as much as i loved the way southwest airlines took excellent care of my ecv, i'm thinking for our next trip of going with one of the dme participating airlines to reduce my handling of our luggage on the way home.

has anyone used american with an ecv, power w/c, etc.? any problems?

We used AA going to Puerto Rico. They had the wheelchair waiting for us when we got off the plane. It was not electric. It was a lightweight manuel. They stored with the luggage. My husband used America West for Las Vegas and did not have any problems. It was an electric wheelchair. America West is part of Northwest Airlines I beleive. We have always flown AA with the exception of a few trips to Las Vegas. I do not think you will have any problems. We live in Texas so AA is the biggest airline here.

America West and US Airways have merged, so they are the same airline.
Northwest and America West are not connected/partners.

We have not traveled with American because they don't fly non-stop out of Minneapolis, so I can't give any personal response.

I have a friend who works for American Airlines in baggage in Orlando. I assure you he takes the best of care in everything he does. He told me lots of people do gate check them too. Im not sure how it works with DME.

thanks!

my SIL just had an awful christmastime experience with AA and her luggage, but i'm thinking i'm still going to have to go with them. every airline has occasional problems. i just wanted to know if there was a major pattern making it one to avoid. when i posted about airlines which historically change flight times on the transportation board, a few popped out as ones to avoid. thanks

sorry--duplicate post again - i guess i'm having trouble with this....

I remember now when my husband and sons went to Las Vegas it was the US airways website I checked for their arrival times at DFW. They did a good job also.I would go with AA or America West for flying with your wheelchair. AA called me yesterday for our upcoming trip to see if my husband would need any extra assistance.
