American Airlines - Changed their policy to Sept 30!

American's current policy only covers travel up to May 30. Has anybody been able to get a refund on travel AFTER that tade?

No. I actually spoke with them today, and the response was that they are only offering 'free' changes through May 31.....keeping checking.

The situation is ever evolving so keep checking. It's been about every 2 weeks that the policy is being updated as companies see how the growth ( and/or reduction ) of the virus continues.

For everyone's benefit, here's AAL's new policy:



You do NOT get a refund, but you will receive full credit for any tickets covered by this policy toward future travel.

OTOH -- keep in mind that if THEY cancel the flight, I believe they are required to REFUND your full fare.

So I'm going to just sit on my June reservations until the last moment in case they cancel our flights for some reason. If they do, I'll hopefully get a refund.

My Thai wife and 3 children have a LAX to Thailand trip for 3 weeks on American. Given that the refund would be over $3,000, we would prefer a refund. So, we will try to wait until early June to see if the flight is canceled. A credit would be acceptable if we could get tickets with the same itinerary for July, 2021 for the same price. As I doubt if American would agree to that, I’ll go with my first option.

Agree with your strategy, and I hope others will read this thread and realize that there IS an option to the credit for future travel.

Some of these airlines may not survive, so a credit would be worthless if they fold. Also, we have no way of knowing what their pricing will be like a year from now. So it makes sense to wait as long as possible before making this decision.
