Amber Alert in Colorado - Jessica Ridgeway Murder - They got the monster

That would scare the bejeebies out of me and I would never want to let my children outside alone again. Being that close to something this horrible.:sad1:

I hope they are able to find her safe and she can be reunited with her family. I can't even begin to imagine the horror they are living through right now. It makes me sick to my stomach to think of this happening.

Me too.

I was thinking of the little girl and the poster who lived near where her backpack was found. I have never really given much thought to how these things affect the community as a whole. The families in that area will probably never be the same.

I'm wondering if there is more to this story than what is being released because I knew nothing of this until I read it here. It is not being screamed across the news the way most children missing stories are. Usually it is headline news everywhere and this has not been mentioned. To find the Story on Fox news you have to go to the US news section and almost look for it. I have heard no mention on TV. This all puzzles me considering the attention these stories in the past have received.

Does anyone else have any idea why it isn't bigger news? Considering how the news love to sensationalize and use these rare but sad stories.

goofy are there any updates?

For the pp that mentioned not knowing about it, I did see it was on front page of Yahoo yesterday.

Yeah, I remember hearing about this on the radio on my way back home from school (go to college less than an hour north of Denver) and seeing the announcement everywhere when I was driving down there on Saturday. I really hope they find her and soon.

I don't want this to sound neg I hope to god she is alive but while I realize why they are taking extreme measures to find her wouldn't you think whoever has her will be pressured into killing and leaving behind etc? I'm sure they are paying attention to what's happening and know they are searching cars so why would they take that risk? I'm praying to god she's ok but odds aren't looking good. That or she is already out of Colorado
There was (or still is, I'm pretty sure) out of Tucson, AZ about a missing 6 year old who was taken from her bedroom back in April. The news barely made it outside of AZ.

Anyways, I hope they find Jessica sooner rather than later!! The odds are stacked against her though. :sad1: Whoever has her needs to speak out!

I just read tht the parents are separated and there is a custody dispute... I hope that she is safe ..".

It breaks my heart to see those Amber alerts. May that poor child be found safe and real soon!

I read that parents are spilt but there isn't a custody dispute, dad was just in court for child support stuff. The parents still get along and he's not considered a suspect

It was covered by Good Morning America today. Don't know how much more national it can get than that.

A news show of some sort was on in our house all weekend and I didn't hear it mentioned, not like when some kids are missing.

If you go to Fox news it isn't on the first page, on CNN it isn't a main article you have to go down to the smaller print. It isn't a big story on Yahoo either, in fact I didn't even see it on Yahoo.

Good morning america is a talk show it isn't a news show.

I'm just saying it isn't getting very much national attention which is odd because they usually jump on a missing kid story like crazy and have it front and center.

For the pp that mentioned not knowing about it, I did see it was on front page of Yahoo yesterday.

Our development is surrounded on two sides by thousands of acres of open space. To the west of us and about a block from where the backpack was found, is several miles of open space that stretches to the foothills. There is a reservoir in that open space. If the helicopters are any indication, they are searching the reservoir and surrounding areas.

The news has reported that the FBI and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies have been brought in for their expertise in searching large open areas.

Funny they also mention that these agencies are also working with the father's family in Missouri. While the police said in the beginning that the father was not a suspect, there is more and more mention of the custody dispute.

At this point, after finding her backpack on the edge of miles of fields, I hope and pray it is a custody dispute and she is safe with her father.

If anybody wants to see the vast amount of open space law enforcement is working with, put "Marshall mesa trailhead Colorado" in google earth. That is the reservoir. If yo go directly east, you will see a smaller pond. Across the street and just south is the street they found the backpack.

Oh. I am actually sorry to hear this... Custody dispute would have been a best case scenario.....at this point...

New information:

FOX31 has obtained exclusive information about Ridgeways father, Jeremiah Bryant, who is involved in a now-public custody dispute regarding his missing daughter.

According to court documents, Bryant is currently on felony probation.

He is still not a person of interest. He is accounted for in Missouri.

Please, parents, I beg you - make sure your school has contact information for you and an emergency number to call. While the school did have correct information for Jessica, many parents do not give new phone numbers or addresses to the school. If we have to contact you because your child gets hurt, ill, or isn't in school, we need to have your information.

While it is no one's fault that it wasn't discovered that Jessica was missing until 4:00 last Friday, valuble time was lost. Schools need the information so we can make sure your child is okay. Call the school if your child is ill before 9 am. Call the school if you have a new number or address. Give the school your email. We are not trying to invade your privacy, we need to make sure your child is safe and accounted for. You would be shocked and ill to find out how many parents will give false info so that the school cannot contact you.

Goofy, we are almost neighbors!

This is true, but only really matters if your school district has a policy to call you in the daytime, as soon as it's noticed. Our elementary school (per the school district policy) is only required to make the automated phone call home that night stating that your child was not in school. When we get those phone calls it's usually after 6pm...crazy I know, I've complained, but so far this is still their policy. :confused3

For the local CO people on this thread....I was in Castle Rock today and stopped in at the Jack In The Box. I was impressed to see the flyer on their door. I love the fact that the public is actually printing these posters off their own computers and distributing them. I pray she is found safe and soon.

Schools don't always call. I remember my son had skipped school for 4 days, I finally called the school for something and then they informed me he had not been to school for 4 days. Needless to say I was very upset and they had no answer why they did not let me know. I hope they find this little girl very soon.

front page of abcnews.com, cbsnews.com, nbcnews.com, msnbc.com, cnn.com, on Nancy Grace's site, covered in people.com, huffpost, nydailynews.com, and many, many more.

Is that enough news coverage for you to make it a legitimate kidnapping? I fail to see how the amount of coverage determines the legitimacy of the kidnapping.

There are kidnappings that never go national. In fact, there was an 11 year old kidnapped in Cody, Wyoming on Monday. Textbook scenario: man approaches group of girls asking for help to locate his lab puppy. One girl got in his van.

The girl has been recovered, however, her name is being withheld as she is a victim of sexual assault.

In fact, the Wyoming case is being investigated to see if it has any connection to the Jessica Ridgeway kidnapping.
