Amazon Prime sale

Amazon is having a sale for $79 tomorrow only for a 1-yr subscription for new members only. We would like to gift this to DH's parents. Does anyone know it that will be possible & how to go about coordinating that? I hate to have to tell them about it before Christmas, but I guess we would if we had to.

I've been on my friends prime for several years so I can use the free shipping. Since it's not actually my membership I should still be able to get the sale price tomorrow right?

$79 has been the best deal they've had in awhile.

I think, if you are on your friends old prime plan before the changes last August, they will lose it if you remove your name from the account. From what I understand you are all grandfathered in the old prime if you leave everything as is. If you remove a member or try to change a member they will be switched to the new household plan.

If someone is currently an 'invited guest' on someone else's Prime, and they want their own Prime account (so they get the streaming benefits, etc) then they can 'upgrade' to their own Prime account for $79 today. BUT, you can't change back, so be aware of that! There is no longer an option for an invited guest. You can have only 1 other adult as part of your Prime membership, and you must share credit card info. That limits who most people will share with.

Existing prime accounts CAN keep their current invited guests if you don't change anything. But if you have 4 invited guests currently, and remove one or more, you CANNOT replace them with someone else.

FYI, this sale does NOT apply to giving Prime as a gift. Giving a gift of Prime is still $99.

I guess you could get around it by telling the person now & just using your own card to pay. But, kind of takes the surprise out of it.

Think Amazon is trying to get older users onto the new plan which removes the ability to add other friends/family to the account for prime shipping and stuff...
