American Airlines flight change

posting in case this helps someone. American changed our April flight from a 9:30 arrival to a midnight arrival. They changed the flight with no charge. I don’t like the new times as much but happy that it was easy to change. I’d keep an eye on their emails

Generally all major carrier will allow you to change flights if there's a major schedule change.

There's so much scary language about change fees after booking that sometimes people don't realize there are actually times when the airline will let you change for free.

The whole airfare process is way more complicated than it needs to be sometimes!

It's good to hear that they emailed you well in advance, rather than leave it to you to find out on your own.

If the airline changes your flight times by more than a couple of hours or shortens your connection time too much for your liking then feel free to hand pick alternate flights that would work better for you and quietly ask for a re-change. The airline should not charge you even if the flights you picked had a higher fare that day.

Also if you don't like any of their other flight times, let's say you had a non-stop flight but all others that day connect, you can simply request a refund. I don't believe it has to change by several hours. I've had flights change 30 mins and was able to switch to another flight.
