America West-What do the different Zones on Boarding pass mean??

I just printed our boarding passes at home for our flight tomorrow. On each pass, it says a zone on it. We almost all have different zones on ours.

i am zone 2, my wife is zone 3, both sons is zone 5, daughters are zone 3 and 2.

what does it all mean?/

now i just take this with me and hand it to them, correct?? i have never printed from home before.

The zone is the order in which you are allowed to board the aircraft. US Airways uses "zone" numbers. American uses "group" numbers. Most airlines now use some sort of number, but they call them by different names.

Typically, an airline will first allow First Class passengers and those who have made arrangements for pre-boarding. Sometimes they'll then call very elite frequent flyers. Then they'll call for group or zone 1 (other elite frequent flyers). Then they'll call other groups sequentially. This allow the airline to give preference to their best customers and then to load the other passengers from back to front.

It sounds like your family is spread throughout the aircraft. If you get to the airport early, you may be able to change some of your seat assignments so you can have more seats together. In that case, you'll get net boarding passes with new zone numbers.

i thought initially it had to do with boarding, but we are all seated together, not spread out. we are in row 19 a,b,c,d,e,f......all across the row. why would we board at different times if we are sitting next to each other?? I dont want to board alone and have my kids board without me later.

This flight boards window seats then middle seats, then aisle seats.

Sometimes they will let the whole family board together with the lowest number zone, or you don't have to ask anybody if all of you board with the highest number zone (less desirable). If you have to board separately, those boarding first should carry the largest suitcases, still one apiece.

we fly amer west all the time...home town airline....

they WILL let you all board on the lowest zone.

as another said...its by window, middle, aisle.....
