Florida Issues Amber Alert for 8-Year-Old Boy
Friday, February 24, 2006

GREENACRES, Fla. — An Amber Alert was issued Friday for an 8-year-old autistic boy who authorities believe was kidnapped.

Jared McGuire was abducted by a white male with gray or dark hair and a goatee, authorities said. The man was wearing a collared long-sleeved, multicolored flannel shirt, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a black cap.

Police say the child was forced into a dirty white mid-90s Chevrolet van with a sliding passenger door. The Florida tag number was not known.

Jared was last seen in the area of Forest Hill Boulevard and Jog Road.

He is white, 4 feet 8 inches tall, weights 65 pounds and has light brown hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a gray Old Navy T-shirt with red lettering, blue jean shorts and no shoes.

Anyone with information should call 911 or 561-688-3375.

Stuff like this scares me to death! There was a little girl here who was thought to be abducted several months ago who is autistic. Turned out that she just wandered off and was playing by a creek. She heard people calling her name, but she didn't know them, so she didn't answer.

And you know, I often worry about my daughter more than my son because I guess I felt like a little girl would be more likely to be abducted than a little boy - don't know why? :confused3 Just so sad though. Hope they find him and he's okay.

I don't have kids yet, but I can just imagine how terrifying it must be for the parent :worried:

The worst thing is, most kids (myself included when I was younger) just have no sense of danger. Actually, most of us have that 'invincible' feeling regardless of age!

I can only hope that this turns out OK :worried: Definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm gonna be the first to say it. Who saw this child being forced into a van, a child or an adult? It just seems too convienent, middle aged white male with goatee and a dirty white van. Hoping wherever he is, he is found soon and safe.

Unfortunately, it looks like they have found this little boys body in a lake by his home. They believe he might havewandered there and drowned accidentally. I'm not sure how to post the link. I got it off of Websleuths. :(

I saw the same thing. I so hope he just slipped and drowned and that foul play wasn't involved. Either way is horrible and tragic!

:( So sad - at least they don't think that there was foul play (not saying that the parents should feel better because there wasn't, but there would have been other emotions to deal with if there was).

Being a Mom of a child in the Autism Spectrum....my heart just breaks. I will go hug my child now who has been aggravating me all morning. :worried:

Oh man, I just read the link...
I don't understand why the confusion with the police, tho?
They apparently believed he had been "forced" into the van,
but CNN reported:
"People came forward to say they had seen a boy matching Jared's description at nearby shopping plaza getting into a white van
with a white male."

It seems like mistaken identity by good people wanting to help.
But, there's a big difference between people simply seeing
a boy getting into a van, and someone saying he was "forced."
Heck, it could've been the other boy's father or uncle!

I feel so bad for Jared and his family through this, tho.
Praying for them ~

Scary story, and sad, too. I wonder who was with him earlier in the day who provided this story to the police. I imagine the parents wouldn't let a severely autistic boy drift home from school by himself ... he surely must've been with someone who provided the police with this story ...
