I know that Delta is famous for changing flight times as the days get closer. I would like to know how well American does. Are they another carrier that frequently changes the flight times as the days draw closer to the actual flight?

If so, generally speaking, when do most changes seem to occur and how are they with changing flights if you don't like the new one they have assigned to you?

Thanks!

Expect most mainline US carriers to tweak schedules one per quarter.

Some may do more drastic route changes but that doesn't happen as frequently.

Delta has been integrating its schedule with Northwest's (as in cutting duplicate flights, etc.) resulting in even more changes than usual over the past several months. American isn't doing that and, in my experience, hasn't been horrible about changing schedules. I've flown 30-40 American flights in the last year and can only remember one time when there was a significant schedule change, FWIW.

We flew American exclusively for years and maybe experienced a major flight time change maybe once or twice in 15 years. Slight changes (10-20 minutes) occured once in awhile. I am sad that we won't be using American much anymore but they have cut most nonstop flights (except to Chicago and Dallas) from our airport.

American only makes quarterly flight time changes/adjustments and then they don't tweak the flight schedule for another 3 months. Many flights stay the same when they do tweak the schedule. Of course, mechanical issues or weather can always come in to play, but AA has been excellent at holding to their schedules..... IMO.

The last schedule adjustment was in mid-November (my upcoming flights did not change at all). The next one is mid-February.

We love flying AA, mainly due to this very reason. We did try out Airtran for our December trip, but I had to check my itinerary each day because they were always changing times and seats on us (this was even after we paid the extra $ to have assigned seating). They would also change our flight schedule and not even give us an email that they had done it (another reason why I would check daily). After our December trip, we decided that we are going to stick with AA from here on out. We have never experienced any sort of schedule change (not to say that it won't happen) when using AA. My DH and I just became AAdvatage members so we can earn points to get free upgrades or even a free flight.
