Hollywood, Anettes, Walts, Auberge, shops in Dis Village, Shops at Val d'Europe and used to get cash out at Explorers. There was transaction charge when getting cash from ATM but no where else.

Still have cash left on it for next holiday so useful saving tool as small amounts can be loaded onto card.

Thanks for info about this in first place.
