Amazon selling book for pedophiles

I've emailed them and I sincerely hope everyone else who is as disgusted as I am contacts them somehow so they know just how many people they are affecting.

I am an avid reader and literature lover. I am very much against censorship but this is completely unacceptable on any level.

Do you REALLY think they don't know? Trust me. They know. And talking to CS reps doesn't help a thing. Just makes the CS reps more tired.

You can't have it both ways. If you are pro-censoring THIS item, then you are pro-censoring. You're not "very much against censorship" any longer.

Yep - a couple years ago, they removed a NAMBLA magazine after enough people complained.

It likely was actually talking literally about illegal things, not just talking about about about things. If that makes any sense LOL.

I'm sure that this uproar will cause someone in editorial to read the book, see if it's actually illegal or just talking philosophy, and then they'll go back to their stated, longtime stance on things, and go from there.

And if they pull it everyone will pat themselves on the back, even though, in all likelihood, y'all didn't change a thing OTHER than getting someone to actually read the book. (which, um, seems a bit against what people say they want, which is interesting)

And if they do change their stance on it...have fun with the slippery slope!

I couldn't actually find a "contact us" spot. I have no idea how I missed it but I did! I chalk it up to being extremely exhausted from a long day.

I searched "how to email amazon" and got it that way.

Thank you both for your responses..:goodvibes

But Amazon also sells books about women having sex with donkeys and apes. Or how to build bombs, or how to kill people.

Where has your outrage been this whole time? Oh that's right, people are only outraged when a talking head tells you to be.

Women having sex with animals is not hurting a child. And there are other safeguards about building bombs, not many, but you still have to buy the stuff. This book is promoting hurting children. And no one told me to be outraged. I first saw the story on a liberal internet news sources, MSNBC.

Honestly, doesn't matter much to me how I'm categorized when it comes to this type of content. This is morally wrong and now that I know, I have a moral responsibility to do something about it. There's not much I can do, but I can decide not to shop at the website. THAT is within my power.

Call me naive, but I never realized amazon sold things of this nature nor some of the other things mentioned. But like I said, now that I know, I have to draw a moral line. As someone who has been greatly affected by this very topic, I don't know that I could just ignore it. It's my belief that this is well outside the realm of freedom of speech. I believe that we have a moral obligation to send a clear message that behavior WILL NOT be accepted in ANY form. Like I said, I can't do much, but this I can do.

And if it was a book explaining how to throw your children off of a bridge and not get caught, that would be okay? And it would still be okay to yell fire in a theater? Just because you want to say something doesn't mean you have the right. There are laws and morals and standards of every community. Hopefully the Amazon community will stand up and show Amazon this is not acceptable. But if they want to keep it on their site I hope they go out of business. They will not get another dime from me as long as they have this available.

Bravo to Amazon!
No one has to read or purchase this book, or the Anarchist's cookbook, or any other book they do not want. That's the great thing about America!

Obviously I do not support the stance of the author of this book but fully support Amazon's stance on this. Censorship is a slippery slope and I do NOT want any store telling me what is appropriate.

As a victim of child sexual abuse, I hope you'll understand my disgust and heartbreak at your "Bravo to Amazon" statement.

And, no, I do NOT think they have the right to sell this horrific trash.

I buy a LOT from Amazon, and I have just stopped (and will be contacting them to tell them so). They may not care, but I sure do.

Dear Amazon: Just because you *can* doesn't mean you *should*.

Legal or not, no more of my money will go to support a company that thinks offering this 'guide' is a good idea.

I think we all have our "slippery slopes" we're willing to take a ride on.. With all due respect, I have read quite a few of your posts on various threads and you have made such decisions yourself - just different slippery slopes..:goodvibes

I totally agree!!!

Thank you so much OP for bringing this to my attention. I have added myself to the masses who have posted comments on their website, who will not be purchasing another item from their website so long as this "guide" is being sold on it, and who will do my best to spread the word to others.

I think we have to draw the line with abusing children. I'm not for censorship. . .but I do believe child pornography is a crime, and I think a book giving pointers on how to engage in sex with children crosses that line.

I would hope that the powers that be would investigate anybody that buys that book, just as if they browsed a child pornography site. I can't imagine that anybody would actually publish that book, let alone anybody would feel emboldened enough to buy it.

Amazon is free to do whatever they want. And I am free to not do business with them, which I won't.

Is there a reason you feel the need to defend child rape? Because whether or not you feel any form of censorship is wrong, there is something called social tacit agreements. . .we as a society do not tolerate hate speech. I'm not sure if such a thing exists. . .but I'm pretty sure if somebody wrote a book entitled "Raping and Torturing Black People for Dummies" or "How to Kill and Sodomize Gays" there would be some social ramifications. . . and most likely it would also carry some legal consequences. I don't see this as being any different.

No, but it can hurt an animal.

There are safeguards about molesting children. You have to kidnap a child.

This is by far one of the most thoughtless posts I've seen on the DIS and I've seen many.

Thousands upon thousands of children that are molested and forever violated usually happens with someone they know not some kidnapper in the middle of the night.

What does this even mean? I don't get it.:confused3

I was responding to jjarman's argument that the Anarchist Cookbook is OK to sell because you have to actually have access to materials in order to follow the directions in the book to create a bomb to kill a lot of people. I really don't see a difference. You want to molest a child, you have to have access to a child. If you want to make a bomb, you have to have access to the materials. Both are wrong. So either people should be upset at both being sold, or neither. I don't understand why nobody seemed to be up in arms about them selling domestic terrorist training material.

I totally agree, this book is a guide on how to rape a child, its sickening that it even exists and its more sickening that somebody made a choice to sell it.

No, you don't and if you think that is the only way children are molested then you know absolutely nothing about the subject. More children are molested by those they know and trust than kids are kidnapped.

Well, children can't vote. And children can't buy things from Amazon. And neither will I.

I'm sorry if I came off as thoughtless, The point I was trying to make was the Anarchist Cookbook and similar domestic terrorist materials is as harmful and dangerous as a guide to child molestation.

But you are forgetting that you do NOT need to kidnap a kid to molest them. Parents, family and friends can all have access to a child without having to kidnap them to do so.
