Amber Alert - Somer Thompson N FL.....UPDATE

She looked pretty overwhelmed with grief on the Today Show. You know how when you're upset you can't talk? You literally choke, trying to get a word out? That's how she looked. Her eyes looked bloodshot. The only thing I thought was strange was the sheriff was sitting beside her, yet maintaining a distance. At the time I thought maybe they can't put their arm around a parent because then they'll (law enforcement) have a hard time not crying too.

At the 6 pm press conference the sheriff said that the body is most likely Somer Thompson.

The mother doesn't seem suspect to me at all and I really do find it sad that people are judging her grief (or lack there of.)

Wasn't she at work, she called home and the kids told her she didn't make it home? I dont understand why anyone would think she was a part of this if she was at work all day? and if she wasn't why would the cops waste their time interviewing sex offenders?

Even mothers of DEAD children cannot get a break on the DIS - DISGUSTING!
I'm sorry that it seems like we are judging the mom. In all honesty, that is not my intention and like I stated before, I sincerly hope it wasn't the mother.

I guess I just feel that the dry crying is a warning sign and we all know that just because someone says that they were somewhere doesn't mean they actually were or that they don't know more than they're saying. However, I don't know anymore details of this case than what was presented in the thread.

Again, I don't mean to not be supportive of the family and again, I do hope the parents are not involved at all.

EDIT: I didn't see her on the Today show. It is possible the first video I saw was just her dealing with the shock. Again, I hope the parents aren't involved.

It was already stated that she was at work when the child disappeared - I am 99% positive the cops already checked into that. Most moms that are involved in their childs death are directly involved, as in they did it themselves.

I think maybe this mom had been crying for 2 days straight and told herself I HAVE to get infront of that camera and compose myself as much as I can because my child maybe looking at a TV right now and see me.

Good to know that she was actually at work.

And you're correct about maintaing composure for the child who could possibly be watching. Regardless of Somer's mother (since she seems cleared), dry criers are always going to be suspect in the police's eyes.

Praying for Somer.

For what its worth, I'm on a medication and its near impossible for me to cry now. I get all the other feelings, but just can't get the tears to flow. It can be frustrating. Sometimes people don't get just how upset you are about something UNTIL they see tears.

Great, so now this makes me a suspect if anything ever happens? Sigh......

I dont think people realize how exhausting it is to cry. I am willing to bet this mom has not slept since her daughter went missing and probably has cried for hours...maybe she physically just cannot cry. She is probably past exhaustion mentally and physically.

FWIW--I'm remembering vaguely that her eyes were puffy and to me her sinuses seemed very full. Tears appeared to be welling up--but they were not free flowing.

I can't say she was a dry crier though--she looked like she was out of tears.

the mom had nothing to do with this imo and she was heart wrenching on the footage I saw,

On the Dis it does. And who knows what this woman could be prescribed. They could have her on a host of drugs to help her stay calm enough to function, in order to help her sleep etc. We certainly don't know.

Take a look at Diena Thompson and compare to a Casey Anthony or even Melinda Duckett and you'll see a huge difference.

The mother looked devastated on Today. I dont think she did anything. I think she is trying to survive the horror that now lives inside her head. :guilty:

About jumping to conclusions about the parent(s):

I think in a way many of us hope the Mom was involved. That way we can say "this couldn't happen to MY child." When it's just some random stranger, the victim could have been any of our children.

I would rather believe it is easier for a stranger to do what he/she did to this poor child than to think her mothers face was the last she saw. I know statistically it is usually the parent but my heart doesn't allow me to jump there first.

Perhaps this will be a shame on me but I saw the mom on tv this morning and even though she acted hysterical, there were very, very few tears. Hoping that I'm wrong.

I did too, you never know anymore :confused3 with all the Casey Anthony's and Susan Smith's out there.

Poor little girl. :sad1:

How heartbreaking, to think that someone could do that to a child. I don't believe the mom was involved, I saw her on TV and I don't think its fair to judge her by those 5 minutes. I have no idea what she is going through and how she is coping with it all. I hope none of us will ever know just how a mother should act when her child goes missing, I can't even imagine.

I do not hope that the mom is involved, not at all. I felt so terrible for her this morning, she looked devastated, all I said is that you never know anymore.

I know, I don't think she had anything to do with it, but with the way the world is today I can't say I would be surprised if she did. Its nothing personal against her, its just that sadly sometimes the mother is the one who did something.

I agree! :thumbsup2
